Although the Old Covenant had become obsolete in light of the New, the world didn’t know it until the Temple was destroyed. They continued to offer sacrifice even though Christ’s sacrifice had superceded it.

He was in John 2:21, but in Mat 24 and Luke 21 He is talking about the Jerusalem Temple.

No! He was talking to his disciple and He said “this” generation. A generation equals fourty years.

The first resurrection happens when we dye, are judged, and enter into heaven.

Christ said His Kingdom is not of this world. (John 18:36) Only a handfull of Christians believed in an earthly reign of Christ up until 100 years ago.

No, I’m still waiting for my own first resurrection, because I haven’t died yet. When Christ rose from the dead the righteous souls in Sheol were resurrected and went to heaven. And when we die we experience the first resurrection if we are bound for heaven.

As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, (the) God of Isaac, and (the) God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled." (Mark 12:26-27)

Besides, what is wrong with the second resurrection? It means Jesus has returned.

The second resurection was mad for the wicked,and the great white judgement seat of Christ blessed are those who were in the 1st resurection for which the second death has no power over them. I did read rev.11 and saw wrer he rules there.Is the book in order? Alot of people are pre and post and it can be confusing. In chapter 13 he speaks of the beast coming out of the sea,in 14 the 144thousand,now they are going through the tribulation ?and they are those of Gods elect,special first fruits.but he hides them away to protect them,to keep them safe from the beast.So your purgotory is for those who need the cleaning up? I thought Christ washed us clean in he blood.Why should anyone be afraid of death if they were washed clean? We are all sinners but Jesus redeemed us he paid the price and took my place therefore why would I go to Purgatory? If you already believe Satan’s lie, then you are lost and are in need of help, and in need of God’s merciful intervention along with the ability to cooperate with whatever grace He sends you to get you out of your hopeless situation.

But how would the lost know some go to church and think there ok and some stay home and read,what I’m trying to get at how does anyone realy know that what they beleive is true? You really should just trust (against doubt) that Jesus died for you and speaks truth through His Catholic Church…the one He personally instituted. After all, He told His first Apostles “He who hears you, hears me.” And the Apostles weren’t from any self-created religion. They were from the Church established by Christ…they never broke away from the early Church’s apostolic doctrines and tradition, which we are called to keep.

at any rate, I wanted to touch on purgatory …
from what I understand … Jesus’ Blood and ultimate Sacrifice reconciled us back to God … without that, we’d have had no way to even be considered able to enter heaven at some point.
When we sin, confession/reconciliation cleans up our souls again (as long as we’re honestly sorry and resolve to try with all that’s in us not to do that sin again), however … payment for that sin (even though it’s FORGIVEN) must be made … God is JUST and His Justice calls for payment … so even though the sin is forgiven, we must make good for it … purgatory does this … ‘nothing imperfect may enter into Heaven’ … purgatory purifies and makes us perfect for eternity in Heaven

As far as the TRUTH goes … I studied for a long long time and had many conversations with many different ministers, priests, rabi’s, etc. … so even though i was a cradle catholic, I’m really more of a “convert” after more than 20 yrs of searching

I think the nutshell version is this:
Jesus started a Church when He was here … He started it with 12 men. He taught them, He prayed with and for them. He made one the leader - (Simon) Peter. For almost 1500 years things were the same; one fold, one leader … and for about 1100 or so years … one Bible. (The Bible was first compiled in about the year 400 when the Roman Emperor, Constantine publicly condoned Christianity. There was only one Christianity at the time; which painstakingly compiled the books into the Bible … we know them today as the Roman Catholic Church.)

Around 1500, Martin Luther (a catholic monk), thought that the Church had been wrong in some things for all that time (Particularly about ‘working your way to heaven’ -as HE phrased it- by doing things for others and penance, which he, unfortunately, took out of context.), so he (and a group of folks; about a third) left the Church, changed the Bible (removed some of the books) to support their beliefs and ‘protested’ (Hence … Protestants). (I can’t help but shudder when I think of the warnings the Bible gives for anyone changing it in any way!!!) It was discovered since, that one of the strongest reasons Luthor went against the Pope and left the True Church was to marry a nun! Not many folks know this!
In all fairness, another reason Luther was angry was that rich folks began ‘buying’ indulgences. Not that the Church was ‘selling’ them, some rich gave large donations and thought this ensured they were ‘covered’. Unfortunately an indulgence isn’t valid or binding unless all the usual conditions are met (confession, praying for the Pope, Communion etc.). So their money bought them nothing. I’m not quite sure why Luther blamed the Pope for this and the Church itself. As many others have left the Church, I believe it had more to do with sexuality than anything else.
Anyway, since then, there has been a growing number of different Protestant denominations throughout the world; all from that one break only 500 years ago. But there is still only one Roman Catholic religion, with the Mass as it was in the days of the catacombs. Divide and conquer??

Satan knows us very well. He also knows it’s profitable to him if he tells 99% truth, to get in his 1% of lies. I don’t believe the folks that split from the Church were bad … obviously, their Faith was weak and they were searching. Satan saw his “in” and grabbed it. I believe these folks honestly believed that they were doing as God wished. This is not meant to discredit the Protestants in any way. However, we DO pray that they reunite to the Catholic Church so that they may have the fullness of TRUTH that is only found in Catholicism.
So … if Luther didn’t break away (but I’m sure someone else would have eventually, cuz satan would be pushing for it) … then every Christian would be Catholic …

Think about this though … the apostles were mostly married, yes … but didn’t Jesus call them from their families? He did not tell them to take their wives and families with them, did He? Scripture also says that anyone that leaves his home and family to serve the Lord will not go unrewarded etc. …
I feel badly for the protestant ministers. They must have a horrible time of splitting their time up between their congregations and family. Is not the husband to put the family first in all things? Is not the minister/priest to make his ‘family’/congregation first in all things? … How does a man do this?? You cannot make TWO things FIRST, right? So, I believe this is why Paul said if you must marry, go ahead … but if you can stay away from it, you’re better off … (if you’ll be preaching). If there’s ever a pope that allows priests to marry and women to become priests, he’ll be of the UNholy trinity …
p.s. … Bishop Sheen hopefully will be made a saint … I know there’s a movement to get it off the ground anyway. He was wonderful … I have many of his videos and I remember watching him on tv in the 50’s with my parents … yep, I’m that old

JL: When Christ returns, Satan will be destroyed, in the sense he will have no power. He will only exist, after being thrown into the lake of fire, where he will be in torment day and night forever. Destroyed does not mean, out of existence. Substance abuse can destroy one’s life to the point the person is only existing, yet still aware. A cup can be destroyed when broken, yet it is not out of existence. The broken cup is no longer of use, the use for which it was created, it is destroyed.

I don’t recall offhand about Luke’s wife … I’ll have to research it more I guess, but to my knowledge … families and wives were left behind.

The recent and past scandals with priests, I think are best summed up by saying that most of those guys weren’t/aren’t REAL priests to begin with. Of course women ‘preach’ to families etc. … but women weren’t even permitted in the temples with the men … there was an outside area where women would go … it was unheard of then for a woman to have ‘significance’ in mens areas … and yes, my mother (as well as my father) taught me much, including a firm foundation in the Faith

Sure in Fox’s book of Martyers,it’s one of the best books i’ve ever read.It will give you the complete discription of how all the saints died. Theres one in particular i realy feel will make one think,this Christain was to be burned at the stake and his friend said he was afraid,and he was thinking of giving up the whole idea of burning at the stake.The other Christain said i’ll tell you what when i get there and you are watching,if the fire isnt too bad i’ll raise up my right hand and you will know not to be afraid and that it’s not as bad as we thought, and he agreed. The next day they were all brought to the stake area and the Christain went first. They tied his hands behind him and he was bare foot,they started the fire and he began to get real hot and was starting to burn a little, his friend was watching and saw his hair was on fire and the flames were all around him.At that pointthe Christains friend thought he proberly was dead by now and he was making plans to decant, just then the Christains right hand went up! as he looked on his eyes were full of tears,yes tears of everlasting joy,then all of a sudden up went the left hand BOTH HANDS WERE UP IN THE AIR AND ALL THAT SAW PRAISED GOD FOR THEY KNEW THE LORD WAS SURELY THERE THAT DAY AND ALL WENT HOME AS BRAVE SHEEPS FOLLOWING THEIR SHEPHERD.This is a true story as best to my knowledge love of Christ nancy

ok … when I did a search for that book, it all centered around protestantism … so, (no offense) if I’m wanting to enhance my Catholic Faith, I’d want to stick with Catholic doctrine and Tradition
Perhaps that’s why I was unfamiliar with it? At any rate, I believe we are all called to be saintly, perhaps even saints (as best we can with the help of God) … but I’ve never heard of any other denomination ‘making’ a saint. The Church has stringent rules and ceremony for making saints that is not taken lightly by any means. Catholicism is the only denomination that I am aware of that has saints in glass coffins that have not decayed. In fact, most recently, St. Pio … Padré Pio, had the stigmata, could read hearts and bi locate among other gifts … he died in 1968 I believe and is now on display, incorrupt.
Many stories are wonderful to build up the Faith, but for absolutes, my preference stays with the Bible, Tradition and the teaching of the Catholic Church being led by Jesus with the Holy Spirit’s protective Eye watching over the Truth

p.s. … as an aside … if this book was protestant as it said and told of Luke’s wife, I’m confused. If Luke walked with Jesus, he and his wife obviously died way before protestantism came into being … so I find myself scratching my head over how he or she might be considered an early protestant martyr … Protestantism wasn’t born till Luther left the Catholic Church just before 1500.

You know I feel sorry for people who have to cling to their religion instead of their faith in Almighty God of All creation.The Mormons wont read anything other then mormon things and movies you sound alot like them Oh I konw some and theie nice people but so afraid of the rest of the world and realy dont trust anyone’s unless their of their belief.It’s sad because that’s what segregates humankind from each other.I’m open to come here to see how you beleive and i know how the Mormons believe,alot alike,set up almost the same,with a head man that runs every congregation just like the catholic church dose.I can read and talk to anyone and will never loose my salvation or my beliefs unless i fall short and do wrong on my own.I love all people and I’m not under the fear of anyone and the more I think of it the more it sounds so peacefull and more of God then all those running to and fro scared and under the hand of man instead of under the hand of God. Gee God has been so good to me,and I have alot of friends that are Baptist Catholic,Methodist,Mormon,Pentecostal,even a family I worked for that is from Pakistan,and some Jewish people from Massachusetts who are realy nice people.I gave a bible to some Chineese people years ago that were our friends and owned a restaurant it was in Chineese, she was very greatfull at least she said she was, I have one belief,one God,I was baptised,made first communion,conformation,rebaptised baptist and now I am just a child of God my Church is with Christ for GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN ME THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD. You know I feel sorry for people who have to cling to their religion instead of their faith in Almighty God of All creation.The Mormons wont read anything other then mormon things and movies you sound alot like them Oh I konw some and theie nice people but so afraid of the rest of the world and realy dont trust anyone’s unless their of their belief.It’s sad because that’s what segregates humankind from each other.I’m open to come here to see how you beleive and i know how the Mormons believe,alot alike,set up almost the same,with a head man that runs every congregation just like the catholic church dose.I can read and talk to anyone and will never loose my salvation or my beliefs unless i fall short and do wrong on my own.I love all people and I’m not under the fear of anyone and the more I think of it the more it sounds so peacefull and more of God then all those running to and fro scared and under the hand of man instead of under the hand of God. Gee God has been so good to me,and I have alot of friends that are Baptist Catholic,Methodist,Mormon,Pentecostal,even a family I worked for that is from Pakistan,and some Jewish people from Massachusetts who are realy nice people.I gave a bible to some Chineese people years ago that were our friends and owned a restaurant it was in Chineese, she was very greatfull at least she said she was, I have one belief,one God,I was baptised,made first communion,conformation,rebaptised baptist and now I am just a child of God my Church is with Christ for GREATER IS HE THAT IS IN ME THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD. I can say most of what you have said here as well and in general, have no problem with it.
I would like to clarify for you that I do not cling to religion … however, I will always hold fast to the Truth, which is Jesus, 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity
I just believe that the Catholic Church is what Jesus brought down from Heaven for the following reasons:
Catholicism uses the Bible, history, doctrine and Tradition “T”…
Catholicism has not removed anything from the Bible …
It provides the Sacraments instituted by Jesus on earth …
It has unbroken Apostolic succession from the 1st century …
I believe it has the WHOLE TRUTH … I guess that’s the easiest way to put it without going into each point
But please don’t feel sorry for me … I am grateful that I can meet Jesus daily at Mass in Holy Communion (well I could if I wasn’t disabled that is) and I feel badly that after Luther broke from Catholicism so many other splits occurred after that and all that left, also left the Sacraments … that’s what breaks my heart, cuz the Sacraments give us SO much strength and grace to get through this life … with what’s coming up, we’re going to need them more than ever …
I have a habit of praying for anyone that’s touched my life in any way … all here are included as well

Sure in Fox’s book of Martyers,it’s one of the best books i’ve ever read.It will give you the complete discription of how all the saints died. Theres one in particular i realy feel will make one think,this Christain was to be burned at the stake and his friend said he was afraid,and he was thinking of giving up the whole idea of burning at the stake.The other Christain said i’ll tell you what when i get there and you are watching,if the fire isnt too bad i’ll raise up my right hand and you will know not to be afraid and that it’s not as bad as we thought, and he agreed. The next day they were all brought to the stake area and the Christain went first. They tied his hands behind him and he was bare foot,they started the fire and he began to get real hot and was starting to burn a little, his friend was watching and saw his hair was on fire and the flames were all around him.At that pointthe Christains friend thought he proberly was dead by now and he was making plans to decant, just then the Christains right hand went up! as he looked on his eyes were full of tears,yes tears of everlasting joy,then all of a sudden up went the left hand BOTH HANDS WERE UP IN THE AIR AND ALL THAT SAW PRAISED GOD FOR THEY KNEW THE LORD WAS SURELY THERE THAT DAY AND ALL WENT HOME AS BRAVE SHEEPS FOLLOWING THEIR SHEPHERD.This is a true story as best to my knowledge love of Christ nancy

How and where did Fox(e) get all the information for his book especially for the apostles and their wives? I see no documentation of sources that he used to compile his book.

I do not believe authors who do not document their sources so that I can check them out for myself to see if what they are saying is true. If there aren’t any sources, it could just be made up, because the author had a grudge against someone or some organization.

What persons seem to forget is that the Protestants persecuted and killed Catholics also. Capital punishment for heresy was the norm.

If it was a Protestant government, then they killed Catholics. All was done in the name of God, of course.

God is omniscient. He knows all things. He sees the past, present, and future all at the same time, and at all times. He is not limited by time like we are limited by time on earth. He lives in eternity where there is no time.

Who did God desire to be saved?

1 Timothy 2:3-7 “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6** who gave Himself a ransom for all**, to be testified in due time, 7 for which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I am speaking the truth in Christ and not lying—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.”

God wants all persons to be saved. But not all men are saved.

Before He created the world, He looked down the corridor of time into the future so to speak, and saw who was not saved on Judgment Day.

Those who were not saved on Judgment Day, He did not predestine to eternal life. Those who He saw who were in the state of sanctifying grace on Judgment Day; these He predestined to eternal life.

Which persons had sanctifying grace on/in their souls at their deaths?

Acts 10:34-35 “Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”

Those who feared Him (loved and obeyed Him) and did righteous (good) works were accepted by Him. These were the persons who were saved on Judgment Day. Their names are found written in the Book of Life on Judgment Day. These persons had sanctifying grace on/in their souls when they died.

Their own free will choices determined whether they were saved or not. He wanted all persons to be saved but some chose to disobey him and so they were not saved.

Yes you are right,i went to a site yesterday and it gave a list of all the Catholic’s and Protestants who were burned, hung,crushed,then disembowled,pregnant woman etc, One was Hnery 5111 one was Bloody Mary and at that time Catholic and Protestants all suffered people on both sides didn’t want to mix church and state it wasn’t just a religous battle. Yu know people were killed back in Jesus day before he died and they didn’t have a Catholic church they had other beliefs Moses is with God and he wasn’t Catholic etc. Your not the first ones to beleive in God or a Messiah.
