What if you can't receive absolution?

When going to confession, would you mention the fact that you didn’t receive absolution the last few times? Does it even make sense to consider to go? What can you do if you can’t start again with a clean slate? I feel like getting ever dirtier ( I know it sounds ridiculous). It seems as a Catholic, without confession, you have a serious problem. I feel going to mass becomes harder and I begin to drop Sunday mass sometimes. I mean, with everything I have on my record, one more Sunday doesn’t quite make a difference, right? I know that is not a useful way thinking about it, but still…Why should I care about one more sin? This begins to affect other aspects of my life, too - not only Sunday obligation. What can I do?

Is there a serious sin that you are not willing to end? That is the only reason I can fathom for “not receiving absolution”,

If that is the case, the time has come to let go of that sin. End it. Turn toward Mercy.

Sure it is a serious sin. I guess it’s always a sin in the end. I can’t end it. It’s no use.

It’s still worth confessing the other sins and still worth going to mass even without the sacrament. It doesn’t sound ridiculous getting dirtier, that’s your conscience talking.
I think you need to talk to your priest about this other sin. There has to be a way. Nothing can ever force you to sin, you chose it, you can chose not too. I am so sorry you are in this situation. I’ll pray for you.

Thanks for your kind words. What use is confessing the other sins if you don’t receive absolution? I know you need to confess all sins you are aware of.

Christ made us a promise, and Christ does not lie.

We will never be tempted in a way that sin is the only choice. There is always the choice to avoid sin or to repent and turn away from that sin.

This is what you need the priest or a priest for. I don’t know if you’d not received absolution fro the whole confession or just the ones you aren’t sorry for ie the sin you keep on doing and have no intention of trying to stop… that big one? But the other’s like missing Sunday mass, you feel sorry for that? won’t do it again? if the answer to those questions is yes… then you are contrite and if you are truly sorry and will try your level best not to do it again, then you should received absolution. But yes I don’t know if a priest would give you absolution for some things and others not. I see your point, there isn’t much point in going to confession if you aren’t sorry and you aren’t going to try your absolute hardest not to sin again, with God’s help and grace. Yes we all confess every sin we are aware of, of course. So you would of course say you hadn’t received absolution for your BIG sin and then say your little sins, then say you are sorry for them informally or the act of contrition or both. If you aren’t sorry… then I don’t know. and if you don’t intend to stop,… also don’t know. But you can’t leave out things cos that’s another sin. Can’t you tell the priest your BIG sin and say you want to want to stop it, but can’t, can he advise you. That’s the best I can think of. But if you don’t even want to want to stop… then well that’s scary stuff. Lock yourself in a room without the temptation til it passes or run away and join the circus 😉 … seriously get the priests help. Go to a retreat and pray it out, take a year or two out and get it sorted out, enter a monastery, whatever it takes, nothing else matters. Your soul is at stake. I am not kidding. I am praying though.

Guess I need some more time to sort this out.
You can’t change your life just like that. On the one hand, you want to change something, you feel like going to confession would be a great start. On the other, you know it will not have a lasting effect. But from the past, I remember the feeling after I went to confession: It’s fantastic, I guess you all know that. It would be great to feel this way again, without this idea of ever more things accumulating. I really long for that.

This is a conversation between you and your Priest and perhaps a counsellor.?

We can’t know your sin you can’t end. We don’t know if you try to and keep falling back into it, we dont know if you just want to deliberately keep sinning, if there are circumstances preventing you ending this sin.

There are so many variables. But the fact you have asked this question tells me it’s on your mind and you might be in need of professional advice.

Don’t let anything keep you from God and worship in Mass, regardless of other issues you have going on.

You are in my prayers

We cannot change just like that, we pray for graces to help us on the road.

But remember , we are all sinners, even Holy Father Pope Francis is in Confession regularily. What hope have we then got of finally never sinning again !

Do not rely on your feelings.

When we are forgiven, that has an eternal effect. Those sins stay forgiven. We resolve to amend our life.

We might sin again, but, that does not negate our forgiveness. We start over again anew each time.

Having read back over some of your other threads, I pray that you can speak to a priest about a Radical Sanation.

Thank you all! Sorry for coming up with the same stuff time and again on various threads.
Just venting.

We might be called home before we sin again, we might never again commit mortal sin, God set a goal that is attainable “be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect”. Yes, should we fail and repent, He forgives and we get to start over.

We might, we might not, this is for God to know. We must be realistic and say we are all sinners.

OP in your now closed thread you are getting the same advice. Please reread it.

Pastoral care of you and your family should be paramount.

Are you saying that th priest didn’t believe you repentant and therefore refused to absolve you?

Yes. Thanks to all of you. I would be required to not have marital relations with my wife (who is not my wife in the eyes of the church), like sleep in a separate room. This for the time being. You can see how it will not work. We have children and would be very open to more. It’s ridiculous. I am not a saint, but I love my wife. No priest can relate to that during confession. They just tell you what the rules are. They are not married, they should not have children.

While your priest may not be married or have children, they have family and friends and have had care of many, many families. I don’t require my doctor to have had breast cancer before I trust him to treat me.

Make an appointment, talk specifically about a Radical Sanation.

Here are links to a couple of Diocese instructions:

http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/vcs/Documents/Radical Sanation (Instructions).pdf

https://www.dolr.org/sites/default/files/documents/chancery-radical-sanation.pdf

Your Diocese has a similar form for the process.

(Not to mention that there are married priests with children, two in my little town!)

it’s actually not ridiculous. if you love your wife, then the best thing is not to be putting her soul in jeopardy as well until you get your situation resolved. Like you said yourself, it’s only for the time being.
and just because a priest is celibate, don’t mean he doesn’t have the same struggles and temptations as everyone else.
and the church doen’st just make arbritrary “rules” just for the fun of is, there is always a good reason
