Is that** really **what this is all about…REVENGE? We HAD to do this When the NO was enforced, NOW YOU HAVE to do this when the TLM is enforced. What is this???Why is this???
Of course I cannot speak for every poster here, but for me it is not about revenge at all. The Holy Father has made known that the “TLM” is loved by our Lord. The Holy Father has also made it known that he would like to see this form utilized more.
Whenever this is brought up in conversation here it seems that someone will make comments along the lines of “no one wants it”, or “no one will atend it”, that sort of thing. Thus the Poll.
As far as I am concerned, I will just go to mass…not to criticize it or find fault in others or the priest, BUT to worship. You DON’T NEED anything but the Eucharist to FEEL reverent. That is a state of mind. If you go to mass with a feeling of “ha ha, I’m going to the TLM (or NO)”, then, I am sorry and I’ll pray for you.
Just go with the feeling of “being in our Lord’s presence and worship”. That is all that really matters.
This has always been my opinion too. Of course different people find different things to be helpful. Including the EF more broadly will only enhance this.
Does anyone actually feel that if the Priest doesn’t hold his fingers the right way, or leave out a prayer here or there, or stand or kneel, or etc… that will cause US not to go to heaven? I really don’t think MY Lord will judge us that way? Please , SOMEONE, answer this question for me?
There are those people who are overly scrupulous and worried that an invalid form might inadvertently effect them. Of course this is not the case. If a priest, either willfully or not, fails to properly perform the duties of the mass, the sin (if there is one) is on him and not on those in the pew.
However, if there be someone “in the pews” who is knowledgable and sees a blatent error, it is their duty to bring it to the attention of the priest, and if necessary higher up, so as to prevent further abuse of the mass.
All this really makes me think of the “Widow’s mite” in the Bible.
The rich gave a great deal to the church and bragged about it, but the widow, who only had very little" gave all that she had. God looked more lovingly on her. If she thought, "Well, I don’t have enough, so I’ll just complain about not having enough and not give…(Well, If I don’t hear Latin or kneel, then I just complain too and cause confusion for the whole church) HUMMMMM
Is that what being a Christian is all about?
I hope you don’t feel that this is what I am doing. Just complaining -
I have always tried to preach a consiliatory message re the OF and EF.
These two forms of Valid Rites should compliment each other instead of causing such contention.
If this poll has shown anything it seems that it shows there is little for anyone to be afraid of. Consistantly 80+% either would make a point of attending or, like yourself, don’t care so long as it is a valid mass.
To those who worry that an EF mass would be empty, a quick look at the numbers shows the opposite. Less than 20% would actively avoid the EF, while around 40% would make a point of attending. If anything, it appears that the EF would be more crowded, not less.
