Being a reader I tend to look at things from the standpoint of storytelling. Stories that uplift or show a humanity we can all strive for. The sex, the violence, the profanity are just the results of a world-view that is dark, negative and pessimistic.
Which perhaps is why some people would rather watch these shows on Netflix, without ads.
I gave up TV years ago, and it was a good move all around. It’s hard to imagine how liberating it is till one does it. If I really want to watch sometime like a documentary, most of those things can be found on DVD at the library or online.
As someone who knows a Hollywood script editor, the content has to be approved before it gets the green light for production. Hollywood, for the most part, is amoral or immoral. Reading the Hollywood trade publications, it’s clear that issue advocacy groups are having a greater influence. Last year, there was an uproar from these groups because some TV shows got cancelled and it became “a threat to diversity.” Did it occur to them that people just didn’t like the shows, and that’s why they were cancelled? Now, the new trend is female hero leads, from Supergirl to Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Nothing wrong with that but like lobbyists in Washington, TV (and movie) producers can be swayed. And yes, I’ve seen disjointed or “he did this before to the bad guys, why can’t he do it to this one?” scenes. These are continuity errors. And I’ve seen logic errors as well.
Leftist, anarchist fantasies. It has nothing to do with the country. TV is not like a college class you have to sit through. Just turn it off and calmly complain as it gets worse and worse so others can stop watching what amounts to poison for the brain and soul.
Sick, dysfunctional, really bad cartoons? “Those values on which we used to rely.” They spit on those values in Family Guy. They know precisely what they’re doing which is why that quote is in the opening song.
That still doesn’t make bad-wrong and dysfunctional shows any better. I’d never get NetFlix.
Unfortunately that is easier said than done, at least for the majority of young people. The violence, gore, and brutality seen in movies, TV, and video games creates a soulless society that views those things as desirable. Not unlike Nazi Germany or ancient Rome.
This is the time to be countercultural. This is the time for Catholics to say Enough is Enough! Not just let it go on. If we can reach just one person and save them from this spiritual and mental disease, what is that worth? Are we going to stand by while Pagan Rome or Nazi Germany are created on TV! “They’re killing people Live! Tonight!”? Yes, those partially naked women on Game of Thrones are really partially naked. Wake up, my fellow Catholics! Pagan Rome and simulated sex on TV are here!! Now!!!
I don’t watch ANY modern TV (unless you count American Pickers). I am sure there are many, MANY people out there like me who are culturally clue-less on purpose. This has been an interesting thread and has provided a soundboard for people who are fed up.
We’ve come a long way since a show called ‘Your Show of Shows’ included some of the best comedy writers in the business. Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, Mel Brooks, Howard Morris.
A gradual change, year after year, for decades, to poison the American mind. The long road to depravity is what some wanted, and they want us to like this poison as much as they do.
