By the way I am one who was put off by those telling me that “you can tell christians by their speaking in toungs”???

Hogwash I thought and for about 3 years I would not try toungs, I wanted only one gift above all for I searched and found that No other gift allowed me to let go of my flesh and that there was NO other gift that was greater than LOVE so that was all I ever wanted. but …God forced me into asking for this gift of toungs, by giving me a book about toungs from a place that it could only be from God, and by an agnostic auther at that. That was my intro into what God wanted me to have.

I am blessed by having a wife who speaks in toungs when the felling is apropriate or desire is lending, We also use the gift of forgiveness with non christians, christians or other. it does not matter it is Jesus who gets the blessing and I would do any thing to have Jesus blessed (although I am only a human and faulter at times).

If you want the gifts then look at **galatians 5:22, **and
**1 Corinthians 12: 4. ** then
1 Corinthians 14:1;5 speaks about each one to a point.
this will give you some understanding.
then yo can read **James 3:5 **which I believe all should read to show what happens to those who go ahead of God.

Many years ago, in a very distraught state, I stumbled upon a poster for a Life In the Spirit seminar. I didn’t know what it was and I ended up attending only the last day of the eight week seminar. I was prayed over and received the gift of tongues, even though I didn’t know what it was and I wasn’t expecting it or asking for it. I started attending the weekly prayer group at the parish along with my husband who was just going because I was going. I was raised Catholic, but had been away from the Church for some time. My husband was a convert, but hadn’t been practicing. We returned to the Church for the baptism of our first baby. The prayer group quickly became a very important part of our lives. One of our parish priests frequently dropped in on the prayer group and would celebrate Mass with us. I cannot tell you how quickly and how deeply our faith developed as a result of our participation in that charismatic prayer group. Also of note, in the years we participated in the group, there were about 25-30 members. At our parish, every year new members of the parish pastoral council were selected by lot on Pentecost Sunday. Each member would serve a three year term and there were nine members on the parish council. Every year at least one member from the prayer group and often times more than one was selected, by lot drawn during Mass. This is from a parish of 1,000 families. At one point, when I was serving as the president of the council, six of the nine members were also members of the charismatic prayer group. Since our participation in that prayer group, my husband and I have become very Catholic. We attend Mass every Sunday and more if we are able. We confess regularly, we have a deep devotion to Our Blessed Mother, we adore the Blessed Sacrament, we do not contracept and are the honored parents of six beautiful boys. We also promote the rosary through our home business therosaryproject.com Not bad for a former drug addict and stripper! God is soooo good! Jesus’ gift to us, through the cross, is the grace of the Holy Spirit! A charismatic is one who realizes this, embraces this as reality and seeks to live as a temple of the Spirit.

Hey HolyBaby

What a great testimony!!
I just thought I'd ask are you a member of the confraternity of the rosary?

HolyBaby,

That is an awesome testimony! You and your hubby have certainly taken the true spirit and goal of the Charismatic Renewal to heart and made it work in your spiritual lives. I wish more people could see the Charismatic Renewal that way!

God bless you and your beautiful family!

You don’t have to be a linguist to realize these people are not speaking in tongues. No language could possibly be that phontically limited and it’s obvious that there’s no grammar whatsoever. It’s all: ba ba ma ma ra ra la la etc.

If you want to speak the language of the Holy Spirit, learn Latin. 😉

Sure can tell you don’t understand speaking in tongues. Sorry for you.

I think it’s a shame people deride or act dismissive of something they may not fully understand. Shouldn’t we respect each other and allow the people who are Charismatic Catholics to feel they aren’t thought of as less?

Then you without profe say that the bible is wrong, is untruthful, is not inline with Catholic teaching. What can one say?
It surely is sad when one parishiner puts down others who have seen felt acted upon brought people back from the brink of spiritual death, through the gifts of the charismatic cifts.
Which by the way means, Charismatic that is, means “given from the spirit of GOD”
How are you able to say a gift from God that you donot posessis not from God. Would a person who speaks from the head not from the heart be a hypocrit in condeming God’s gifts.

Be at peace and allow God’s gifts into your heart and you will find a freedome you have been offered, told will be given to those who ask freely. AND they will set you free of this world.

littleone,

You put it beautifully. I don’t think one should put down another for a gift they don’t have. If you aren’t interested in it fine, but don’t be rude to others who do have it and value it.

JoeyPio, Could you tell me what the gift of deliverance is?

To everyone who is reading this who have been blessed with special gifts of the Holy Spirit, would you be able to help me? I know three people who have been diagnosed with cancer in the last couple of weeks. And another person I know and love hit rock bottom with depression because of a difficult family situation. And my husbands friend committed suicide. He has young children and fell into despair when he lost his job and drained his savings to provide for his family.

I posted another thread asking about the gift of healing but nobody has responded to it. I would love to receive this gift so I can bring God’s peace and healing to all the broken people He puts in my life. My heart yearns to bring His peace and hope to these people in a profound way. I will continue praying and hope that my normal, not-the-big-gift-of-healing prayers work. But in the meantime, I’d love to know how God chooses who He will give that gift to.

Again, to all of you who have gifts of the Holy Spirit, could you please pray for the above people? Especially those of you who have the gift of healing.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
GIFT OF DELIVERANCE: It is the gift of the Holy Spirit that deals with the influences of bad spirit or the devil himself. Mine was not all absolute. Only a portion of that evil influence.
Code:
I can deal with the bad spirit in free form - meaning the spirit himself and not human giving embodiment of the influence of evil that that man work evil even without the presence of the evil spirit.
How do I know there are bad or evil or demon or devils around? I can smell them, they show sometimes, they may be heard sometime. WHAT'S OUTSTANDING is THEIR PRESENCE MAKE ME SUFFER. I feel pain, they give off foul odors, they create noise, I can't breath, at times I can not move. When I hold a man being persecuted by them, I fell pain, I suffer their suffering at times. There are times also that my spiritual "weapons" (not material or physical) just gets off to protect me and the victim. I have a post in the thread "I can see demons" about the the sacramentals or "material/physical "weapon" I use.
I am not yet ready to discuss the "spiritual weapons" I am telling because, "EVEN FOR ME, THEY ARE TOO POWERFUL. I AM ONLY A HUMAN. My understanding about it God has not revealed fully. But I am sure it's GOD's.I found them in the bible. God use them. the angels use them. Holy Mother Mary and Lord Jesus use them.
I only have healing effect on sickness caused by the evil spirits, or the demon particularly those that are not recognizable by medicine or science. Removing these bad influences, healing follows naturally. Not from my gift.
I can't answer why GOD has chosen me for this gift. If I have a choice, I won't want it. Who wants anyway to face to face with the devil? But I thank God, because He's showing me His power, His Glory, HIS LOVE.
How I discovered the "spiritual weapons"? Each encounter I have, they just come out. When I act on somebody being persecuted, that molesting spirit comes to me and the fight begins. I only know that the persecution is over if by the "weapons" have defeated the evil, NOT me. I am only an embodiment of that power. I just allow that "power of God" to work through me. NONE OF MY DOING. Whats the feeling? wonderful! even if it hurt sometimes.

Hey Joe,
watta ya know,
Code:
Just got a few questions about your ministry.....
Where do you find these people that need deliverance?

Have you ver dealt with anyone who was fully possessed?
Code:
Are you ever just walkin down the street and sense a person who walks past is

      affected by spirits?

Did you ever pray with someone who was suicidal and find a demonic influence that

         contributed to their condition?

Is deliverance a specific charism or a manifestation of the charism of

        intercesssory prayer?

There are different manifestations of the gift. Sometimes people speak actual human languages. (similar to that which the Apostles experienced after Pentecost). I personally witnessed someone do this. As for there being no grammar, you’re comparing the language of God ( a spiritual language) with that of humans, there lies part of the difference. The proof of the authenticity of tongues is in its efficacy: Many miraculous healings are brought about through praying in tongues.

I am sorry if the way I expressed myself was insulting to the Charismatic Catholics. I do stand 100% behind the content of my statement; in retrospect, however, I should have expressed it in a nicer way.

As a Roman Catholic, I personally find this Charismatic movement to be offensive. I know there are Protestant denominations who believe in these things and I think that people who are drawn to these practices ought to join those religions and not try to undermine the Roman Catholic Church by introducing such practices.

Linguistically, something isn’t a language, or tongue, if it lacks a grammar. If you listen to people uttering these sounds, you will notice that there is absolutely no consistency at all. If it were truly a tongue, everyone speaking it would employ a consistent diction and syntax.

I was being entirely serious when I suggested learning Latin. I think people want to speak a holy language but not do want to undergo the hard work that’s required to actually learn a language, so instead they make stuff up. I would urge the Catholics here to avoid the theatricality of these practices; they may be fun, but they undermine our Church.

FIRST, they are reported by the victims or concerned individuals. We inform the parish priest about it and secure his permission to investigate the report. At times, we find victims in our rounds to visit the sick in their homes or hospitals.

What signs we are looking for? Any materials of occult in nature, any belief that is contrary to the teachings of the church particularly those that attacks the church, any practices that are not prescribed by the church, like spells, hexes, curses, witchcraft, amulets, divinations and etc. In short, any thing that does not show full faith in God and and calling upon the spirits. The objective is get those people out of them and bringing them to the faith. It is a difficult task particularly to those who already experienced wonders from these things. Remember, the devil can duplicate wonders of God, but not all as life and creation. The big difference is, the fruit of it - it leads you out of the church particularly from the sacraments.

Sometimes are are forced to draw off with their occult and powers only to make sure that the victim and their families are not drawn out from the church.

I have dealt with suicidal, male suicidal are most difficult to deal with, but none with the influence of bad spirits yet. Most are just emotional stress that leads to anger or hatred and unfulfilled egos. Pouring out of those stresses and redirecting egos are just what it needed.

We are not allowed to take possession cases. As soon as we are sure about it, we refer immediately to the priest. We just initiate for the prayer support.

In some cases, particularly myself had tried dealing with people I met along the way. These are the people using their occults and others showing it off especially in the church yards. As I have said, their presence and their use of their occults hurt me.Even if they do so in silence and anonymity I can still confront them.

Deliverance is like exorcism. deliverance is for lay and exorcism for the clergy. The church does not allow lay to use the solemn rite of exorcism. BOTH HAVE THE CHARACTERISTIC OF AUTHORITY AGAINST THE EVIL SPIRIT AND ITS POWERS.

Unlike in the intercessory prayer, you ask God but let God do the task. In deliverance and exorcism, the authority directly from God or from the church is there for the minister to use, but, its effect is through God’s will. There is a great difference with God doing the task himself from letting a minister do it and allowing its powers.

So you’re saying charismatics made up praying in tongues (the way they pray it) and its not a gift of the Holy Spirit?

Can you please explain how the use of tongues undermines our church?

What is it about the charismatic movement that offends you?
