What is a "revelation"?

Only in your opinion. Just as you find all the evidence presented by other religions to be insufficient… but I already pointed it out to you… no need to repeat myself.

Was there ever a devout christian, who hated God? Come on…
You really don’t understand Christianity-or apparently the deceitfulness of human nature either. Come on…Well, maybe you can’t yet.

If only I had a dollar for every time this was asserted… so if God does not reveal himself to me, then it is MY FAULT, since I did not seek him with my “whole heart”. What an ingenious cop-out… blame the skeptic for God’s inaction. Let’s just drop it… I am tired to see the same ridiculous “argument” over and over again. I ask, and get no answer… that is all what counts. Case closed.
it’s not your fault; it is a matter of His grace

one knows it is a revelation because one sees Truth;
you exist, right - that is truth
it is like that - no ideas, no beliefs - reality

in terms of proving a revelation: one can only do so if the Holy Spirit informs the listener
like pain: for the other, one’s most real experience, remains in the realm of the imagination

Tyrion…

U are too impatient…

In what, maybe 4-5 days after posting, you are ready to close your search and walk ?
…and miss your hope @ a revelation ?

A whole heart is a necessity, but also determination of mind ! When you have set both heart and mind to the revelation quest, …then you are on the right path.

Ah, so it is MY FAULT again… but this time I am too impatient? Guess what buddy… those 4-5 days are actually 4-5 DECADES - I am over 65 years old… 🙂 What will be the next excuse? That I am not serious enough? That I am just deceiving myself, and I don’t “really” want that revelation? Or that the revelation is in front of my eyes, but I stubbornly close my eyes to it?

The excuses are endless… and here is a nice, tongue-in-cheek, “sort of true” story for your edification: Read this and weep

That is an interesting statement. I was talking to someone today about this very thing-about why some get it and some don’t -and it boiled down to this: as with anything else in life you have to want it. If you’re hung up on having everything go your way in this world, however, you probably won’t look for it very hard.

Anything? Everything? It is true only if that “whatever” you want is contingent upon your actions. And “revelation” is definitely not one of those. You can “ask” for it, but you cannot make it happen. As millions of people can attest, no matter how hard you ask, it will NOT happen - which is not surprising, since God is supposed to be “immutable”. (Just another one of those contradictions the christians believe in, and deny it simultaneously… does the word “doublethink” ring a bell?)

And now it is again MY FAULT, since I do not “want” is hard enough… how many more (lame) excuses will be brought up?

Yes, it’s your fault, many times over…since walking away from God & that congregation of believers, with sincere pastor, back in your formative years. Your confirmation/formation in Christ, either didn’t occur, or was rejected/impeded by you, since you now tell us you never perceived Enlightenment/Revelation, by God’s HS within your mind/heart.

Also, today being 1st day of Holy Season, Lent, …let me suggest you ‘give up’ reading the Onion, …the Skeptic’s news-source/entertainment venue. It will only impede your journey back to your Creator/Father. And, as a thing to do, during Lent, spend your free time reading / having helpful dialogue@ CAF, where we don’t major in skepticism, only the Truth !

If, you had valid Baptism back then, you can rightly understand your predicament as redeemed, but currently a prodigal, wayward son…in need of recovery, and proper Confirmation, which completes our water baptisms, confirming us with the Paraclete, the Counselor, the abiding HS of Christ within.

Dissect it any which way you want but It’s a simple principle, ‘as with anything in life you have to *want it. *’ if someone sincerely desires faith to begin with, they’ll receive it. Another truism is that many of us have-full glasses, if things don’t go our way-when suffering comes-we prefer whining and blaming God to facing the challenge.

Why on Earth would I (or anyone else) desire to have “faith”? I desire “knowledge”. I am aware that “faith” is considered to be a “theological virtue”, but I could not care less about this “virtue”. Knowledge is infinitely superior to “wishful thinking” (aka. faith). And we shall NOT receive it - no matter how seriously we desire to get it.

The theological virtue of faith is the gift of knowing something to be true without being able to prove it. You want it in order to answer questions that science has no means to prove-but which are nonetheless important for all humans in order to have authentic confidence in the meaning, purpose, and ultimate goodness of life -even in the midst of the inevitable suffering it entails. God, Himself, provides the knowledge that we’re not doing it on our own.

Because …faith begets knowledge. U are putting cart before the horse.

Think about it …even the Apostles who knew Christ in the flesh, had Public revelations of he, his miracles, etc …still needed to have faith to receive HS (private revelation of God). Christ ‘breathed’ his HS into them, on basis of their faith.

Same applies to us today ! So, when your faith is sufficient, known only by God the Father, …then you will receive your Private Revelation, of truth.

better to have no god than a cruel god

i could not agree more with the sentiment

behind your anger, i see God’s love
