A couple of parishes nearby are hosting Divine Mercy Sunday. Is this a special Mass? or is it something extra which occurs afterwards?

Pope John Paul II the Great made the Sunday after Easter, Divine Mercy Sunday. See the above site for more information. Our parish also celebrates Divine Mercy Sunday. It is wonderful, by that, I mean both God’s Divine Mercy, and the Sunday celebration.

God Bless

At our parish, we usually have a special service in the afternoon, not a mass.
We do some scriptural readings, a reflection on the history of the Divine Mercy…introducing St.Faustina and her apparitions, as well as an explanation as to the indulgences allowed when it is practiced…
and we end by reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

This year it will be done entirely in Polish, so I will be attending at a neighboring parish that will be praying the chaplet in English so I can participate fully.

I think different parishes celebrate “Divine Mercy Sunday” in different ways. Some have a special mass. (which I will admit, don’t really know what it entails)

This year, (for the 1st time that I know of) our parish will be hosting a “Divine Mercy Hour of Adoration” at 3:00 PM which I plan to attend especially since I have been praying the novena since Good Friday. Will find out I guess how it is structured.🤷

Our parish is having Adoration after Mass until Benediction at 2:30pm. Confessions from 1:30 - 2:00, and Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2:00.

Also, there is an indulgence granted for Divine Mercy Sunday, but I’m not sure of the details.

My parish has the novena since Good Friday. I think the last day is Saturday and there’ll be mass on Sunday.

There is a special plenary indulgence given by the Lord on Divine Mercy Sunday along with special graces. An act of mercy during lent, confession, veneration of the image of Divine Mercy and the Eucharist on Divine Mercy Sunday is what is needed for this. This one is special because the floodgates of mercy will be open on that day. I was told by my Priest that confession 20 days prior or after is ok for the indulgence. I’m not sure about the special graces and the time of confession though. If someone has read St. Faustina’s diary and knows when she went to confession for this, would you let us know? Thanks, Tim

I think she went the saturday before Divine Mercy Sunday but I am not 100% sure.

Thanks Stove,
My confusion is with the Lord’s promise vs. the Church’s plenary indugence. The indugence is under the usual conditions, but the promise allows venial sin. Since the promise falls under private revelation, we are not bound to believe it. But, the terms for the plenary indulgence fulfils the promise and is what the Church wants us to strive for. Tim

She went on the Saturday, and Jesus ok’d it, I think the requirement is to go-to Confession 8 days before or 8 days after Low Sunday.

Well an up-date, went to the Divine Mercy Celebration tonight at 6pm, went on to 8/15.

Well this news to me, but the Priest Father Michael was quoted by a helper that he “Fr Michael” looked up the Vatican website (today) and it was 20 days before and 20 days after. (the conditions for Confession)

That being said if its true, then if you went at Easter then you fulfilled those conditions.
Iv’e been doing the Divine Mercy when it was hardly known in Ireland and before it was part of the Liturgical calendar, and I never heard of it.
If anyone can find those Confession conditions on the Vatican website please post up the link, anyway last year it was 8 days, now it’s 20. 🤷

The indulgence is 20 days before or after. ewtn.com/devotionals/mercy/summary.htm
Thanks, that’ll do, although I couldn’t find it on the Vatican site, no time right now, that site is extensive.
Seems like it takes a few years for these Devotions to settle down with a lot of confusion in the early years, I’ve had to correct people who thought they fulfilled the requirements.

Like I say, last year it was 8 days…anyway thanks.

The indulgence is different than the promise, which is easier to fulfill.
