I’ve heard this term thrown around a couple of times and never got around to asking exactly what it is. So, what is it?
Thanks,
God Bless.

Holy Week is next week. You can experience this on Holy Thursday, after the Mass of the Last Supper (where you will see the reenactment of the washing of the feet by the priest), where the Eucharist is exposed in the monstrance, to a special place designated in the church for this special worship.I’ve heard this term thrown around a couple of times and never got around to asking exactly what it is. Thanks for your very descriptive answer. Sounds pretty interesting. It is the worship of Jesus Christ outside of the mass. A consecrated host is placed in a monstrance and set upon the altar for the faithful to worship. Since the consecrated host contains our Lord Jesus in His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, we are strongly encouraged by the Church to worship Him in this fashion.
You have heard of a “holy hour”? Well, this usually means spending an hour in prayer, reflection or scripture reading before our Lord, either as He is reposed in the Tabernacle, or exposed during adoration. Most parishes offer adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at least some time during the week. Many parishes offer perpetual adoration, which is truly a blessing.
For years after coming into the Church, I did not go t adoration. However, once I began, great things began to happen. I have experienced miracles in prayer before our Lord at adoration. A week is not complete unless I can spend time with Him. If you are looking for a booster of worship via adoration, you have found one.
It is by far the best kept secret in our faith. The graces that you can receive; the comfort and spiritual direction that can be yours are nearly indescribable. Being in Jesus’ presence at adoration has caused conversions to occur.
We all begin with some hesitation or doubt. But, persist in your worship of our Lord, and doubt will be erased, supplanted by awe. I advise you to just go. As with His followers, it took some time for them to be convinced, but once they were, they were changed. Thanks for your very descriptive answer. Sounds pretty interesting.
Here is the Wiki article, which seems to parallel known Catholic sources. Of note is the fact that Eucharistic Adoration is not restricted to the Catholic faith.I’m glad this question was posted because I’ve been curious.
Can anyone tell me the earliest known instances of Eucharistic adoration in the church and how it came about? Thanks.
Francis Cardinal Arinze, the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, in his book Celebrating The Holy Eucharist, devotes a chapter to the worship of the Eucharist outside of the mass - basically during during holy hours before the Tabernacle (Reposition) or during Adoration (Exposition). This book is most certainly worth a read for all Catholics and those interested in Catholicism. Thanks for your very descriptive answer. Sounds pretty interesting.
Some are incredulous when I speak of miracles I have experienced before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I have seen one too many miracles to ever doubt again. I cannot recommend it highly enough.Eucharistic Adoration is priceless and in many ways the key to everything.
Trust in the Lord, and not in sensible rewards. There is priceless grace from Eucharistic Adoration.
If you can go, go, and spend a holy hour. If you ever are able – just to spend an hour in front of the tabernacle, in a church that is open… every day… this will be a rock in your spiritual life that will fundamentally always affect your life.
It’s a great habit to rise early in the morning, before the day’s business begins, and stay there and pray for an hour before the tabernacle.
Like quiet thunder… Eucharistic Adoration, always, works within a person’s life and soul.
I had the great grace of when I was preparing for Confirmation, being taken by a fellow to Eucharistic Adoration for the first time whose practice was the above.
I can only recommend his example to you and to anyone who can take it up, or come close as one can possibly.![]()
It’s the truth. If only people would show more respect to the Eucharist. Some are incredulous when I speak of miracles I have experienced before our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. I have seen one too many miracles to ever doubt again. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
