Do you (and others here on CAF) believe that the Lord has given us over to our sins and abandoned us? I kind of feel that way–that God is using this abandonment to force us to seek His Face and call upon His Name again. That was once the case, or at least it was tried. Shortly after Catholic immigrants started coming in large numbers, Catholic grade schools, high schools, colleges and universities sprung up. They really did try to form a faithfully Catholic lady or gentleman. And they hoped such a group would guide this country in moral ways.
But the thing fell apart in the seventies, and now we see homosexual organizations recognized on most “Catholic” campuses and a lot of heterodoxy.
I know God still works in the hearts of certain Christians, but I think that these people are becoming rarer in this country. I pray that I am one of the “remnant” and not one of the departers, but I find it difficult to maintain my zeal for the Lord and His Church during this time when meeting with Christians in the Holy Mass is “not encouraged” and in some places, forbidden by various city/town ordinances.
I know that there have been other times in history when Christians have been forbidden to meet with each other in worship, and we got through it and grew stronger. I hope that happens here in the U.S., but I am discouraged. At this time when Christians should be leading the world in humanitarian outreaches, we are hiding in our houses counting on our scraps of face cloth to deliver us from the evil virus.
