Marriage is a grace, a Sacrament, given to one man and one woman by God to share in the miracle of creation and to love and support each other for their entire lives while on their journey to heaven.
Jesus tells us; “So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Mt 19:16)
“The marriage covenant, by which a man and a woman form with each other an intimate communion of life and love, has been founded and endowed with its own special laws by the Creator. By its very nature it is ordered to the good of the couple, as well as to the generation and education of children. Christ the Lord raised marriage between the baptized to the dignity of a sacrament” (CCC 1660).
Sacramentally unmarried couples lack the grace that strengthens the perfect commitment which God gives us, to persevere “for better or for worse till death do us part!”
We cannot do it on our own, we need God’s help!
