What is most Protestamts interpretation of this verse

Could unworthily mean receiving without believing in or discerning or remembering His sacrifice on the cross for us all? Not distinguishing how He gave up His body for us? I don’t know just throwing that out there as a possible Protestant answer.

I’ve thought about those answers too, but I’ve partaken in Seder meals (which are completely symbolic) and to me, partaking in the Seder without thinking about His sacrifice in the cross makes you miss out on an opportunity in growing closer to God, but I wouldn’t say that it’s profaning His body and blood. Like I said, that just seems too extreme a punishment for a symbol.

Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

I call this communion and it is done in rememberance of Jesus broken body and the spilling of his blood for my sake. By my eating the broken bread/body and drinking the wine/blood (grape juice) I am showing I accept that Jesus is my Savior and only thorugh the shedding of his blood and the breaking of his body can I be made acceptable to GOD.

Unworthily partaking, you have not accepted Jesus as your Savior and just do it because you see others doing it or you are hungry and feel you need a snack. Either way it should only be taken by those who accept Jesus as Savior.
