What is odd about you....?

I would rather not feel the full effect of some things if I can help it. What I mean by that is I will only turn the volume up on an electronic device as high as the 2nd highest setting. Or use 2nd warmest setting for heat in a car, etc. This is symbolism to remind myself I am only here but a short while and a greater, true full effect of life will be felt once I die and cross the veil.

I heal very quickly–in about half the time. The best example of this is when I broke all the fingers in my right hand when I fell off a bike. They were compound fractures (snapped clean though and my fingers were dangling at odd angles). They set them, cast my whole hand and sent me on my way.

In three weeks they x-rayed me to see how they were healing and SURPRISE the bones were totally fused–so the took the cast off.

Then they told me I would need physical therapy to regain normal movement and might have partial movement… and to come back in a week. Except that I started to get Alight headed and felt like I was going to pass out when they cut the cast off (I have no idea why) and I heard that I “should be able to have normal movement in a week.” So I came back a week later and had full range of movement in my fingers (although my hand was weak). The doctor said he never saw anything like it.

I am like that with most injuries and illnesses (if I get sick at all).

It’s good to heal quickly–especially since I am accident prone to compliment it, lol.
My mother and I are both like this!!! She had an oral surgury and her Dr. insisted that she must be taking human growth hormone… I did a similar thing to you with a leg bone. First, with the type of break I had my 60+ y/o doctor said I was his first patient that didn’t require surgury to put tendons and such back in place… And then by week 6 there was NO sign of a break. Although he refused to take the cast off… He didn’t trust the healing at all!

I’m a writer… 🎉

:compcoff:

'nuff said!
Wow, apparently no one else on these forums has known writers evidenced by the lack of quoting, but let me just say. I was just talking about the (amateur) writers I’ve met, and the three adjectives that came to mind were: deep, tortured and…strange. On further reflection, though, it’s redundant to say someone is “deep, tortured and strange,” because the first invariably creates the other two in a sort of trinitarian sense. Make that a very trinitarian sense. Hmm…

When I see the color orange the word green comes out and vice versa.

I am so emotional that I cry at everything. I cried reading an excerpt from a book on Amazon last night, and while watching a Folgers Coffee commercial today where the son comes home from South Africa, etc…I cry during all the songs at Mass, and while singing the Our Father, etc., etc…I had to drop out of 2 church choirs, because the music moved me so much, I sometimes couldn’t even sing…

I was told by a nun once that I have the “gift of tears” whatever that is.🤷

P.S. I was always like this…not just recently…think I get it from my mom.

I can relate john…

Deep, tortured, strange…that’s me.

True of most creative people I think, all artists…

I cant sit still, I HAVE to move something (as I write this i am jigging my foot). Also I think better when walking around and often do it without realizing (I did 4 laps of the lounge room thinking this morning)

I can burp at will, and not like little burps, I once did one that set off a street full of car alarms!
I can’t burp! I make a strange gurgling sound:o My husband says I sound like our coffee maker:o

I have really short, fat toes and wee tiny toe nails…the nail on my pinky toe is so small it looks like I don’t have one…DH calls them my sausage toes…I’ll take my sausage toes over the monkey toes he and the kids have!

Most of the time, I beat the crowd wherever I go. The line forms behind me or the crowd arrives after me.

I turn the wrong way first when I come out of a store in a mall. I go the wrong way if I don’t know my way somewhere. No sense of direction at all.

I like to eat non-breakfast foods for breakfast. Today it was 2 packs of ramen noodles.

I never wanted my sons to go back to school in the fall. All the other parents were saying they couldn’t wait until school started again and I would cry when it was time for them to go back.

I am double-jointed on my hands. You’d have to see that to know what I mean. My fingers bend backwards.

I might as well chime in…

I’m homesteading with no electricity, and I love it.

I’m also a writer, which I don’t really consider strange so much as solitary.

I see spirits and ghosts often.

I dream of something three nights in a row if it will happen, I’ve never been wrong in that.

I didn’t know I was odd until I got married. 😃

My wife says:

1- I always eat parts of my meals one at a time until I complete one, then I move onto the next one. So if I’m having Turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing I’ll eat all of the turkey, then all of the potatoes, and then all of the stuffing. I never even realized I did that until my wife pointed it out.

2- Apparently, I make this weird facial expression when I’m bored. I didn’t even realize i did that until the wife pointed it out.

3- I kill watches, as others have mentioned in this thread.

4- I do a lot of geeky things including writing, designing games, and reading sci-fi and fantasy.

5- I’m oddly proportioned. My wife is an occupational therapist so it’s part of her profession to analyze body proportions and movements. Apparently my legs and arms are very short for my height. I passed it on to my daughter and at first the doctors thought she had dwarfism, fortunately the genetic testing proved otherwise.

Some more oddities about me.

I want to learn how to knit…don’t ask me why it just seems like it would be fun.
I sing in the car a lot. (Get a lot of strange looks at stop lights when doing it but who cares)
I’m not able to sit in one position for a long period of time.
I kill house plants no matter how little or much I water them.
I don’t like wearing anything on my head or anything heavy around my neck.
I love the smells or fried chicken, bacon or coffee but can’t stand the taste of any of them.
I don’t eat any seafood…none of it looks good to me.
I can be the biggest couch potato or the most active person you know.

Come on admit it we all have something odd about us.

I still believe in God a lot of people I know consider that odd.

I will drive a mile out of my way to avoid making a left hand turn.

I have not parallel parked since flunking my first Ohio drivers license test in 1972 (they did not make me do it in Michigan)

in parking lots I do the opposite of most people and look for a spot in the outer part of the lot where I can pull through and drive straight out (esp. walmart where kids are allowed to run around freely in the parking lot).

I have few girlie habits (no make-up, don’t color my hair or get it done weekly, don’t wear heels etc). My femininity shows in fear of spiders and bugs, refusal to do guy jobs like changing the oil or washing the car or cutting the grass. But I hate shopping, and shop like a guy, go into the most likely store, go straight to what I want, pick the first one that looks good, pay and get out.

Well, actually, I too am a writer–a published one. I just don’t like to confess to it. 😊😉

We must have been twins separated at birth - I have a similar list of quirks. I wore high heels once - to my high school graduation - and swore, never again. I wore flats to my wedding, with the white dress, etc. Nobody even noticed. 😃

I can and have parallel parked, but I need lots of time, and I need for there not to be someone behind me, honking at me or trying to “direct” me - I am incapable of parallel parking when someone is watching, but I can do it just fine if I’m alone on the road and have the time I need to think it through, step by step.

I haven’t worn make-up since I was fourteen, and I love that my hair is silver - I wouldn’t change it for anything. I keep it short for easy maintenance. 🙂

I used to do all my own car maintenance, up until we could afford to join the auto club - since then, I just call them and make them do it - what else are we paying them for? 😛

Annie, I do this too! It drives my husband nuts. Why back up when you don’t have to? Too many people letting theur kids run around, other cars coming through, etc.

I am a stickler for routines. I have a set schedule for how things are done around here on school evenings. Any change to that schedule drives me nuts. I am super organized when it comes to certain things and SO disorganized when it comes to others. I come from a huge family and married in to one too, but hate large crowds. I am very outgoing, but don’t socialize much at all. I always get talked about because I avoid parties, etc. If I do go, I always have a great time, but getting me there is a chore!

Another odd thing about me is that I HATE to be photographed! You will seriously get on my bad side by taking a picture of me. In fact, my sister recently told me that I better let someone take pictures of me cause otherwise when I die, there won’t be any pictures of me. I told her that she will just have to draw me. She said all she can draw are stick figures. I told her no problem, I’ve always wanted to be thin…LOL!

I forgot one - medications usually start working very quickly for me, and I almost never get side effects. I react positively and quickly to almost any medicine I take. That is a huge blessing.

SEE???!?!!?

I have found that if I say to a new acquaintance “I’m a writer,” I get, “Oh!” followed by a deafening silence. As if they’re not sure whether to say “How nice!” or “I’m so sorry.”

I’m going back into the closet now with my notebook and pen…

:rotfl: I get the same reaction. But who can blame them? There’s nothing exciting in being a writer unless you’re a famous one, is there? 😛

As a painter (artist) people always say to me, “I wish I was that talented.”

As for me, I wish I had a steady, boring job where they give you a lot of money at the end of every month. There is always a trade-off - nobody hires artists - I think they are afraid that we might cut our ears off in the middle of a board meeting, or something.

Bye, have fun. I’m gonna go and be really talented in my studio. 😃
