Beofre anyone tells me that there is nothing in Tradition that doesnt agree with the Bible–there is most of Marian theology(I do not wish to discuss–just an example) and the list that someone put out earlier in thread.
Please a simple answer will do. It is either one or the other.

Thanks:thumbsup:
The fact is anything the Church teaches about Mary does not contradict the bible. You say you do not want to discuss the Blessed Virgin and I will respect that but you either have to take the Church’s teaching on this, that nothing taught about Mary goes against the bible, or you need to open the subject about Mary and her role.

The fact is, the bible is not a book about Mary, its about Christ, if you want to know about Mary, you ask Christ (that is His Church - since the TWO have become ONE FLESH - see Ephesians 5)

Hi,

I have a question:confused: Catholics say that in order to understand the faith we need to have Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium—correct?

What happens when Sacred/Oral Tradition does not line up with the Bible? Which one trumps the other?Does the bible win out or doea Sacred/Oral Tradition win out.

Marian theology doesn’t so the response is that there is no trumping. If any of legs would have been misused and prone to contradiction it would have been the Magesterium vs the other 2, but to my knowledge it has not happened and will not happen … ever.

The simple answer is you are wrong.

Marian devotion and the doctrines and dogmas pertaining to the Blessed Mother are all supported by Scripture and expounded in Tradition and protected by the Magisterium.

And. . .if you did not wish to discuss them, you shouldn’t have brought them up! Without discussion, all we can say simply is that you are wrong.

You see Sacred Tradition, Magesterium and Sacred Scripture as opposing rather than complentary facets. That is what the Church is … so for us who are Catholics to separate the 3 does not make sense.

Your question reminded me of the question “Can God make a rock bigger than He can lift?” and saying there are only 2 answers, Yes, He can make a rock bigger than He can lift or No, He cannot make a rock bigger than He can lift. Both give the inidication that God is not all powerful.

For a non-Christian wondering about a Triune God the question would be … if God disagreed with Jesus and the Holy Spirit who wins out?

Scripture vs the teaching of the Immaculate Conception.

Scripture:
Romans 3:23f or all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Immaculate Conception:
Mary never sinned.

Scripture:
Romans 4:5 … God who justifies the ungodly …
Romans 5:6 … God died for the ungodly …

Immaculate Conception:
Mary was never ungodly

This definitely contradicts the Scriptures, but I don’t want change topics just wanted to answer the nice lady’s question.

Also, ALLFORHIM, the question you posed:

simply put, is ill-posed, since Christ assured us, the faithful, that we would not be led into error.

SS…Was Eve born with original sin?

or better, yet, did Jesus, being fully-human, fall short of the glory of God?
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God
How is Jesus Christ, the MAN, excluded from your interpretation?

I dont even see how you could include Jesus in this. This was Paul speaking to the Jews and Gentiles telling them that noone of them is better then the other because we all have sinned. At this point Jesus has already paid the price for our sin.

It says “all” doesn’t it? 🙂

First of all, Eve was not born, she was created from one of Adam’s rib. Second, Eve did sin. The Immaculate Conception not only states Mary was born without sin, but she never sinned. Well, I have some bad news and some good news. Good news first. Christ died for the ungodly. Bad news, based on Catholicism’s teaching Mary was not ungodly, therefore she has no Savior. Third, more good news. Good thing is that Catholicism is wrong and Mary is saved and blessed amongst all women!

Okay, Eve was created sinless. Just wanted to show that Scriptural precedent was set. Could God have created Mary sinless if He wanted?

Umm, the Scripture specifically excludes Him and Him only and that is why He didn’t need a savior, but even your church teaches Mary needed a savior.
