A bill in Congress makes it a crime for pastors and churches to speak against homosexuality
Message to pastors and other Christians: Just keep your mouth shut
==========================================================
If pastors and other Christians don’t aggressively oppose a bill now in Congress, in the near future they will be subject to huge fines and prison terms if they say anything negative about homosexuality.
The proposed law would make it a crime to preach on Romans Chapter 1 or I Corinthians Chapter 6. Or even to discuss them in a Sunday School class. If churches and individuals want to keep the government from telling them what they can and cannot preach and teach about homosexuality, they better get involved now!
House bill H.R. 1592 and Senate bill S. 1105 would make negative statements concerning homosexuality, such as calling the practice of homosexuality a sin from the pulpit, a “hate crime” punishable by law. This dangerous legislation would take away your freedom of speech and your freedom of religion. Consider what has already happened:
A California lawsuit which is headed to the U.S. Supreme Court would make the use of the words “natural family,” “marriage” and “union of a man and a woman” a “hate speech” crime in government workplaces. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has already ruled in favor of the plaintiffs!
CNN and The Washington Post both reported that General Peter Pace, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was fired because he publicly expressed moral opposition to homosexual behavior.

You have the AFA action alert too?

I can understand this decision, its on the same grounds as hate crimes. For example the KKK were religiously against african americans, just as Christians are religiously against homosexuals.

And any rational person at this point believes African Americans to be equal in everything to Cocasions and etc. But a long time ago people believed African Americans to be worth less and unequal.

In other words the world is becoming a bit less hating every day 🙂

I could understand it if christians, as a whole, are beating and killing homosexuals and pretty much discriminating against them on all things. But we don’t. Those who truly follow Christ welcome these people into our churches so that they may be exposed to God. Even tho the practice is openly viewed as a sin it doesn’t mean the person practicing it is horrible or worth less…

That’s amusing. I think it is hateful to tell people of faith that they cannot preach the truths of their faith…that is real hate imo.

No matter how what a person’s belief is about homosexuals, this bill is WRONG. There is something called ‘Freedom of Speech’. Remember that? It’s part of our constitution and a right.

A person should be able to express any stupid bigoted thing they believe. And those who disagree with what they said should be able to counter it.

The KKK still has it’s stupid anti-any-non-white person beliefs. They are allowed talk about it. The rest of us have told them in no uncertain terms that they are out of line.

have you ever heard the hateful anti-white talk from a some in the black community. Are they going to be shut-up too with laws?

Speech should not be a hate crime. All crimes are however based on hate.

So you two are saying you would be alright if another religion (not beat) but preached against black people? I would be offended (and I’m white 😛 ) and actually ministers have insighted violence into youth against homosexuals before.

Sharpton’s hate speech against whites as lead to the death of several people. No one shuts him up.

Preaching for violence is wrong, preaching opinion is our right. Further, preaching religious truths is a constitutionally protected right. Do you really want to start taking away our constitutionally protected rights? If yes, where does it end?

But he should be shut up.
No, he has a right to his opinion. He cannot incite violence, he cannot call for violence, yet he has a right to free speech. That is one of the foundational rights of this nation, without it we are nothing.

So I’ll ask again, you would be alright with someone preaching against black people?

And who says the preaching doesn’t lead to hate and violence? take some impressionable violent teenagers tell them homosexuals are immoral and they will feel JUSTIFIED in beating a gay man. In fact the reason homosexuality is illegal in some countries is because of religion.

Tennessee Williams was the victim of an assault in January 1979 in Key West, being beaten by five teenage boys, but he was not seriously injured. The episode was part of a spate of anti-gay violence inspired by an anti-gay newspaper ad run by a local Baptist minister.

Should you be shut-up for posting here? What if someone says your speech is hate filled and says “you” shoul dbe shut-up and not allowed on the internet ever again?
But I’m not preaching hate. I’m just trying to context this decision for some people. I’m not saying the people who say anything against me are immoral or anything.

Unfortunately people always take things to extreme but you shouldn’t be monitored about what you speak of. We don’t HATE homosexuals. We don’t speak out against THEM. We do however believe that the act is a sin.

Should we not be able to talk about murder? That is a sin and those who commit it are rarely put into a postitive light. But a TRUE christian will not hate the murderer but will speak out against the act.

Should I go to Congress and try to get a law passed saying that catholics can no longer speak out against protestantism? That has led to MANY deaths as well as vice versa… How 'bout it? Should we pass a law that says you will be punished for committing a hate crime if you say anything against protestants?

I think preaching against black people would be morally perverse and wrong. Yet, if the person is not inciting violence, is not asking for violence and is merely speaking a terrible opinion, then he has a right to do so. That is out right, you just can’t take it away without ruining this nation.

If people become violent, they have commited a crime, not the person voicing an opinion. Can you not see, this silencing of views can go to any level. We can be “shut-up” for posting here.

Well I just know I don’t believe in hate crimes. A person shouldn’t preach against a person for how they are born and an opinion can lead to violence just look at what a previous poster said

“Sharpton’s hate speech against whites as lead to the death of several people. No one shuts him up.”

You say you are not preaching hate. What if someone thinks you are and then gets you shut-up?

Think it through. Preaching the truths of God is NOT speaking hate, it is preaching the truths of God. Yet, some people who do not like those Biblical passages call it hate speech, which is utter nonsense. Free speech is our right, and the beauty of it is we can say all sorts of stupid things because we have that right and no-one can take that away…it is the very thing that makes this nation so unique throughout all history.

I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!

No matter how vile, a peson has right to voice their opinions.

But he should be shut up.
He should have been prosecuted for insighting a riot and encourging people to kill. Encouraging violence is a crime.

But as long a people do not encourage violence what they say is covered by free speech.
