I don’t mean to be the party pooper, but Purgatory is a state of divine cleansing as we prepare for Heaven. I don’t think we should be making light of it.
yeah, you’re right…I don’t mean to be the party pooper, but Purgatory is a state of divine cleansing as we prepare for Heaven. I don’t think we should be making light of it.
***You’re point is valid, however it does not preclude the absolute need for Purgatory.the Catholic Church seems to me to be “negligent” in not emphasizing how we can do our Purgatory (a lot of it, even all of it if we choose) by such things as offering up our daily sufferings to atone for our past sins (which have hopefully been sacramentally forgiven in Confession)…
such things as: financial problems, teenagers, having to say NO to your sexual urges… :hypno:
you name it…
this is called Expiation… “He is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness”
notice it not only mentions forgiveness but being cleansed from ALL unrighteousness…
human nature being what it is, we fight this process… but I’m thankful the Church gives us so many ways to expiate… (rosary… Masses… sacrifice… time spent @ the Real PResence… etc…)![]()
i don’t think we disagree… In the 1st part i said that we can work off some of our purgation… here on Earth… i probably should have added, though, that i don’t think many people work off ALL on Earth…***You’re point is valid, however it does not preclude the absolute need for Purgatory.
First because not everyone is going to do all that is necessary in this life to expetiate the latent effects of our sins.
Second, The latest PEW Report I saw about a year ago, stated that 10% or fewer Catholics are going to Confession even once a year. Clearly God is correct in having both Purgatory and Hell.
Love and prayer’s***
I’ve read that book…When you all decide to get serious about this original thread,
I suggest reading the RCC on Purgatory and Fr. F.X. Schouppe’s book - Purgatory.
It is not only eye-openning but very sobering as to the suffering of the poor souls in Purgatory.
You think you have suffering here on earth?..
Ok…I’ve read that book…
which is why i offer up every little suffering i cn think of in expiation of my sins…
hence the above…
might as well make light of such things… some sufferings never go away… whether you make light of them or not…
like having to get out of bed in the morning…
seriously…
When was the last time you even heard Purgatory mentioned in Church? Probably the reason why so few go to Confession…the Catholic Church seems to me to be “negligent” in not emphasizing how we can do our Purgatory (a lot of it, even all of it if we choose) by such things as offering up our daily sufferings to atone for our past sins (which have hopefully been sacramentally forgiven in Confession)…

a lot of things aren’t mentioned in homilies these days…When was the last time you even heard Purgatory mentioned in Church? Probably the reason why so few go to Confession…
I can understand the struggle with one’s sexual urges. I’m in my 40s and still single (the original 40-year old virgin, to be precise), but the desire is still there…:
I can relate to many of your sufferings. My condolences…Wow folks, I’ve read all the posts in this thread so far and would like to add my :twocents:.
On EWTN I’ve heard priests describe purgatory as being able to hear the music and smell the banquet, but not participate. It is a place for purification, a purging of the attachment to sin. I’ve heard it’s not all that awful. I’ve not read much about it…
, I’m not looking forward to purgatory; but I understand what the OP means and am grateful.![]()
I’m pretty sure you are considered a virgin still. The rape was something that happened without your consent. There is something mentioned to that extent in “The Mystery of Love for the Single”; that someone who is raped will still be considered to be a virgin because it was without consent.I’m not one… was raped when i was younger… otherwise i would be old and a virgin myself… (at least I’m alive… didn’t want to live after that happened… and then i found Jesus)…
When younger and even until recently, i was always wanting to be a nun… never thought i’d want to get married (never have either)… but since i’m not a virgin and have lived without “it” for something close to 100 yrs (well, seems like it…) & haven’t done the “self” thing…
well… my body, shall we say, is not too happy with me…
it wants what it wants… and wants it NOW!!
even so i feel that God has restored my virginity to some extent…![]()
Nope, I’m the real deal…are you really 40 something and a virgin? or just feel like one?
wish i could say the rape was the last time… but i used to be so uncatechized, so lost… without love… looking in all the wrong places… (still tend to do thatI’m pretty sure you are considered a virgin still. As for your body not being happy with you, build up gradually your own program of exercising and your body will smile.![]()
I’m one (in a million, probably). I’ve thought sometimes about being in a relationship, but it seems all the women I find myself attracted to are already married. Perhaps that’s God’s way of telling me He wants me to remain single…I think virgins may have a special place in heaven.
and i have yet to find any virgin men over the age of 30… (found one but wasn’t attracted to him…) In other words, there’s that double-standard thing…
Perhaps the virgin men aren’t easily found.
