I feel one thing that should be mentioned… and often, is that it is a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sunday (without a good reason). I didn’t know this until late in life. If i had known it, my life would have been very different… (etc)…

You know it now, and that’s great.👍

My choices would have to be:

The Real Presence… and…

Abortion, morality and life issues (contraception, etc.). The only place I seem to hear any discussion of this… is on EWTN. Or at this forum.

The people skipping Mass would miss that homily.

Hell.

Last week, Father talked about Hell and the gnashing of teeth and being frustrated and void of all God’s love. It was the best homily I’ve ever heard.

You beat me to it. 😃

I noticed this post as soon as it opened and wanted to mention Hell, but felt I was going to be backlash for mentioning hell.

I’m glad someone other than myself feels the same way.

The book “Hell and it’s Torments” by St. Robert Bellarmine is a good read and taught me a lot. I read it periodically every now and then.

Heh, I had the same hesitation. Thanks for the book recommendation, I’ve added it to my list of “must-reads”!

The fact that one should not receive the Eucharist if they are in a state of mortal sin. Especially at a wedding, or Holy communion where there are fallen away Catholics who come to celebrate with family and receive.

I would love to hear about the NEED for (not just availability of) the sacrament of reconciliation. Yes, Father, that means using the “s-word”. 😛

Yep, Hell’s on my list too. 🙂

Chastity–what it REALLY means, and why we ALL ought to practice it. (Not to mention how much good it would do in the world if we did!)

The dangers of cafeteria Catholicism

The slippery slope of relativism

Our pastor did actually touch on this last one once, he explained how the the word “rationalize” is really two words…rational lies. 👍

  1. dressing immodestly
  2. people leaving mass after communion
  3. The Blessed Mother
  4. Sins of Omission

Wow, I never thought of the word “rationalize” being those two words. I learn something new everyday.

It is my observation that many people who go to church go becuase they are supposed to but they don’t really know why they are supposed to and if you ask those people what is happeneing during various parts of the mass they really don’t know. I would like to have a homily where the different parts of the mass are explained and also why we attend in a manner that is understandable to the uneducated lay person.

I also would like a Priest to have the guts to talk about demons or house hauntings in a homily. Just to let people know what to do if they see a spirit. Very few people know what to do and this seeing ghosts thing is becoming more and more common. Just this past weekend one of my friends mom took a picture of a “spirit” in her house and was excited becuase it was her assumption it was an angel. This is a fairly dangerous assumption - but she has heard a priest talk about the good angels, never the bad. Yet the bad continues to exist even when we don’t talk about them.

I doubt this will ever happen

We have an awesome priest who puts a lot of work into his homilies. He gave one two weeks ago on contraception and sex. He claims that the expression on people’s faces was priceless when he let loose with the first words of his homily: “The Catholic Church is far less obsessed with your sex life than the media thinks it is.” Then he went on to talk about why sex is important and what it means for a Catholic. WOW.

Sin! What it is, how to avoid it, how much we all need confession; that even the Pope goes to confession.

Our deacon is a good man, his homilies are getting better. He usually preaches one Sun. a month. This last Sunday, he gave a fairly good homily, but ‘could’ have mentioned Sin since it fitted in right with what he was saying; the need for reform & I forget the details, honestly.😊 But when we came out of Mass, I said to my dh “I wish he would’ve just come right out and said – that’s called sin, and it keeps us apart from God and His Grace.” – or something to that effect.

I’ve asked our priest to use the phrase “Body, blood, soul & divinity” of Jesus as pertinent in homilies about communion, such as on Corpus Christi, but he has not. I only mentioned it once, and don’t want to be a “noodge”, but that was a few yrs ago. I’m feeling like I should get more of a “Church Militant” attitude more and more these days (in a good way, of course). 😃

God bless; pray the rosary!

nice2000,

I like your signature!

Previous to coming here, I was reading about the Consecration of Russia to Mary’s Sacred Heart, and was going to do a search, but perhaps you could email me

or

just send some posts from CA forum to read.
I think finding this thread was Providential. Interesting things have been happening lately…

Thanks in advance!

right… i have a gripe about those issues not being addressed also… then they wonder why Catholic use contraception… No one is speaking out from the pulpit against it…
