What is “the Spirit?” I know it’s an odd question, but what . . . exactly is to be considered the “spiritual realm?” Physical refers to this realm, which involves matter, energy, gases, etc. So what does the Church say is Spiritual? What does is truly mean to be “non-physical?”

The question is haunting me and I don’t like it, I feel like Satan is trying to entrap it into my skull to doubt the Faith, to fall into the heresy of “Scientism.” Please help. 😦

It depends on your perception of “spiritualism,” it could be God the Holy Spirit, it could be a more mystical entity beyond that, or it could be something as haunting as the wind or the rain.

As far as the Church is concerned, I’m pretty sure it’s God the Holy Spirit–to put it simply.

I highly doubt Satan is doing anything to you. Maybe it’s just your brain working too hard. Just relax and do some research on your Church; pray; meditate; attend church; whatever makes you comfortable again.

Spiritual means different things:
  • Immaterial, as in the spirits (angels)
  • Interior, as in the spiritual life
  • Christian, as in spiritualities
  • Divine, as in the Holy Spirit

True.

I think of it like this: **Spiritual **refers to when mankind talks of Heavenly things such as God, the Angelic, the human soul (given to mankind by God), Heaven, Purgatory and Hell.

The Lord God Almighty is without form, immaterial, and tottaly beyond the human race’s understanding. He is who He is, He exists because He exists.

Since we were created in His image then I’d say that the soul is immaterial and eternal as well. as what the Church teaches. I’ll admit, for the life of me I cannot grasp this meaning. What is it like to be seperated from the body in spirit, and to stand before the Lord for the particular judgment? Would it feel as though we were in another body, or is it something we just cannot grasp at this moment with our human mind?

You could also think of all the “Spiritual” things I listed like this (except God, whom is without beginning and uncreated) : anything that has been initionally and directly created by Almighty God in another realm of existence (the Angels, Heaven, Purgatory, Hell), more complex than anything among this physical universe and cannot nor ever can be detected by the natural sciences, not even when the “spiritual” things enter or already exist in this realm (Angels, the Human Soul).

Lol, ok, I guess I gave it a “scientific approach,” but there is another thread going on in CAF asking if Heaven is going to be part material and many say yes. To me, this makes sense to that which I have said. The Realm of the Spirit isn’t a ghostly place where we all just float around, nor will it be like the essence of God–without form and eternal, but rather is a **created **place by Almighty God for His creation, in another plain of existence unreachable from here, and where we can forever fall on our knees to our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hi Blade and Blood. I agree it could be the OP is just thinking too much. I also think though that if Angels are real, and can influence us, then it is also highly possible they could trouble our souls with such obsessive disturbing thoughts. Many thoughts as such could very well drive one away from the Faith, accepting the heresy which Dark Warrior called “Scientism.”

Again i’m not saying every single case is because of demonic influence, just some or even a great deal of them. If it’s possible they exist, then their distortion is also possible.
