Not sure what you mean. Joseph was unjustly imprisoned and killed by a mob which assaulted the jail he was in.
Hi

The only truthful testimony of a Messenger is God Allah YHWH ; it is He only who knows that He has sent a person for guidance or not; so a false Messenger is caused death by God Allah YHWH.

What Moses described a punishment for such a Messeger was in line with this inherent truth.

Quran has also confirmed this teaching of Bible in a subtle way. Are you interested in knowing that.

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna

Thanks

For Melanie and the others on that other thread, these are the “yahoos” I was referring to. See what I mean?
alright i made the yahoo squad! despite that title, i can easily refute any mormon claims with verifiable facts as i have for years here. stop the missionary efforts here and watch the “yahooing” disappear.

Joseph Smith did not go up on a mountain and come back with a book from an angel. You are such an expert on Mormonism!
Smith claimed an angel showed him where to dig for hidden golden plates, on a hill.

The result is the same, a claim that special scriptures were delivered by an angel.

He was arrested for inciting a riot, which occurred when the Expositor printing press was destroyed, on Smith’s order, for printing the truth about his polygamous affairs. Which up to that point, he had denied (lied).

He also was charged with treason, for declaring martial law and sending out his private army, the Nauvoo Legion.

His murder was a criminal act.

Why do you believe he was arrested?

I suppose to earn your respect, because you have insulted my prophet, I guess I should attack Mohammed, but I won’t because I am a Christian. We believe in peace. Your post is inconsistent.
You honor Jesus as a prophet, and yet he was killed as a criminal also.

I meant you no ill will - why would you attack Joseph in this way? Even if you do not believe he is a prophet, as I do not believe Mohammad is a prophet, there is no reason for your gratuitious attack.

You also say that Mohammad is the only true messenger and yet you also honor Krishna and Buddha. It is hard to imagine how you could get so many inconsistencies into so short a post.

You must feel threatened by my posts to be so aggressive. I am sorry you feel that way. I am not here as a missionary. You would only feel that way if my posts were threatening to you.

If I was posting about little green men on the moon, you wouldn’t think I was being a missionary because the post would not be threatening.

Prodigal? time for your moon man post! We have to be consistent don’t we?

actually i don’t mind your posts so much as zerinus. you have no idea how i feel. threatened is certainly incorrect. annoyed…maybe.all mormons participating in any public forum on religion are in missionary mode. i object to the deceit that usually flows from attempts to clarify mormon doctrine.
and actually if you were posting about BY comments on little green men on the moon i would still find you to be in full missionary mode. shall we discuss that then?

You should see the results when he clarifies Catholic doctrine over on the MAAD board.

** mfbukowski, Your post was directed to paarsurrey. I hope paarsurrey will not disrespect any one. But the point is, we heard that Joseph smith was killed in year 1851 A.D., soon after he claimed to be a messenger of God. That was too soon. If he had lived longer time and preached his philosophy, he could have been considered as a messenger. But he was killed soon. That was not good (for him) for his messengership / prophethood.

We read in the bibleOT that a false prophet will be killed (Deut 18:18). We have a verse in the Quran stating the same thing that if Muhammad was a false messenger, Allah would have killed him.

You said You honor Jesus as a prophet, and yet he was killed as a criminal also**

That is not true. All Muslims believe that Jesus was not killed on the cross. That is written in the Quran. take any sect of Muslims. All believe that Jesus did not die on the cross.

So Jesus is not a false prophet.

True. Joseph didn’t go to a mountain. He went into a grove of trees.
He claimed that THIS resulted in a visit, not from an angel, but from God Himself and His Son Jesus Christ.

The angelic visit that resulted in the Book of Mormon was the result of prayer in Joseph’s room, by his bedside.

I’ve been interested in this thread; in fact, this thread is why I joined the Catholic Answers forum. I have found this subgroup (the “non-Catholic Religions” forum) to be unusually courteous; Mormons aren’t treated very well in most forums. It is refreshing.

Now I have to ask: why is the question being asked in the first place? I mean, really–“What is the difference between Mormons and Islam?” The very asking of the question betrays a bias against Mormonism that is pretty obvious: Why are the two belief systems being compared in the first place? It is, after all, just as silly a question as asking what the difference is between the Lutherans and Islam–or between Catholicism and Islam. The basic difference is this: Islam bases its faith around, first, Allah (which is Arabic for ‘God,’ ) and second, around the teachings of a prophet Mohammad. It is not a Christian faith, and Muslims would be the first to tell you that it is not a Christian faith; they believe that Jesus, though He may have been the Jewish Messiah, was not the savior of anybody else; he is not the “Son of God” the way Christians believe Him to be, though as far as I know, they buy the virgin birth.

If a Muslim is reading this, please correct any error I may be making here.

Mormons base their belief system around the idea that Jesus Christ very much IS the Only Begotten Son of God, and that as He communicated with His apostles after He died and was resurrected, He still does.

Given the number of different Christian beliefs out there–including snake handlers, pentacostal revivalists, speakers in tongues and interpreters thereof, drinkers of poison, celibates (for everybody, not simply the priests), lifestyle differences that range from not dancing to you-name-it, it seems rather odd to me that it is only the Mormons who are being compared to Islam.

So again I ask; why?

Diana, newbie.

The difference between Mormons and Islam, I see is that Islam rejects a savior, but that Mormonism rejects the Trinitarian Formula. In Islam, Allah alone can forgive sins, since Allah is, but ONE God.
  • Islam - Allah alone
  • Mormons - Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit
The Simularities between Mormons and Islam, is that they had prophets that created a book, that seems to be more important than the bible. Would be an interesting year if the Mormons, and Muslims traded the Qur’an with the Book of Mormon for a day.

Mormonism is a step ahead of Islam, as the former teaches the Savior, and the other teaches that Jesus was only a prophet. The savior comes into play in many of the Near Death Experiences that I have studied over the years, and not Islam. There are Near Death Experiences, where Muslims meet the savior. One other thing is that I have never heard of Eternal Marriage or Baptisms For the Dead in any Near Death Experience.

The Ahmadiyya is to Islam, as Mormons are to Trinitarian Christians, both are way off center. Zerinus and Paarsurrey, are so very simular in their approach on this forum, with both preaching their religions.

I find it fascinating that there are many people that talk about Pre-Birth Experiences or Preexistence in their Near Death Experience, and that is talked about within Mormonism, but not in Christianity or Islam.

I crashed from mormonism, because I never saw in a single Near Death Experience, anything about Eternal Marriage, but the only match up with Mormonism and Near Death Experiences, is Pre-Birth Experiences, and that is another problem. Some NDEs talk about a preexistence of our spirit, but that is to not be found in Christianity or Islam, but in Mormonism.

Uhmn…Actually, Joseph was murdered in 1844, after he turned himself in, having been promised that he would be protected. Turns out, though, that the very militia that was supposed to have protected him formed a great part, if not most, of the 200 member mob that shot him.

The charges against him were: inciting a riot (though there was none…indeed, it might be charged that the Nauvoo Expositor was doing the inciting, since it’s first issue accused him of setting himself up as a king…a little hard to do when you are running for President…and called for people outside of Nauvoo to come in and kill Mormons.) and treason, for the crime of declaring marshal law; something that was well within his rights as mayor of the town, when threatened by militia attacks against the city.

The prevailing thought by historians is that the charges were formed with the express purpose of getting him somewhere so that he could be killed; the wilder and more serious the charges, the less likely he would be convicted, thus, the more likely that he would actually allow himself to submit to arrest.

It worked, obviously–though he himself didn’t want to do this; he knew what was likely to happen. His wife Emma talked him into going, and Brigham Young never forgave her for that.

Just a wee bit of history there…

Well, as far as I know, Islam doesn’t use the bible at all, so the Qur’an would be more important. However, the Mormons consider the Book of Mormon to be equal to the bible; it is to the bible what the New Testament is to the Old Testament, or what Matthew is to John; another Testament of Christ. Not more important by any means, but not less important, either.

As for your suggestion–well, if we were to trade scriptures for a day, the Muslims would have to take the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price and the Doctrine and Covenants. All WE would get is the Qur’an. I think that the Muslims might complain of an unequal exchange just by weight, if nothing else! 😉

That proves you are as ignorant about Mormonism as you are about the Bible. Joseph Smith was a prophet longer than Mohamed claimed to be! Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet when he was fourteen years old; and died when he was thirty eight, having accomplished his mission. That makes him a prophet for 24 years. Mohamed, according to Islamic histories, was forty when he was called to be a prophet, and died at the age of 63; that makes him a prophet for 23 years. One year less than Joseph Smith!

That is a ridiculous objection to bring. Many great prophets of the past have been martyred for God. You could argue the same for Mohamed. He died at 63, which is too early. According to tradition he was poisoned. If God loved him and wanted him to be his prophet, He could have made him live longer!

**You have shown weakness in your arguments as usual for the mormons. I only knew that Joseph Smith was killed in Year 1851 A.D. Perhaps it is right. No harm. According to you he started preaching his message at the very young age of 14. I am surprised and admit my ignorance about all this.
You win and I lose if Joseph Smith started his ministery at the age of 14. And I will agree that Deut 18:18 did not apply to him.

**Again another shot from you at Muhammad. You want to avoid the verse Deut 18:18 to be applied to Jospeh Smith. Then what use is that verse? It is particularly for the false prophets. How can Jospeh Smith get out and away from that punishment from God. It is God who told about that and it is the will of God which cannot be averted.

That does not apply to Muhammad who survived the intense powerful poison given by a Jewess. He survived and lived for three or four years, quite healthy life, even conquered Makkah after that and made many expeditions against the rascals/ enemies/ kafirs.

Had Muhammad died by the poison then verse Deut 18:18 would have applied to him too.**

My deepest apologies for the repeat: Joseph Smith Jr. was killed in June of 1844.

His visit to the grove, where he claimed to have been visited by God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, happened in the spring of 1820. He was fourteen.

Whether you could say that he began ‘his ministry’ at that time or not is a question, since he didn’t tell anybody but his family (and he didn’t tell them much) and one preacher at that time. The reaction of the preacher would have made any fourteen year old pause before telling anybody else about his theophany.

Not that this makes any difference one way or the other as to the truth of what he claimed; I’m simply pointing out very easily checked historical fact: the grove visit happened when he was fourteen, and he was killed in 1844, when he was all of 38.

which militia? there is some evidence that JS had called up the nauvoo legion to rescue him and thought they wold get there in time.
The charges against him were: inciting a riot (though there was none…indeed, it might be charged that the Nauvoo Expositor was doing the inciting, since it’s first issue accused him of setting himself up as a king…a little hard to do when you are running for President…and called for people outside of Nauvoo to come in and kill Mormons.) and treason, for the crime of declaring marshal law; something that was well within his rights as mayor of the town, when threatened by militia attacks against the city.
wow that ignores a lot of facts. i hardly think a mayor has the legal right to destroy a newspaper because it prints the true story of his adulterous affairs and coverup attempts. have you read that issue of the expositor?

solomonspalding.com/docs/exposit1.htm
you might want the more detailed account of what happened given by JS counselor william law:

1857massacre.com/MMM/danites_p22.htm

prevailing thought? according to who? many mormons were outraged at what JS had been doing. from those who were swindles out of land and money (like kirtland antibank fiasco) to those who were tired of him hitting on their wives and daughters. then there were the area nonmormons who felt threatened by rigdon’s salt of the earth speech, Js being anointed “king”, Js being general of one of the largest local militias in the US…JS was out of control and needed to be reigned in by the law. it is unfortunate that vigilantes (who may well have been mormons) shot him.
It worked, obviously–though he himself didn’t want to do this; he knew what was likely to happen. His wife Emma talked him into going, and Brigham Young never forgave her for that.
oh i think emmas issues with BY had a lot more to do with money since the RLDS (with emmas help) ended up with the copyright to JS bible translation, the kirtland temple and a few other choice bits of property.
Just a wee bit of history there…

might want to read more than just a wee it and get the story straight.

nobody really knows when/if the grove visit took place as multiple accounts have been found that vary greatly on this. none were published until many years later and the only one written in josephs own hand certainly isn’t even close to what is currently published. the only “fact” we have here is when he died. even so should we compare him then to jim jones and david koresh to see which self proclaimed restorationist “prophet” carried out his ministry the longest before a violent death?
