 How can a Church live in your heart?

Church is the external expression of our faith, when we assemble with others who are of like mind. It’s not something we can do by ourselves “in our heart.”
I agree that the church is corporate. It seems modern day Christianity created a false lone ranger effect which I become guilty of myself. I believe our churches need to be more universal and historical (focusing on redemptive history of the remnant found in each and every generation).

Sorry that none of you understand what I meant. Jesus is the Church and He is in my heart. I am not complying to a lone ranger effect.

The concept is not of sin being totally eradicated (that is to claim too much) or merely counteracted (that is to say too little), but of a divinely wrought character change freeing us from sinful habits and forming in us Christlike affections, dispositions, and virtues.
Why, if man was created not to sin-and God certainly did not create him for that purpose-is it asking too much for sin to be totally eradicated? In fact, why wouldn’t this be God’s aim all along? And if sin is to be merely counteracted, when, if ever, is Gods will done? When Does God get what He’s always desired-creation and man in the ordered state He created them in-accomplishing the purposes He’s created them for? We have to ask, would God really create man, give him commandments He knew man couldn’t live up to, and then blame him for not living up to them?

In case you are curious…

So do you not think by surrendering my heart to God the Father to be changed and submissive to His will, the Gospel in a nut shell so to speak, is good enough to be a Christian Hedonist?OOOh:eek: Carlan

Do you agree that the Church is the foundation and pillar of truth?

I think you are fine tweetymom. I believe modern day Christianity has taken the personal relationship too far, making the Christian Faith to be a subjective personal experience as compared to a corporate one. Of course, it all depends on our Christian circles that we are in. The Catholic Church is a good model for a coporate body to a certain extent. My comment was not directed to you personally, but my fallible observation of our generation of Christianity.

My answer is federal headship, or humanity having two representatives in the person of Adam and the person of the 2nd Adam. Please see Rom 5.

On other threads, I believe most Catholics agreed that man’s primary purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

Christian hedonism just changes this to - glorify God BY enjoying Him forever. I think you are on your way to becoming a Christian hedonist. It’s a difficult road for all of us, because we all create idols of our hearts in this world.

There is a difference between “Justification” and “Sanctification” according to the scriptures. Agreed?
“Sanctification is an ongoing transformation within a maintained consecration, and it engenders real righteousness within the frame of relational holiness. Relational sanctification, the state of being permanently set apart for God, flows from the cross, where God through Christ purchased and claimed us for himself (Acts 20:28; 26:18; Heb. 10:10). Moral renovation, whereby we are increasingly changed from what we once were, flows from the agency of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:13; 12:1-2; 1 Cor. 6:11, 19-20; 2 Cor. 3:18; Eph. 4:22-24; 1 Thess. 5:23; 2 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 13:20-21). God calls his children to sanctity and graciously gives what he commands (1 Thess. 4:4; 5:23).”
HelloCr8ton, Grace par Excellence is salvation and justification. God makes man just free from sin and pleasing to him through grace, grace attested to by faith. The just man is one who is virtuous and faithful to God and who does the will of God.

Some Protestants do not believe that salvation and justification is an on going gift of grace but that it is a once only gift received when they first announce their belief in Jesus and that it cannot be lost.
I am reminded of the danger of presumption.

What a prcious gift we have in Jesus.:)Carlan

Re: What is the Gospel?

Gospel - evangelion - good news

Mark 1:14-15 "Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.”

Sounds like the good news (gospel) is the arrival of the kingdom of God.🤷

In some sense, sure. But in the Catholic sense, no. If I did, I would be Catholic. 😉
Well Adam, 1Tim.3:15 Says the Church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of truth.
The Church has remained one, holy, catholic, and apostolic-not through man’s efforts, but because God preserves the Church he established, (Matt.16:18,28:20)
In this age of countless competing religions, each clamoring for attention, one voice rises above the din: the CAtholic Church, which the Bible call “the pillar and foundation of truth”.👍 Carlan

great news isn’t it?

Please elaborate.

In what sense is the Church the pillar and foundation of the truth?
The church is the body of Christ, and Christ is the head.

Wives and Husbands
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. [1] 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. - Ephesians 5
