What is the Gospel?

The Gospel is: man is sinful and unable to obtain the righteousness God demands on his own. God sent Christ into the world to be a “once for all” perfect sacrifice to God to satisfy God’s justice which also show’s God’s love for his creation and Christ’s submission to the will of the Father. By faith and belief in Christ and what he has done, and God knows who has true faith, God imputes our sins to Christ which he paid on the Cross and imputes his righteousness (not that we are all as righteous as Christ but in regard to our guilt of sin, God sees us as he sees Christ) to us. In Christ, there is hope for an eternity with the Trinity and eternal rewards. We become new creations in Christ, are set free from the control of the sinful Flesh, and with the Holy Spirit within us, enable us to live lives that honor God and grow in Christlikeness for the rest of our lives. What a glorious message!

An important key to the Gospel is that Christ is the only way. And Christ is the stumbling stone to many and foolishness to many others.

The Great Exchange found in 2 Cor 5:21 🙂

Do Catholics and non-Catholics have different ideas about the Gospel message?
Let’s find out.
Jesus is the head of the Church, His Bride.

He’s also the Good Shepherd, isn’t He? 🙂
Hey Randy,

Thanks for starting the great thread called “What is the Gospel”.

Could you please post your answer to your own question of “what is the gopsel” for everyone to read. 😉

And BTW… not all Protestants believe in the secrete rapture. 👍

The church is the body of Christ, and Christ is the head.

Wives and Husbands
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. [1] 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. - Ephesians 5
So . . . in what sense is the church the pillar and foundation of truth?

Gee, the Four Spiritual Laws told me that
  1. I am a sinner
  2. I am separated from God
  3. There is nothing I can do to reach God
  4. Jesus is the answer
But there are variations on this I guess…just today a Bible Church pastor I met gave me a copy of a little booklet, “Steps to Peace with God” put out by Billy Graham which states:
  1. God loves me
  2. I’m separated from God and my attempts to reach God fail
  3. The Cross is the Bridge
  4. I must receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior by personal invitation
There’s even a little prayer in the back that I can pray, and a place for me to sign and date the booklet.

Isn’t that the Gospel? 🙂

Yes, yes Adam we know that. But can we get you to stop running around the bush and answer the question plain and simple like. You know it,you have had all night to check it out. Since you ignored what my post said and what other posters asked.

So . . . in what sense is the church the pillar and foundation of truth? Carlan

I’m not into handing out tracts like the Four Spiritual Law which I believe came from Bill Bright. Nor, do I probably agree with it. I’m not sure if I agree with “Steps to Peace with God” too, because I do not think that the statement of “God loves me” is a correct statement for the unbeliever in the way the two tracts imply. Does God really love the unbeliever? The last I read, unbelievers are called children of darkness, children of wrath, children of disobedience, children of Satan, and vessels of wrath. Unbelievers are calling God a liar in their unbelief.

The bibilcal position is that the wrath of God is being revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men. There is only bad news for those who are not in Christ.

Since you believe you now have the Fullness of Truth converting from Protestant to Catholic, and you started this wonder thread called “What is the Gospel”… please try again. So, what is the Gospel according to my brother Randy Carson?

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

Sorry my brother, your question is not the thread topic. Because the question of “what is the gospel” is the most important question for Christians and unbelievers alike, let’s stay very close to the thread topic. Please feel free to start another thread about the Church being the pillar of truth.

Do you folks see what is happening here?

This non-Catholic Christian is dissatisfied with the presentation of the Gospel by Billy Graham and Bill Bright (founder of Campus Crusade for Christ), two of the giants of Christian evangelism in the 20th century if not of all time. Graham has singlehandedly preached before more people than anyone in history.

But that is not enough, apparently. 🤷

Does it make sense now as to why I refuse to to be judged by Yankee_drifter, Moondweller or any other Bible Christian regarding the gospel that I preach?

Please don’t put words in my mouth. I am not against Crusades. However, decisional regeneration presentations can be dangerous in that it can give many a false assurance that they are really united to Christ. Bill Bright and Billy Graham both come from an Arminian slant which can be traced to what Charles Finney brought to the table of Evangelism. Do you really believe that all who walk the stadium isle and recite a sinner’s prayer are saved? I had a very good friend who did the follow up calls for the Graham crusades with those who walked the isle at a Billy Graham crusade. And many who did the sinner’s prayer do not show the marks of a converted Christian months later. I used to go door to door with a Calvary Chapel team handing out the Four Spiritual laws and know that presentation of “God loves you and has a plan for your life”.

Now, back to the thread topic, what is the gospel according to my brother Randy Carson. It’s your OP question; therefore, I think you should answer your own question for the record. BTW, please see post 2 for my answer to your question.
The gospel is simple enough for a child to understand and at the same time, the gospel is so glorious that we can never exhaust the depths of it in awe and wonder. The gospel is God’s great news that we proclaim to all men in what God has done for us in Christ. The gospel is like a diamond where we can gaze at different aspects of it, and treasure it deep down in our hearts, soul, and mind for all eternity. What kind of love is this that my God would die for me so I can live? The gospel in a nutshell is 2 Corinthians 5:21 together with John 3:16. In the gospel, we find the perfect righteousness of God which is required to dwell with God forever and forever.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith. - Apostolic Truth

:bigyikes: I recall you being called out more than once for refraction of the rule. You have been rather well known for using the tactic as a dodging tool . So I guess we all deserve the admonition. Practice what you preach! Carlan

How is that not on the thread topic? You would agree that the gospel, in your definition of it, is truth, correct?

Do you disagree that this is the gospel of God as proclaimed in the Scriptures?

Do you guys believe that the gospel of God is the Catholic Church? I’m just trying to understand what you guys are saying. It seems I’m getting a mixed message from different Catholic Christians. What exactly is the gospel according to the Catholic Church?

I’m just talking about you calling Carlan’s (and my) question off topic. Do you believe the gospel (as you define it) is truth?

Of course I do. Do you agree with my understanding of the gospel? Or, do you believe that it is a different gospel than what you hold to?

I’ve stated before, in this thread, what I believe the gospel to be. Needless to say, we both believe that the gospel is truth. So therefore, discussing the Church as the foundation and pillar of truth would be relevant to this thread, since it would directly impact the gospel.
