I would have to disagree with that. The gospel means good news. In the Bible, there is terrible terrible news for those who are not in Christ. The wrath of God is being revealed against those who supress the truth (Rom 1) through Sacred Scripture which is really bad news. The 2nd coming of Jesus Christ is horrible news for those who are in Adam.

The conversation between God and the human race began when Adam walked with God in the garden of Eden. Adam cut off communication with God by sinning. God has been answering Adam’s sin by means of many Covenants - the covenant with Noah, the covenant with Abraham, and the covenant with Moses. But, human beings kept on breaking these covenants.

So, God made a final, unbreakable covenant in HIs own person, by coming to the earth, establishing His Church, and dying for our sins on the Cross. The covenant was ratified when He then rose again from the dead in HIs human body, thus uniting forever the human and divine natures into His person, eternally. We as Catholics partake in this divine mystery every time we receive Holy Communion, when we take the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ into our own bodies.

The whole of humanity will share in this divine unity on the Last Day, when Jesus comes to judge the world.

Question: What is the gospel?

Answer: God is the gospel

Christ died for us to bring us to God. That’s the botton line good news. If we have God, then nothing else compares with Him. What else is there? Heaven is a place to worship God, rejoicing in God, glorifying God, and enjoying Him forever. That is the purpose of why we were created. God is the gospel!

Please tell your piano teacher that the gospel shoud be expanded to 10 words. 😉

Jesus Christ died for you to bring you to God.

Or, we can reduce the gospel to four words.

God is the gospel.

I agree with you with 1 Cor 15… that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures. 👍

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, - 1 Cor 15
 
The Gospel is God’s perfect way [sending His Son, Jesus Christ to die sacrificially on the cross for our (the elect’s) sins] of connecting an imperfect nature [humans] to Himself [perfect nature] that we may love Him, glorify Him, know Him, humble ourselves before Him, become more like Him, worship Him, trust Him, fellowship with Him, serve Him, have joy in Him, be dependent on Him, obey Him and live with Him forever.

Resulting in…

The best possible reality that a created being [us] could experience forever [without limit or duration]

Hello Prodigalson, I’m afraid that will only happen if the Protestants visiting CA come with open minds sincerely wishing to learn about our faith and understanding the reasons why we believe in the truths of our doctrines. If after sharing with us they can’t accept what we believe,fair enough .I don’t believe they should come with the idea of proselytizing? Carlan

Yes Adam , lesson #one right out of my Baltimore Catechism. God created us to know him, to love him and to serve him in this life so that we can be happy with him forever in heaven. What’s next?😉 Carlan

I think all sound doctrine should ultimately bring us to God in which we begin to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Do you seem to agree?

If we know God and live to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, where can you go from there? God is the gospel! I’m not sure if there is a next, do you?

Have you heard of the phrase of “Christian hedonism”?

The gospel is God’s revelation pertaining to salvation history. Jesus Himself is that revelation, and He started a Church to guide and protect His message!
