Participating in the celebration of the Holy Mass is the greatest prayer there is. With Jesus we offer His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity along with ourselves to God. He then showers us with His Grace - how much we receive depends on how well we have prepared for and participated in the Liturgies.

Do we spend time before Mass in Prayer?
Do we speak the our responses out loud?
Do we sing?can’t sing-do we hum the melody?
Do we listen to the reading from the OT, NT and the Gospel?
When we make our 3 little crosses on the forehead, lips, and heart do we really think about their meaning?
Do we listen to the homily and try to keep a nugget to ponder on?
Do we listen and participate in the Eucharistic Liturgies?
Do we receive Holy Communion while in a state of Grace or in mortal sin? (fornication, ABC, missing Mass without a good reason, etc.)
Do we spend time after Communion to thank Our Lord for His Gifts?
Do we spend time in prayer after Mass in Eucharistic Adoration?
Are we quiet and courteous at all times in church?
Do we genuflect in front of the Tabernacle when we enter and leave the building?
Do we pray for peace on earth, the release of the souls in purgatory, all our baptised christians and all peoples everywhere?
Do we beg the Lord to be mindful of the poor, those that are sick and the dying.? Those in prison, the lonley, the outcasts of society?
Do we beg for mercy for all our sins and ask for the strength to resist Satan and all sin?

The Holy Mass is Prayer at its finest-I pray we all strive to pray It to the best of our ability

Jesus is present in the Word. He is there as Victim and as Priest and in the communion of saints-Praise God! Alleluia, Alleluia!i

So no one has heard the phrase, “confect the Eucharist”?
Confecting the Eucharist is something done during the Mass but is not equvalent to the entire prayer of the Mass. The original question refers, I believe, to the verb for the full scope of the Mass.

I hope you are being sarcastic! Some people might not know this “Sister” and think her views are legitimate. 😦

I hear “saying Mass” a lot, but in the old days 😃 it was “offering” because the priest offers the sacrifice, in persona Christi, to the Father.
LIGHTEN UP!!!😛

I don’t think he was serious in quoting Joani C. No Catholic could take her seriously. She is good for laughs and indulgences by praying for her conversion to Catholicism.

Just like I find the National Catholic Reporter to be pretty useful.

I can use it to start a fire, line the bottom of a birdcage or paper mache projects.

God Bless

OK Gotcha!🙂

Joan Chichester is a heretic so posting something in oppostion to her is not a reason to Lighten up! (as you put it)😦
I’m not a fan of Sr. Joan Chittister, but as far as I know she is a Catholic sister in good standing. Unless you are her religious superior or bishop, I don’t think it’s your place to brand her a heretic.

By the way, if you’re going to call someone names, it would look better if you spelled her name correctly.

I saw in a book recently, discussing the extraordinary form in the “old days”–the phrase: “read Mass”. Has anyone ever heard that one?

My bad! I spelt her name wrong, Tsk Tsk silly me.

Joan Chittister (is that better?) stands against the church, in my view that makes her a heretic, You don’t like that too bad!😃
I can think of so many replies to this, and not one of them is appropriate on Divine Mercy Sunday. Instead I think it’s time to unsubscribe from this thread.

I would suggest rather than count the faults and erroneous views of the Sister, we pray for her. We ask that GOd have mercy on her and pray that she converts her will to the faith.
She still is alive and has time to repent and become Catholic. We need to pray for her and ask that God give her the grace to submit to the Church.
Mercy also involves the charity to seek the best for others and not ignore their faults, but not push them down for their faults either. I believe we should just pray for her and support good.

Now back to the thread, I believe it should be celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass or as others have said offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Two good ways to express what only a Priest can do.

God Bless
