What is the sin with the worst (long-term) consequences (to the soul)?

I have been wondering about this for some time…

not sure what my answer is yet… they all seem SO bad…:hypno::hmmm:

Any sin can be forgiven by God except the sin that rejects God.

^ I agree. Nothing is worse than not wanting to be forgiven.
 
It does not matter one bit to me… Let me fix my eyes and mind on the Eucharist. I am content with that. 🙂
 
I say other mainly because a glaring majority of what you listed can be listed under the simple label of lust.

Hatred for others though isn’t something you can condemn so easily when you suddenly find someone whose hatred you sympathize with.
 
well, the question was, what has the worst consequences on the soul,
i think the answer to that is pride, being the root of all sin, all sin being some form of pride or being caused by pride,
and also disobedience, which is the direct cause of sin, when we sin we are doing it out of disobedience to God(whether it’s to God Himself, or our superiors/guardians who God also tells us to obey)

but in regards to what sins are most ruining to the soul, i would definitely say sins of the flesh, it was revealed by the Blessed Mother at Fatima to Lucia that sins of the flesh send more souls to hell than any other sin, and we also know by the writings of the saints that sins of the flesh are the hardest to overcome and the most shameful in the eyes of God, and no other sin warps and twists our minds like sins of the flesh do…well, when done willingly anyways, i don’t think people who are trying to be pure will get that way.
sins of the flesh include impure actions, thoughts, touches, gazes, desires, what we speak or hear,
it’s a sin that we really have to guard ourselves from most carefully, especially now when our society literally encourages sins of the flesh onto us as normal and natural…

I’d say indifference or apathy in spiritual and moral matters. While not necessarily the most grave sin it does have the worst long term concequences on a soul.
 
I thought the most important was to love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Then the second most important is to love your brother. 🤷

I agree. I think a better question for this thread would be “What actions have the best long-term consequences to the soul?” All this emphasis on hell and damnation is one of the things which drove me (and many others, I suspect) to leave the Church!
 
Well I think the worst sin is hypocrisy. Jesus pronunced woe’s on hypocrites but embraced everyone else.

I didn’t say it’s a way to avoid hell and damnation. All I can do in that area is to love God and love my neighbor. Leaving the Church is simply a way of freeing myself from what I’ve come to perceive (thanks in no small part to discussions like this one) as a sad, intensely legalistic faith that’s overly focused on matters of hell and damnation.
 
Mortal sin.
I would say the most dangerous would be the seven capital sins:

Pride, Covetousness, Envy, Sloth, Anger, Lust, and Gluttony

The sin that is the most dangerous is the sin of pride. It is the sin which was the reason for the fall of satan and his allies. No one can beat satan in pride. All other sins stem from some sort of pride, rather than humble trust in God.

I’m glad u said that last thing, because just saying something unsavory against God is not the unforgivable sin… altho it is strange someone would do that & their soul is not in a good condition… :eek: if they can do such a thing…

anyway, the unforgivable sin is, as u say, rejection of God, specifically rejection of Christ, who is the only Forgiveness for Sin…

or another way to put it is… the u/forgivable sin is to not live truth…

to reject truth is the ultimate rejection of Crhist…

some people follow truth… but are not Christians… altho if they truly follow truth they will find Him… at least not reject Him…

anyway… i believe that’s why Jesus said that most people don’t make it… that few “find the narrow road” to Heaven… they don’t want 2 accept & live truth… (otherwise known as Jesus)…

actually, if a person following Christ commits some sexual sin, it is far worse than a person not having been so committed doing it… that’s my opinion…borne of experience… because what was once holy (the sou) is now desecrated…

mabye that is why i am SO against ever entertaining the thoght to self- gratify…(been alone for many, many yrs…) I haven’t done that sin in many yrs but am tempted by the desires of the body… .& sometimes the mind but mostly the body… I know i will never commit this sin again… because i know what it can do in separating me from Jesus:eek::eek: :(. when u love someone you do not want 2 offend or separate yourself from that someone… and of course, no one loves u like Jesus… 🙂

its interesting these r called the seven cap sins… & yet Mary (and my experience) tells us that sexual sins get peple to Hell more than other sins… 2nd to that is sins agianst charity…

but i guess the 7 capitals can get us on the road 2 those sexual sins…

the pride that says its OK to masturbate, for example… because… “God gave me this body w/ its desires & surely He wouldn’t want me 2b deprived…” or whatever… The old"I know better than the Church" thing…

anyway… probably could have found other examples… but running out of time… as usual… :rolleyes:
