Not so fast!Vatican II was a purely pastoral council; though, “Oecumenical,” it issused nothing “De Fide.” And such in its character is NOT binding of any teaching, etc. The only thing it does is ***prescribe pastorally ***. And as such there’s nothing that a Catholic is required to believe from Vatican II. Most can go about their daily lives without being very much concerned about it.
It’d be best to pray for Vatican II’s suppression and the full re-institution of the Tridentine Mass [whether in the Vernacular or Latin].
Archbishop Lefebve believed the same thing – that one can disregard Vatican II’s teachings because they’re pastoral allegedly non-binding. Pope Paul VI told him in no uncertain terms that that wasn’t the case: “You cannot invoke the distinction between dogmatic and pastoral in order to accept certain texts of the Council and to refute others. Certainly, all that was said in the Council does not demand an assent of the same nature; only that which is affirmed as an object of faith or truth attached to the faith, by definitive acts, require an assent of faith. But the rest is also a part of the solemn magisterium of the Church to which all faithful must make a confident reception and a sincere application” (Nov. 10, 1976).
