Thank you, feel kinda of vulnerable put my neck out like that. But I have a good teacher. He is merciful and loving, Tim

What a beautiful child.
Thank you. God does beautiful work.

You know, sometimes when you see so much devastation and so much sadness, there is nothing left but to trust in the providence and love of our Father and humbly submit ourselves to His Plan.

OCD has been a big one for me.
Wow. That is actually a good way of looking at it: A cross.
🙂

I believe everyone is addicted to some thing or another. I grew up in a family that was addicted to negativity. They couldn’t/ can’t seem to say anything good or positive or loving about anyone (except maybe to a person’s face maybe once a year… but behind the person’s back… Yikes! ).
Anyway… i believe all addictions come from not being well-grounded in the love of God. I mean, if we all really, truly KNEW how much God loves us (through Christ), we would not need those things that seem so needed (?), yet are so harmful to us…
I’ve been a Christian all my life, a devout one for several years… and yet i still frequently put the things of this world over God, albeit subconsciously, unintentionally… As a human being it is hard to always put God first (detach from the things of the world)…
**I really like what you said here.
Depending on how we understand the word “addiction,” I tend to agree with you. Some addiction professionals certainly argue that we are all addicted to something, whether or not we know it. (Others in our lives may or not be aware of the particular addiction.) Having a format for taking a daily inventory of ourselves can assist us in beginning to address what we seem powerless over and is making our lives, to some degree, unmanageable. Negativity certainly is obvious but probably symptomatic of something more basic related to feelings of personal worth and, as you say, not really knowing the love God has for each of us. More later…

I think everyone has a cross. Mine was a bad marriage. It left me with a permanent STD, and feelings of loneliness and trust issues that will be with me till I die. So I trust in God - He has never failed me.

Whereas this thread focuses on the singular question, “What is your cross?” I wonder about “What are your crosses?” While we might identify one significant cross, I wonder if we carry multiple crosses over our live span. It seems like some “crosses” appear or develop over the years and may remain while others may be removed.

That’s an awful lot to go through in even a whole lifetime, much less a few years. I know something of what it feels like, since i have also gone through too much, too fast.
I don’t have time to write a long Post but thanks for sharing and i will keep you in my prayers.
You have been crucified by life… So, even while i am sure you don’t feel too “blessed” most of the time, you are blessed in one powerful way: You know how overwhelmed (etc) Jesus must have felt… on the Cross.
God bless…

My cross is adulthood I hate it with all the passion I have within me and then some. When I was a kid life was awesome. Then adulthood came and ravaged it from me. Jealiousy is annother cross. I see a post in the vocations forum and see “I am accepted and yada yada yada” I look at the profiles and they are only 19 or something here I am in my late mid 30s and I am pushed away from all the diocese I talk to. I am jealious of people younger than me that got what I want as far as success it gets to where I hate them for it. I used to love golf then Tiger Woods came along and ruined it for me 4 years younger and 10000 times richer. I have as much talent as he but in a different way (musician) and I can’t even pay my rent. Then I see some of you guys and thank God he didn’t give me some of those crosses. I just hate age and I hate when someone says “there isn’t anything you can do but accept it” I don;t and will not accept it. Just need more faith to move that mountain. I also have allergies that I really hate and destest. When someone complains about the sniffing I come unglued. Anger is another cross I have to bear. Scoob.
I’m reminded of some old parable about one’s cross being bigger than others only to find that the cross one had been carrying all along was just right. It would be easy to pick out solutions and analyses for your situation. I’m sure you’ve heard it all before. Instead, because I’ve been there with adulthood crashing into my youth and put me through the wringer, I will remember thee frequently in my prayers. If I can do it with the help of God’s grace, then so can you.🙂

While I am capable of the same range of emotions as everyone else, they come sparingly.

I’m not happy, nor sad, nor violent, nor joyful. Nor so many other things. Every day I lie to either my parents, my husband or my child when I say I love them. So I avoid that topic all together.

Being frightened and distrusting of humans is my cross. i am not sure enough to post my story. Perhaps some day i will. My struggle is great. i have never been the type to stomp my feet and say no fair. Never once have i placed blame on God. For He has been the only one who i ever trusted, the only one who has ever touched me (lovingly). He is my Mother, my Father, my friend, my All. Now, it seems my eyes have been open and i do want to learn good things from humans. i do want to date, get married. i just am too frightened. Does it make me a bad Catholic to want things from a human? Am i saying that God has not been enough? i want to stop the pain. i know that God has been placing humans in my path lately. i do not want Him to be angry with me, that i am frightened.

Chyna, There is no doubt the world is a minefield. But we need to help clear the mines. Start small, picking yourself up when you fall. Learn from your mistakes and always trust, turn back to the Lord in the sacraments. When it gets to much, just ask Him for help. Admit your human and can’t fight everything without His help. I’m so spiritually dumb and cowardly, I have to relearn almost everything, but the Lord is a great teacher. Take those first steps. Tim

Tim,

Thank you for your time.

Trusting God is not a problem. My biggest problem is that i can not see God in Humans. i would NEVER treat another human as i have been treated. i would NEVER hurt on purpose! i HAVE learned not to look for the good in humans, that was my error, i learned this one the hard way.

i have not found that mark on my forehead that states “step here”. Or that one that says kick me here, on the side of my body. i have tried very hard to see it myself, but can not.

With all this said, how do i start? i am more than cautious, i do not try. It has always been safer to be alone, away from human. i DO want to learn from a human, GOOD things, no more bad. However when one’s eyes have been opened, then what? How? How do i get clean (from the something that happened to me)?
Have i now said that God is not enough? That my wanting to date, is this bad? i told myself that he is my All, yet i want to marry?

Until last year I would have said being overweight and a skin condition (and laundry-hey I have several kids). I have been so blessed. I have 5 children from 1 yr to 10 years old. DH has a good job so I can stay home and homeschool. We don’t like our location, but that’s where God put us. Still, by most standards we are doing pretty well.

Then last March my fourth child, Gabriel Isaac, drowned in our pool. He was 2 years old and was still nursing. Many of you prayed fervently for us and we are eternally grateful.
This is one cross that you think you can never bear before you receive it and desparately want to give back once you have it.

God has been so good. In His wisdom, He had already planned for our healing and hope. At the time of Gabriel’s death, I was 6 months pregnant with now 1 year old Cecilia Therese. She was born on Father’s Day last year which was also Corpus Christi. She looks just like him.

After reading that i realize i haven’t been given any crosses.

My prayers to your family.

Tim,

. My biggest problem is that i can not see God in Humans.
Chyna
Me neither. Well, that’s not accurate. I can see God in them, but not Jesus Christ (who is God, of course)…
It’s because they aren’t committed to Christ… whole-heartedly… 😦

Did you hear the joke about the 2 priests. One of them asked the other: “Why are the lenses in your glasses so thick??” And the other priest said, “I strained my eyes trying to see Jesus in other people.” 😃

Amen… Easy to say, hard to do…

The best way to take personal inventory is to sit with Jesus at the Blessed Sacrament. I can’t speak for anyone else but when i am there, i am shown all what’s wrong within and without (my circumstances)… and at the same time, Jesus makes it all… well, he takes it and makes it the way He wants it to be… if/when i allow him to… This reminds me of a scripture in Isaiah (I think its 53 or 55??). But then i am also reminded of another one - don’t know where it is but it says that only those who do the will of the Father will enter Heaven…
The one in Isaiah describes the coming of Jesus and then at the end it says: “…And the will of God will be accomplished through HIm.” [and only through Him…]
God bless… 🙂
