  1. HIM (need I say more?!)
  2. Green Day (even though they’re on the pro-abortion list)
  3. The 69eyes (…yeah you can tell already. Listen to “Sister of Charity”)
  4. Aiden
  5. CKY (Don’t wanna know what that stands for)
  6. The Bloodhound Gang (don’t listen to their lyrics)
  7. Avenaged Sevenfold
  8. AFI
  9. Cradle of Filth (heaviest band I listen to)
 (though likely not for the same reasons everyone else flipped out)

Come on, let’s see some real goth stuff! 😛

Joy Division
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Nick Cave (with or without the Bad Seeds… hi Nevarlander!)
Gene Loves Jezebel
Sisters of Mercy (saw them live recently, and they’re still great… and still not goth if you know what I mean)
The Swans
David Bowie
The Empire Hideous
Bella Morte
Project Pitchfork

That is goth.
and if you’re taking me seriously you’re also not goth so there!

I wasnt going to chime in but since you did, I felt it was my zooropian duty to say, yea . . . . U2

then Third Day, The Violet Burning and Neil Young

🙂
YES! Someone else likes The Violet Burning!👍

Let’s see: also Iona, King’s X, and the early Big Country (so sad, how they ended)😦

Anyone else like Sigur Ros?

I have no idea who any of those bands are, anyway. 😉

Yes, Sisters of Mercy are so not goth. I had an idea a while back of, if I made Paradise Lost: The Movie, Andrew Eldritch being Lucifer and Tony Jay (voice only) God the Father. But then I remembered Tony Jay was dead. 😦 Sisters of Mercy are a yay, and David Bowie. Not not goth or goth myself, or any flavor.

Never thought of Joy Division as goth myself; more like New Wave. Why is it they get classed in the former so often?

By the way, Mirdath, who did the “The Lost Boys” theme? (If I have to explain the joke to you, I’m going to be really sad.)

Eldritch isn’t a bad pick for Lucifer, but you could do better. I might go with Myke Hideous (if you like the Sisters, definitely check out The Empire Hideous).

There is a lot of overlap – Echo and the Bunnymen and Soft Cell also kinda straddle the line. Way I see it, Joy Division sound and feel more like Bauhaus or even Siouxsie than the Talking Heads, so there go they.

I haven’t seen the movie :o Apparently it’s often misattributed to the Sisters, though – a bit like how every German hard rock band is mistaken for Rammstein, perhaps?

Okay, and now I’m thinking about guilty pleasures I don’t usually admit to: The Cars, The Police, Blondie, and The Psychedelic Furs. (Ignore all the rip-off “Collected Greatest Hits” of the Psych. Furs and go straight for their TRUE greatest hits collection: “All of This and Nothing.”)

Looking over these groups, I seem to be stuck in the 80s.

Oh, yeah, another one: Hendrix.

Where’s Bauhaus? You can’t forget them.

Some folks listed Johnny Cash, so I want to slip  Julie Miller in here, too.

Don’t know about the joke but The 69eyes did a version of Lost Boys. Just thought I’d say that.

I know! I just don’t like them as much as the rest on that list. They’re better as the Sinister Ducks with Alan Moore.

Actually I’m missing a bunch – Echo and the Bunnymen, the Legendary Pink Dots, Clan of Xymox, Switchblade Symphony, Leaether Straep, the Dresden Dolls, Deine Lakaien, Rasputina, Voltaire, Razed in Black, the Damned (although they mostly kinda suck), Killing Joke, The Cure (urgh), Mission UK, the Cruxshadows, Christian Death (watch me get flamed for mentioning that), Qntal, COIL, Skinny Puppy, Tear Garden, Cabaret Voltaire, Paralysed Age, Nosferatu… and that’s just a start in the US/UK scene.

Yes, I’m so gother than thou it hurts. I cry tears of blood. Black blood.

😛

The funny thing is, I listen to punk rock and shoegaze more often 🤷

Do you like Sisters of Mercy? That’s another band I like and might get flamed for myself.

I like Julie Miller and her husband, Buddy, as well.
I like Buddy, but really I like best what he’s done as back-up for Julie’s solo recordings. She’s one of the few Contemporary Christian artists (others would be Iona, Violet Burning, and that might be about it) who actually make me WANT to be a better Christian.

Isn’t it a comment on CCMusic that all of her early recordings are out of print and just about impossible to find?

anyone here a fan of mewithoutYou’s lastest “Brother, Sister” its the best new album i’ve heard in a long time

They sound very Catholic… anyone know if they are?

(if you haven’t heard of them yet get the album… its amazing!)
