My neighbour was showing me how the sparrows were taking pieces out of broccoli plants.
Your goldfinches are more golden than our introduced ones here šŸ™‚

I saw a baby Raven hopping around in someone’s back yard north of here…I hadn’t realised they were even out of the nest! He was very cute, being watched and visited by his parents as he had a broken wing.He had such a funny low guttural call šŸ™‚

And they are singing…cue music:
ā€œI wish they all could be California Gulls!ā€(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Dangit. Now I’m gonna have that song stuck in my head all night.

Yesterday as I was driving towards the sea I noticed a v formation of ibis. They often come up this way ,more North on a wet year but the swamps are drying up again. Some of the swans I saw starting to construct nests have packed up and headed for wetter southern country as the swamps receded.
Driving home in the dark last night I saw a brown shape on the road in the headlights.I went back, and found it to be a Wattle bird just sitting there with his eyes closed šŸ™‚ My guess was he had been hit slightly, stunned and as it grew dark couldn’t fly away .
Anyway,I carried him over to bushes and he then flew towards them so all was good .

Here’s a really scruffy looking California Gull in AZ I found last Labor Day. Must be a rough trip across the desert.

A better looking Western Gull in it’s natural habitat(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I saw my first Grizzly Bear today . Six to be exact.

And in other news, yesterday I was the first person to record on eBird a Common Loon at Apgar in Glacier National Park.

If one were to look at the historical records of Apgar on eBird they would notice that I am also the last person to record a Barrow’s Goldeneye thus proving that the last will be first. Woohoo!

Bear and bird pics coming soon.

Trumpeter Swans. These birds were almost extinct when I first started birding.

Moluccan cockatoos are supposedly as intelligent as human three year olds.

Here Gotcha the Moluccan Cockatoo meets another of his species.
