Groundhog Day (speaking of which)

Top Gun

The Passion of the Christ

that’s my trilogy

  1. The Great Escape
  2. Serenity
  3. The Matrix
  4. Ferris Bueller’s day off
  5. Saving Private Ryan
Others in my couldn’t live without category, but not making the top five: LotR, The Passion, Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, Event Horizon (don’t hate!), The Exorcist, snatch (definitely not for the kids, 153 f-bombs, and it still made the R cut!).

So, yup, that’s about it.

Yours in Christ,
Thursday

Let’s throw some girly movies into the mix.
  1. Gone With the Wind (read the book too, about 10 zillion times between the ages of 14 and 18  I still pick it up again every now and then)
  2. Forrest Gump ( I think it’s a really sweet story)
  3. Office Space (not for the kids)
  4. The Sound of Music (brings back childhood memories 👍 )
I have others I really like but these come to mind first when I think “favorites.” 🙂

My top 5:

  1. *]
    *]The St Therese Movie
    *]PF

  1. A couple of you mentioned the St Therese movie. I would like to order it. What year did it come out or who starred in it?
    Thanks for any help!

Magnolia by PT Anderson

Also, I’d like to recommend two Iranian films by a director named Majid Majidi:

The Color of Paradise
The Children of Heaven

… two of the most beautiful, loving films I have ever seen.

Also … I love the Brothers Coen (esp. Big Lebowski & Blood Simple), and Contempt by Jean-Luc Godard, Wonder Boys (based on Michael Chabon’s brilliant novel), Waking the Dead, Citizen Kane, & Nobody’s Fool w/ Paul Newman.

Comparing the Matrix with Lord of the Rings is like compariung the Cat in the Hat with The Grapes of Wrath.

I will admit the first Matrix movie was mildly interesting but the next two could have used a plot and some acting. you cant carry a move on special effects alone.

I want to see “Excesism of Emily Rose”
I saw that on DVD recently. I was skeptical about seeing it, because I assumed it would be just another Hollywood horror movie where Satan was glorified. I’m glad I let my friends talk me into it, though. It was nothing like I expected. It was one of the most uplifting movies I’ve seen in a while. I cried several times during the movie, which is not something I do. I admire the faith of the girl in that movie.

You can get it through EWTN:

It’s on the home page (right center)

My Favorites growing up were (to name just a few - I was a big-time movie-goer!):
  1. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
  2. Star Wars (Ep IV)
  3. James Bond movies
  4. Neverending Story
  5. Dark Crystal
  6. Dragonslayer
  7. Legend of Tarzan (with Christopher Lambert)
  8. E.T.
    (Can you guess my age?)
Religious:
  1. Jesus of Nazareth (boy did that affect me as a kid!)
  2. The Ten Commandments
More recent favorites (in no particular order):
  1. Contact
  2. The Village
  3. Batman Begins
  4. Unleashed (very violent - but a very moving story)
I have to say that my all time favorite is still “Jesus of Nazareth”. I saw “The Passion” but I just can’t accept anyone other than Robert Powell as Jesus, even though I know Jesus wasn’t Brittish ;).

My very, very favorites –
  1. Lord of the Rings trilogy
  2. Contact
  3. Indiana Jones/Raiders trilogy
  4. Titanic
  5. Where Eagles Dare (Richard Burton-Clint Eastwood…great WWII action flick!)
  6. Two Mules for Sister Sara (love Clint Eastwood!)

Gone With The Wind
any of the Harry Potter movies
Crash
Life With Father
How to Marry a Millionaire
Gypsy
Cinderella
Sleeping Beauty

Current favorite:

The Human Comedy (1943)

I also love The Thin Man series with William Powell and Myrna Loy, as well as anything with John Wayne.

Volleyball scene from Top Gun! 👍 **

The question was for your favorite MOVIE TRILOGY, not just your favorite movies!

I voted for LOTR (not to be confused with Life on the Rock :D), but Star Wars would be way up there, too (just I didn’t feel like checking the “other” box).

Some of my favorite movies that haven’t been mentioned yet are
Braveheart
Diary of a Country Priest
Flowers of St. Francis

Like Gandalf says in The Lord of the Rings, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Which is what the people in these movies did!
