What is your favorite Western and who is your favorite actor in a Western?

Never got into the Clint Eastwood films. Don’t care for Unforgiven. Can’t get too far into “Deadwood” either (the vulgarity).

Gunsmoke, Bonanza, and Wagon Train I could watch all day.
 
Me too. *Firefly *and *Serenity *deserve mention here as horse-operas-in-space.

Watching Gunsmoke at our home was a ritual similar to watching The Ed Sullivan Show. My father in particular loved the show, as well as Have Gun Will Travel with Richard Boone, who played Paladin. (We named our parakeet Paladin.) Recently, I happened to see an episode of Gunsmoke on, I think, MeTV. It featured Bette Davis, of all people, who played a hillbilly mother seeking revenge for the death of one of her sons.

I loved Have Gun Will Travel. I think Richard Boone was the actor.
Maverick was a great tv western. I liked Wild Wild West, Wagon Train, Rawhide, High Chapparal, Bonanza, Gunsmoke, The Rifleman.

Does anyone remember Alias Smith and Jones?
The Monroes with Barbara Hershey and there was another western set in Kansas with Andrew Prine.

Someone mentione the John Wayne movie Red River. That was really good. Didn’t Montgomery Clift play his son?

7 Sorrows, are you one of my siblings? We watched the same TV shows…and there were 7 of us kids, we could have been the 7 Sorrows to my Mom 🙂

I forgot to mention a great tv western movie…Purgatory. Anyone remember that one? It was such a cool idea for a movie.

You want your good Clint Eastwood, for my money you can’t beat *Pale Rider *(which also brings us back full circle to Catholicism/Christianity/Religion).

Well, that would certainly explain Cowboys and Aliens (which I don’t think is on anyone’s list of favorite Westerns or favorite science fiction movies) 😃

Good point. I suppose “Wild, Wild West” (the original tv series, not the Will Smith movie) was better received.

7 Sorrows, it came out in the late 90s, and I believe was on TNT. Has Sam Shephard and Randy Quaid in it. I don’t want to say much about the plot, because it might ruin it for you…but it’s a good story, and worth watching. I believe it’s available on Netflix!!
 
With good reason, I’m sure. However as Hollywood devotes more and more of its resources to super hero movies, we can expect more and more examples of veteran actors jumping into them in an effort to revive flagging careers (cf Ben Affleck).

Anyway, this too will pass.
