Christendom needs to flex its muscles once in a while. a little military adventurism, sack Constantinople and those heretical Orthodox, murder a few hundred proto-protestant dissenters, establish a handful of unsupportable puppet kingdoms and warlord it up all over north Africa. just what the Faith needed. cool forts though. the foreign legion would need them a few centuries later.
