What is your response to Christians who say that in the Book of Revelation the AntiChrist refers to the entire Papacy? I know this is a Protestant idea, I think Luther first started it, but I am interested in any responses.

i haven’t made up my mind yet… but i have to hand it to some of the sedavacantists… Their arguments are often very convincing… I don’t want to believe what they say and I don’t believe ALL that they say… but there are some things they say that make me wonder…

Is it really that hard to believe that the Anti-Christ would come from Rome? Satan is always attacking Catholics more than anyone else… He hates the Catholic Church most of all (of course ther is only ONE Church…) and he knows that attacking the papacy is the way to destroy (or so he thinks) the entire flock…

but if we are grounded in Jesus Christ, not human beings who administer in the Church… we will be OK

This is my answer (more/less) assuming i understand what you mean by Anti-Pope christians??

I like to say “Yeah it’s so obvious from Scripture that it took 1,500+ years before anybody noticed.” ← Sarcasm

Thank you. This looks good. I was on a Christian Forum, and suddenly some Christians told me that the office of the Papacy was the AntiChrist.😦
HAha well they obviously don’t know their Bibles as well as they think they do 😉

I especially like the part in that first link at the bottom that says, “If not the Whore, the Bride”. 👍

Revelation is a weird book, but you’re right, I know it’s just anti-Catholic sentiment originating with Luther.

The Whore of Babylon is either Rome or Jerusalem. Vatican City didn’t exist when John wrote Revelation.

I asked one person on that forum if they thought Peter was the Anti-Christ, since he was the first pope, but of course, no straight answer!!

Very easy.
  1. Poor biblical exegesis
  2. A complete lack of not knowing chuch history

I believe theres a lot of misunderstanding. Prophecies from Akita in 1973 and Fatima have told us of the problems the Vatican must confront. And you see this it in the News. Nobody doubts the problems. But they pale to the Worlds Chao’s. Nobody of any good sense could actually doubt this is a very Sacred Institution.

And there are Christians who are not of this Denomination. Will they find the Trinity in the next world? I believe thats possible. But I should say this, specific individuals come to mind like Edgar Cayce when my thoughs center on that topic. Thats not the direct path. And the direct is most difficult itself. The trials and cross you will bear are very real

If anyone would ask me how you find God? I firmly believe thats through the Blessed Mother to Jesus then God. Thus the Roman Catholic Faith.

While it may have it flaws, there is way to much Grace and Good to concentrate on those flaws.

Satan is very real and the nonsense he will send your way is confusing and deceiving
Should the Hour of Darkness ever fall upon you, may you have the wisdom to seek God first. An to hold fast in that belief through Mary and Jesus. When that hour passes, then, and only then will you know the Truth!

The Trinity and the Blessed Mother are very real my friend. May you find that in your life.

God Bless, GT

my first suggestion would be to go over carefully with your friend the source he is using to promote this concept. It just so happens that so many of the sources who have made this claim, also in other writings deny that the papacy as an institution existed at all in the early Church in the time John was alive, so they try to have it both ways. go to the sources, required that the sources prove the claim, and then ask your friend to demonstrate that those sources were granted authority, clearly stated in the bible, to interpret the bible, specifically the book of revelation.

A future pope will most likely be such an unfaithful man that he will be the “false prophet”. There will be nothing christian about him as he will be willing to devote his life to Anti-christ.

This is not an anti-catholic statement. It is the reality of Satan. and the reality of prophecy.

There was no need for the Vatican to exist for John to have written about it, as he was given a prophetic vision, which included many things he had no personal knowledge of. He could have been warned about the Vatican in his vision, though it didn’t yet exist.

That said, I don’t believe that interpretation is correct: the Pope is not the Anti-Christ.

I think, first, we need to be careful about what we mean by “anti-Christ”. When the Lutheran confessions use the term (a usage I consider polemic, and specific to that time and situation, and not a permanant condemnation), the meaning is that the papacy is against Christ. We are not talking necessarily about some form of end-times beast.

I personally consider it offensive and frankly obsurd to refer to Pope John Paul II or Benedict XVI, as examples, as anti-Christ, or an anti-Christ, or the anti-Christ.

My only question to those who speak this way is, how does that kind of language create a postive atmosphere for charitable dialogue between Christians?

I pity them.
Their minds are closed and locked up tight.
Quite pitiful.

Their claim? That THEY know of things God says are hidden friom all.
Profoundly stupid at the least, even presumptious at its worst.
(As in the sin of presumption.)

That is, according to YOUR interpetation.
