Pastor Steven Anderson pastors the Faithful Word Baptist Church out of Tempe, Arizona. He’s known for his severe antigay sermons and aggressiveness from the pulpit. Several countries have downright banned him from entering based upon his reputation.

What are your thoughts?

A person without meekness has no right to be preaching. It renders all their efforts sterile and useless.

I have heard of him years ago. My thoughts are splitted, he is right in condemning sodomy for what it is, but my suspicions root on his methods to fight it.

I think your post speaks for itself.
^^This.

Plus, the only reason I’d pay attention to a preacher from another faith is if he were saying or doing something I found useful as a Catholic, such as giving an interesting talk on Bible history in a manner that didn’t contradict Catholic teaching. If some preacher from another faith is just spouting about morals, who cares? I look to the Catholic Church for that, as being the proper teaching authority I should follow.

Hell-fire and Brimstone preaching such as his is just a
knee-jerk reaction to the proliferation of LGBTQ2 rights
being more and more accepted. However Christ would
say “let him who is w/o sin cast the first stone” John 8:1ff
AND we are to love the sinner but hate the sin. speaking
out against sodomy is all good and right, but is he PRAYING
w/ mercy and compassion for those who are caught in
this type of sin??

If I speak in human and angelic tongues* but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal.a

And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing.

(http://www.usccb.org/bible/1corinthians/13#54013002-b)If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Outrage sells. It gets clicks, it gets people talking (even here 🙁), it keeps some people watching, and it generates money.

That’s why I’m not going to search it or view it. Pastor Who?

His congregation is pretty small. People know who he is only because he has been posting his sermons on YouTube for years now, and many of them are outrageous enough that they generate lots of views.

His greatest sermon of all time (not that I have watched many more, but this one will never be topped) was the one where he preached that men should never sit when peeing. The proof text was the phrase “he that pisseth against the wall,” which appears several times in the King James translation of the Old Testament. This was an early sermon, and I suspect that is the one that made him semi-famous.

Interesting guy. Claims to have read the bible greek several times over but finds all the truth against the catholic church.

So are men who sit to urinate homosexuals, queers, and sinners?
I don’t think he said that, but basically it was about the campaign to feminize men, and how when he visited his wife’s family in Europe, there were signs in the restrooms requesting that men sit down when they pee. So he took a stand against that decree. 😆 It’s been a long time since I have seen that video, but that is what I remember from it, anyway.

He’s not Catholic, and based on your post, he lacks any sort of charity. What should we think of him except that he needs to embrace the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church?

Based on what I had to look up and what others have said, he’s not a very charitable man, nor is he respectful towards the Catholic church.
At this point, though, I sorta just bear with it (because what he preaches is nothing I haven’t heard before from an anti-catholic rant) and pray that this man will come to understand what the Church teaches and not use misinformation that usually gets spread about the Catholic faith.

I literally never heard of him before reading your post. I suppose I don’t pay much attention to prominent protestant preachers. From nothing but your description, I doubt I care much for him. I likely won’t take the time to look him up.

Yikes. I wonder what he would think of traditional priestly vestments with all the frilly lace??? 😆

I sometimes think that some of the more conservative members of this very forum would accuse me of leftist, communist, feminist, queer revisionist history for stating the very much fact that, until the early 20th century, pink was associated with little boys and blue with little girls…

He would think they are an effeminate invention of the papists. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That actually reminds me of another sermon of his in which he tried to argue that Jesus wore pants rather than a robe. No joke. It’s hard to believe he is not running a satire YouTube channel, but he is completely in earnest.
