What justification do we have for the attention given to Mary?

I don’t know if I already posted this, but I’m gonna post this just in case…

In depth please:

Why did we start to adore her? Why does she have this special title? many object and say that she is an ordinary woman, so how do we assert that she is who we say she is? didn’t Jael say she was blessed, too? When did we start to do this?

I’m very confused.

Why, she is only the Mother of God!!! What is so ordinary about that?!?

Remember, “All Generations shall call me Blessed”! That’s not very ordinary.

Why do you have a problem with all the attention Catholics give to Mary?

🙂 She was given the ultimate honor by God, for she carried God Incarnate within her! She was preserved from Original Sin and always maintained her virginity, making her a perfect example for us of holy living. She was humble and obedient before God, so she was raised to a place of honor.

Those who say she was ordinary have never considered what it means to be the very Mother of God, the Bearer of God. She’s our example, she’s the New Eve, she’s the Mother of the Church, she’s called “Blessed” by all generations, and she played a tremendous role in our Lord’s plan of salvation.

Jesus christ is true God and true man. His human dna came from his mother, Mary. Just as we honor our mothers, so Jesus honors His mother. If so, why would we christians not also honor the mother of Jesus. It’s only common sense. What is the problem?

The Gospel of Luke shows her saying “all generation will call me blessed”(Luke 1:48) That is what Catholics do. The present generation of Catholics call her blessed.(As well as the Orthodox, happily) Being in the Bible this is the call of God. Denominations that, unfortunately, do not honor her, will not now call her blessed, are missing out on the call of God

  1. Various testimonies, indications and signs of this common belief of the Church are evident from remote times down through the course of the centuries; and this same belief becomes more clearly manifest from day to day.
  1. Christ’s faithful, through the teaching and the leadership of their pastors, have learned from the sacred books that the Virgin Mary, throughout the course of her earthly pilgrimage, led a life troubled by cares, hardships, and sorrows, and that, moreover, what the holy old man Simeon had foretold actually came to pass, that is, that a terribly sharp sword pierced her heart as she stood under the cross of her divine Son, our Redeemer. In the same way, it was not difficult for them to admit that the great Mother of God, like her only begotten Son, had actually passed from this life. But this in no way prevented them from believing and from professing openly that her sacred body had never been subject to the corruption of the tomb, and that the august tabernacle of the Divine Word had never been reduced to dust and ashes. Actually, enlightened by divine grace and moved by affection for her, God’s Mother and our own dearest Mother, they have contemplated in an ever clearer light the wonderful harmony and order of those privileges which the most provident God has lavished upon this loving associate of our Redeemer, privileges which reach such an exalted plane that, except for her, nothing created by God other than the human nature of Jesus Christ has ever reached this level.

Her exaltation is God’s doing and a fulfillment of the prophesy “From now on all generations will call me Blessed” (Lk 1:48b)

NO sir. They have started thronging Marian shrines, attending Marian feasts of Catholics and even using the Rosary despite whatever their churches teach

kdganey,

Is there any reason that you’ve started over 10 threads and you haven’t posted on any one of them after the OP. This sort of smells of “baiting”. Am I wrong?

NotWorthy: Alright, I’ll post something. I didn’t know I had to. I was just a little concerned over everything. I do think Mary is authentic after reading an essay on her in revelation, though… but there are still some areas where I want to cover.

Most discussions are two-way…

What problems do you have with all the attention given to Mary?

Where? Is this happening in India?

Can you describe this or provide a link to a newspaper article or similar that we might look at?

It is wonderful if true.

Good afternoon, kdganey,

Let me synopsize the indepth reasons that she is not ordinary.
I like to think of her as Immaculate Mary, virgin mother of Jesus God and Queen Mother of Heaven.

In every Earthly monarchy, the king’s mother has always been honored. It should be no less in Heaven. Jesus Christ is King of Heaven, Earth and Hell. Mary is His mother, the Queen Mother.

Maybe these spiritual facts can help show you why she is extraordinary.

God loves you,
Don

There is no rule on this forum that you have to post after your first post. There can be a time to talk and a time to listen.
You shouldn’t be discouraged about asking questions.

The answer to this question is, Mother of God. That is as high as it goes except for God.

There is an idea of over estimating the honor paid to Mary.
Sometimes when the words “mother of God” are said of Mary, it is so
misunderstood. She is not the mother of God from all eternity, into existence,
but rather in TIME, into THIS world.

She bore the very Son of God the Father, which is such an enormous concept.
Mother of God. Wow and awesome. Was this ever said of anyone else, even St.
Peter, St Francis, St Augustine, or any other saint, or any angel? Only one alone
had such a magnificent honor given by God Himself. She is so one with God,
that all salvation was channeled thru her, by giving birth to salvation, to Him
who had no beginning and has no end. Think of all the love that the Father
poured into Mary who would become His very own Son’s mother.

Just an Enourmous idea to ponder!

I am no Greek scholar but I was told that in the Greek Mary was the “Theodocus”(sp) e
which means “God bearer”

In the 5th (?) century, the Council of Ephasus validated the title, “Theotokos”, or “God Bearer”.

Your ignorance is predictable and boring.

Your argument is with Jesus Himself…Woman behold your son- behold your mother. Spoken from the cross.

If you are as predictable as I think you are you’ll probably come back with “he was only giving care of his mother to John.”
