As Fr. Corapi says, true freedom is being able to do what you OUGHT to do.
That’s bunk. True freedom is being able to do what you WANT to do, so long as you don’t cause harm to others. Your idea of freedom is tyranny.

And who defines “ought”? Ought we to refrain from eating shellfish and other non-kosher food? Ought we to make a pilgrimage to Mecca once in our lifetimes? Ought we to worship Vishnu and Krishna? Ought we to get married in a Mormon Temple?

There are very many different versions of ought. Why should I get to chose which version of ought you should follow? I say you ought to get down to your nearest Zendo and enrol in a beginners meditation class. Are you going to do what you ought?

But what about the people who DO want to cause harm to others? How do you deal with them in a libertarian/anarchist society? Or do you believe that they will magically give up their criminal urges once all laws are dispensed with? Utopians seem to have more trust in people than they do in God.🤷

I have heard Father Corapi, and what he is describing is not freedom.

Freedom involves the ability to make choices, no choices equals no freedom.

It also means no virtue, because if people do the ‘right’ thing simply because they have no other options they are acting like slaves, not moral agents.

First of all an anarchist society is a contradiction in terms (since a society is an organized group of people).

Secondly the answer of what to do in libertarian society is obvious.

Leave them alone until some of these sadists actually harm their fellow men or women, then punish them. Libertarianism is basically based on the idea of having as few laws and restrictions as possible while still having a relatively just and functional society.

Not having no laws or restrictions.

Actually, the rules of this forum SPECIFICALLY say that non-Catholics are welcome to express their ideas. Which means the powers that be around here have determined that I do have a right to be here.

Does you calling for me to leave mean that I’ve touched a nerve? Perhaps you’re feeling defeated?

Sex and violence have nothing to do with each other.

Actually, while I’d love to see anarchy, I’m realistic enough that I have explicitly disclaimed it. I wish we, as a species, were advanced enough to handle it, but I realize we’re not. But as AA8 noted, I do believe in Libertarianism.

Freedom. For me, and for you.

BTW, sorry for taking so long for responding, was in the City getting setup for a Halloween party. It’s gonna be off the hook!
Where is your reading comprehension? I specifically referred to your ongoing rant about telling Catholics you have no right to do this or do that. How dare you imagine for a moment that you telling Catholics about your approach to living your life and telling us what to do would not be regarded as cause for offense? What? You thought you’d hear the old, I’m OK, you’re OK nonsense?

Just because you have permission to post here it does not mean that your “ideas” should not be rejected. And clearly rejected.

Hey, I’ve written it before - until the issue of so-called gay marriage appeared on the ballot, I was not asked to be involved. When it did, I was required to make a choice. You don’t care about Church teaching? That’s up to you. But don’t tell Catholics “you have no right.” OK?

Before gay marriage appeared on the ballot, I never gave gays, or swingers or sexual deviants a second thought. They had the “freedom” to do whatever they wanted. Whenever they wanted. The moment they shoved this in the face of all Americans, they gave up their right to privacy. They wanted everybody’s OK. They did not get it.

You want freedom and privacy? You’ve got it. So why spend even a microsecond by coming here and telling us what to do? You don’t care about Church teaching then what do you expect? Huh?

Peace,
Ed

ok , so people, for the sake choice, can rape, steal, murder, blackmail, extort, maim, destroy, and beat other people.

No one is truly free. Humans aren’t free enough where they can fly in the air like a bird. Or push a button a win a million dollars. Or live more than 120 years.

All humans have a conditional freedom that is based on many things, such as economy, laws, government, social systems, financial ability, food, shelter, even regular things like clean water. If you live 2 miles away from a well, you have to go to that well in order to survive. If you don’t go, you’ll die of thirst.

What does this tell us? That our freedoms are affected greatly by sin. Sinful corrupt governments cause suffering of their people. War and lack of humanitarian aid. Hence it is sin that truly takes away our freedoms. And all your doing is shackling people more and more into sin.

Only the truth can set a person free.
