What Makes Catholicism the Only Church?

By the way… check out your signature. You say except you do penance you shall perish.

That is a VERY false statement.
You should be saying “except you REPENT you shall perish.”

What you’re not understanding is that the “church” does not refer to the RCC but the body of believers. You keep going on and on about how you think every time “church” is mentioned it refers to the RCC. “church” refers to the body of believers. Believers means those who have faith in Jesus only.
Acts Of Apostles 13 1 Now there were in the church which was at Antioch, prophets and doctors, among whom was Barnabas, and Simon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manahen, who was the foster brother of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Acts Of Apostles 20 28 Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

1 Corinthians 1 2 To the church of God that is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that invoke the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, in every place of theirs and ours.

1 Corinthians 12 28 And God indeed hath set some in the church; first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly doctors; after that miracles; then the graces of healing, helps, governments, kinds of tongues, interpretations of speeches.

So when I have a disagreement with my brother that can not be resolved then I am to take him to this unseen “body of believers” and if he doesn’t listen even to this body of believers then I should treat him as a tax collector ?

How can I do that because the logistics of finding this body of believers aside, under your theology, this body of believers has no authority anyway so how does this concept work in a practical sense ?

So what’s your point? I belong to the church of God.

mmm: church & Church are different.
catholic & Catholic are also different.

The Catholic Church is the body of Christ and takes/has her authority from the Holy Spirit. The catholic church you speak of has no such authority. How YOU define what is authorative is making the same mistake our First Parents made- they thought they knew better and could decide for themselves what is good or evil. Look where that lead?😊

Discuss the problem with the others and pray. Jesus is right there with you.

Mat 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Mat 16 And if he will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand. 17 And if he will not hear them: tell the church. And if he will not hear the church, let him be to thee as the heathen and publican. 18 Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, that if two of you shall consent upon earth, concerning any thing whatsoever they shall ask, it shall be done to them by my Father who is in heaven. 20 For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

That’s not how Jesus said to join His “called out people” from sinners. He said believe and repent. Belief on Jesus and repentance separates us unto the true church. Jesus said He came not to…

Luk 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

No, I didn’t take that out of context. The “church” can be just a few people… where 2 or 3 are gathered. You are stuck on believing “church” means the RCC gathered together with a priest in a “holy” building.

We do have an authority… the Word of God.

Luk 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Paul forbade discussion with heretics, and it can serve no useful purpose. For the heretics reject part of the scriptures, and pervert the sense of what they accept to suit themselves. In any discussion they must perforce impute to their opponents their own dishonest tampering with the sacred text. Appeal to scripture, therefore, will be ineffectual.

De praescriptione haereticorum
On the prescription of heretics
Tertullian addresses the general issue of what is a heretic. "We ought not to be surprised, " he begins, “at the existence or success of heresies”.(1.1) Heresy has the following characteristics:

Heresy, he proclaimed, like persecution, tests men’s faith.(2.8,3.6,4.5)
It was predicted by Christ, and condemned by Paul, who uttered a warning against philosophy and vain deceits.(4.1ff, 6.1ff)
It is caused by boundless and unfettered curiosity.(8.1ff)
The heretic, therefore, can be easily discovered: since he seeks endlessly without ever finding, he must always try to doubt the ‘regula fidei’ which genuine Christians believe without question

Here it is AGAIN. Just so that people can easily see the questions you are trying to evade… Either provide us with an answer to these inconsistencies, or bite the bullet and admit that you don’t have one.

It is bad.
Pro 3:5
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

You’re kidding me! What are you basing your blind assumption that this was written by GOD, then? Did you see God write down the words himself?? NO… without any reasoning involved, you believe it because your parents/pastor/friends/whoever else TOLD you that it was written down by God, and then you accepted it on sheer blind faith.

What’s to keep other religions from doing the same thing?
History books are not accurate. They were written by man. The Word of God says let God be true and every man a liar. If you want to trust in history books then you do so at your own risk. The only truth is the Word of God. You guys seem to trust and quote more ECFs like it’s the Gospel.
Circular reasoning again. See above. When all is said and done, MAN ended up putting ink to paper somehow, both in the case of history books, and that Bible at home that you think you worship. You didn’t conclude through reasoning that the Bible was the word of God, you blindly assume that it is.
The RCC does not call sinners to repentance. The RCC calls people to confession and penance. That’s not the same thing as turning away from your sins altogether. The message of repentance is so watered down in the RCC that it seems be non-existent.
And I suppose you NEVER sin now?

You are stuck on believing “church” means the RCC gathered together with a priest in a “holy” building.
St Ignatius of Antioch was a disciple of the Apostle St John. Let us see what he has to say about the Church:

IGNATIUS to the Smyrnaeans

CHAPTER 8
8:1
[But] shun divisions, as the beginning of evils.
Do ye all follow your bishop, as Jesus Christ followed
the Father, and the presbytery as the Apostles; and to
the deacons pay respect, as to God’s commandment. Let
no man do aught of things pertaining to the Church
apart from the bishop. Let that be held a valid
eucharist which is under the bishop or one to whom he
shall have committed it.

8:2 Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let
the people be; even as where Jesus may be, there is
the universal Church. It is not lawful apart from the
bishop either to baptize or to hold a love-feast; but
whatsoever he shall approve, this is well-pleasing also
to God; that everything which ye do may be sure and
valid.

So you are correct. The “Church” is not the RCC.

It is the RCC and all the Eastern Catholic Churches and the Orthodox Churches. It is all the Churches with validly ordained bishops, priests, and deacons. It is all the Churches with valid sacraments and Apostolic Succession.

The RCC claims to be the pillar and those who don’t rightly divide the Word of God will believe that to be true.
She is the Pillar and Bulwark of Truth which is stated in 1 Tim 3:15. Before there was any schism or division, 1st Century Christians were and always been Catholic. There was no Protestants.

The Bible is not the Pillar and Bulwark of Truth.

… a church without a pope.

Well that’s a lie. There were ALWAYS “faith in Jesus, repentant” believers in Christ. Believers of repentance without a pope. My guess is the RCC started calling true believers “protestants” when Martin Luther left the RCC.

The Word of God is TRUTH… not just a pillar.
