What message is Rome sending?

The Holy Father lifted an excommunication. He did not relinquish teh Chair of Saint Peter.

I have to (uncharacteristic though it may be) agree.

Kind of reminds me of an episode of I love Lucy where Lucy said to Ricky (about something Ethel had done): “Nice, yes. But you’d think she’d invented penicillin.”

I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and have been a Catholic all my life, but I’ve never attended or heard of any other Catholic who has attended a “Clown Mass.” What is it exactly? Have you ever attended one? It sounds kind of funny to me. Does it have anything to do with the SSPX?

Yes, very disturbing. Hitchens is an atheist who, along with making a number of factually incorrect statements in this article, argues that the Church can “leave behind” her dogma.

He views Her as a human political entity that “going right”. Why should we pay attention to someone who has such a fundamentally different idea of what the Church is?

knowing of course, there is no such thing as anyone driving anywhere to go to a clown Mass. It is a parody of abuse, and makes its point that the many places hace been slow to provide the Tridentine Latin Mass for those that desire it.

My stance on the topic is the same to both sides of the SSPX. Why does the urge to read more into this exist so strongly, from both SSPX haters and lovers. It is not a thumbs up to the SSPX and it is not approval of anti-Semitism. It is simply what it appears to be: the lifting of excommunications.
 
The message is a message of hope for the future of the church and this is the most important thing.
 
Maybe I’m missing something here – I didn’t read every post in this thread – but I keep hearing that the SSPX firmly believes all that Rome holds and teaches. Yet isn’t their whole reason for existence that they reject at least one of the documents ratified at Vatican II?

Is this hypocrisy? Are they crossing their fingers behind their backs when they say they stand behind everything the Pope teaches? Or have they recanted their position?

Well, no one’s going to drive an hour to get to a clown Mass, for sure. Who’d ever drive an hour for a clown Mass? Not even the die hard liberals, probably. Why bother when they can just go off to a nearby Protestant service and be ecumenical instead?

i thought it was a decent article, it’s a secular viewpoint and some of the criticism does have merit. you have to admit that many in the ultra-traditional schisms like SSPX hold views that could be viewed as anti-semetic.
