What movies did you think were overrated?

We seldom go to the movies anymore, as we’re not willing to spend the $ on stinker shows. I remember everyone talking about how wonderful “Lost in Translation” was. I like Bill Murray, so we watched it. One of the worst movies I ever had the misfortune to sit through!

I hate all the “action” movies, and won’t watch them anymore. The writing is so terrible in most of them.

I remember movies like “The Piano” and “A Room With A View” were so highly lauded…I hated The Piano, and lasted about 10 minutes into “A Room” and decided to spend the next 2 hours doing something constructive instead. I think I was the only woman in America that thought “Bridges of Madison County” was a stinker. “The Horse Whisperer”…yuck.

Obviously there’s a market for all this stuff, as they keep making it. Most of it is just not my cup of tea. I refuse to give 2 hours of my life away to watching a dumb movie–at my age I have to be pickier about how I spend my time

Hmmm, opposite of “overrated”, I just saw The Lone Ranger last night on cable, after having avoided it in the theatres because people said it was sooooooooo bad.

Maybe the badness was oversold, because I thought it was pretty good.

Granted, it has its share of imperfections, not the least of which might be a DeadWhitMale playing the American Indian Tonto, but still…

Just to name a few off the top of my head, Titanic definitely! ALL hunger games movies, recently the expendables…Cmon, this was just a bad idea for a movie,now there are sequels! Frozen is also on my list, as well as most modern animated ‘kids movies’ LOL.

I remember a time when nearly NO adult admitted to watching, or liking kids shows or movies…dont know what changed, but nearly anything animated that comes out now, its instantly popular, no matter how bad the actual movie is!

I also remember when parents had to sit thru these boring movies due to their kids liking them, but the adult would not be paying attention, probably 1000 miles away in their heads, but today, seems like the parents like these dumb movies more than the kids in some cases…???

One of the problems I have with these modern animated movies that are SOOO popular, is they try way too hard to push agendas, ideas, lifestyles, modern thinking, etc. and usually succeed…I know this proves how dumb the audience is, but cmon, cant anyone else see this in these movies?

I’m with those on The Hunger Games and anything similar (Divergent, Maze Runner etc). Then again, I ain’t so much of a huge of fan of science-fiction in general. And as much as I don’t exactly hate the movie, please don’t sing Frozen’s main theme song within hearing distance of me. I will avoid you for the rest of the day until you realize how much I’d do anything to have that song out of my head.

Haven’t seen mentioned - Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I like Steven Spielberg as a director, but this is my least favorite film by him. I was put off by the way Richard Dreyfuss’ character’s obsession alienates him from his family.

I’m with those on The Hunger Games and anything similar (Divergent, Maze Runner etc).

These are all lame attempts at splicing teen agst dramas with post-apocalyptic stories. They want the coolness of the latter without all the dark and gritty stuff. Which is mostly why they’re for kids who are too young to play video games like Fallout or The Last of Us .

I happen to like hunger games both the books and movies. But Divergent and Maze Runner were so obviously piggy backing on the success of HGs that it was absolutely pathetic.

I liked the hunger games (the movie, as I’ve never read the book) as well, just not as much as everyone else did. My dad liked the movie so much, that he used to watch it once a week!

Gladiator was awful, just awful. I couldn’t finish watching it, it was so mindlessly ahistorical and the dialogue was so cliche-ridden … The characters were one-dimensional cartoons.

Jurassic Park

The movie became a phenomenon for its groundbreaking special effects, but they show their age, and the characters are boring cardboard cutouts that I couldn’t care for when the dinosaurs broke free. I used to like it, but now I don’t think it’s the classic that I it used to be.

Frozen

I saw this movie twice and enjoyed it both times, and I do occasionally get a guilty pleasure out of “Let It Go,” but I can’t believe how it became such a big pop culture phenomenon. It also ruined Once Upon a Time for me.

Yes, I was surprised when this developed into a cult classic. Having read the book, I didn’t think much of the movie.

“Napoleon Dynamite,” and “Little Miss Sunshine.”

I didn’t finish either of them, didn’t think either of them were funny at all. I love absurdist humor/satire, but there comes a point when it just gets worn down and beaten threadbare that there’s no creativity left.
