I just read through the last 2 pages of this thread (that I skipped over before writing my reply above). It looks like a lot of people get annoyed hearing the phrase “marriage is hard”. If that’s you, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to continue uttering what to some sounds like a trite phrase.
I’m rather jealous of those who say that marriage isn’t hard, or even shouldn’t be hard and should be easy though. I guess maybe some marriages just work better than mine. I don’t know. But I do know that I’m married to my husband and I plan to make my marriage work. I feel a bit saddened by someone saying that the only relationships that are hard work are those who are in the wrong relationship. Really?? Um, I’m married and I’m going to stay married, even if it’s not always easy and sometimes emotionally draining.
Actually, I think it’s harmful to think that marriage relationships as something that can be the “wrong one” (other than maybe abuse) - once you get married, it’s no longer about being married to the “right” person. It’s about being married to the person that you are and then committing to that person no matter what, even if you do go through stages where it’s hard to do so.
