The ‘darned if you do, darned if you don’t’ attitude towards US involvement in other countries’ affairs that you mentioned earlier.Sorry, but which attitude?

In other words, you can’t refute it so you’re just going to make smart comments.Of course the British POWs got champagne, caviar and locals to work on the railway in their place instead![]()
In my defence I said ‘it gives you an idea’ of their sufferings. In other words, you can’t refute it so you’re just going to make smart comments.
Good grief, what other countries on this planet have America in their official name. I don’t know of any, except for the United States of America. I don’t see why people get so nitpicky and argumentative about using America as a short form. Most of what makes us proud of America (United States actually, America encompasses north and south),
You might want to talk to a guy named Vern here. Carefull though. He bites. It certainly does not. The policy in Vietnam was “police action” not war. Our troops were handcuffed.
What was Saddam to you a a threat? So you say. I disagree. To me, Saddam has not been productive or well received.
Again, I didn’t and never said that. I would gladly discuss this issue in another thread if you’d like to.
What American interest? God plays no role in that ethic you use?An American security and interest ethic.
I’ll write slower.Such as?
I could cut and paste my answers but they would be the same. He is a lunitic on a rant. I say kill him quickly. He says some obvious things of no import: the US military is made up of Americans- men and women, we choose our own leaders freely (if coerced by media/other interests)…?? No, These ones:
You might want to read the whole conversation before jumping in all indignant. I was called down for stating that the Americans were the only ones who fought globally, not the only ones who fought. You could have also mention the Chinese that lost more and struggled harder than either of our countries, or the Russians for that matter. The point was that America did more than just respond to the Japanese attack. We fought in Europe, Africa and the Pacific.Don’t you dare make this into an ‘our war was worse than your war’ contest because there is no way the US suffered more than Britain did either during or after the war![]()
Just to clarify, I think they actually did. However, it is my impression that British naval forces in the Pacific were knocked out of the war early on by the Japanese.I didn’t imply anything about the British except that they did not fight as a naval force in the Pacific.
You are correct, this thread was supposed to be about pride in America. But America haters have came in and stated why they hate America. I am proud to be an American who defends America against all of it’s haters, foreign and domestic. This thread has gotten off target. The OP asked “What of America is there to be proud of?” I’m not sure bringing other countries into it is what the OP had in mind.
Funny how the “Hate America” crowd chooses to continue living here and enjoying all the freedoms someone else purchased for them, isn’t it?You are correct, this thread was supposed to be about pride in America. Stay focused here, Yoda. I said he wasn’t well received. That means I didn’t like him or his ways. So I supported removing him. What was Saddam to you a a threat?
If you want to discuss past Iranian policies, I’d be glad to do it in another thread. IE: It’s will be a long thread. No need to hijack this thread with long, off topic posts. Meaning, it’s not a simple yes or no answer.
Not neccessarily when it comes to foreign policy. Catholics are supposedly anti war, right? Well that dosen’t sit well with me. Particularly because it is not supported by the Church in a simple, clean cut way. No Pope will condone war, but they also realize that it is needed sometimes. What American interest? God plays no role in that ethic you use?
Not slower, just with some more information.I’ll write slower.
Kill him and another one steps up. And yes, we saw people like him in Iraq. We have them all over the world. In 100 different nations, including Iraq. His ideology is like roaches. What good does it do to kill just one of them?I could cut and paste my answers but they would be the same. He is a lunitic on a rant. I say kill him quickly. He says some obvious things of no import: the US military is made up of Americans- men and women, we choose our own leaders freely (if coerced by media/other interests)…
So?Of import are and also true:
we were in Arabia, we did have a blockade of Iraq going, and our tax dollars were funding it all.
Oh, you are an isolationist. I see now. I remember where that policy got us, and the world, in the past. No thanks.I don;t care what he says as much as what we do and we were marching to the orders of a foreign body- the UN. My income tax was being given to Pakistan, and Arabia. Iraq then like Iran now is not a threat to the US. Pakistan has nukes and couldn;t hit the Atlantic ocean much less get across it. What are you afraid of? We can’t gurad our own borders so we go guard theirs?
It is funny. But like I said before, I know what I would personaly do if I felt that way about America. I would leave her. Go live in some other nation that is not as “evil” as America is or it’s government, that was elected by her people. Me, personally, would renounce my citizenship and flee to Canada, Spain, England, or anywhere else but here. But that’s just what I would do. Although, you would have to fight your way through the crowds of people flocking to get into the US, on your way out, but…Funny how the “Hate America” crowd chooses to continue living here and enjoying all the freedoms someone else purchased for them, isn’t it?![]()
I note how every election there are some “famous people” who vow to leave the country if so-and-so is elected. But they never do.It is funny. I noted earlier that one was always free to start their own hate America thread. For that matter, start a thread about the greatness of the British Empire or Australia on one of their national holidays. I bet a dollar to a doughnut that Americans here would not jump on to criticize, but rather to support their allies.Funny how the “Hate America” crowd chooses to continue living here and enjoying all the freedoms someone else purchased for them, isn’t it?![]()
Sorry I touched a nerve there Marine! I added that comment just before I posted because I was corrected, earlier this year, from some former Marines by not using America “alone”. (Former Navy here 68-78) No doubt, when the world hears “America”, it thinks “United States”.Good grief, what other countries on this planet have America in their official name.
I suppose if it’s so important and it will make people feel better we can cese the use of America and American and just say we are from the United States…but what would that make us United Statesians? Estadounidense works in spanish, doesn’t translate too well to english.
Any other alternatives.

I note also the Hate America crowd is prone to claim “I see” when they didn’t see at all – except on television. People will condemn the United States based on what is presented on the news, and never even bother to go and see for themselves.I noted earlier that one was always free to start their own hate America thread. For that matter, start a thread about the greatness of the British Empire or Australia on one of their national holidays. It hasn’t always been that way in America. It certainly wasn’t the case in the original 13 colonies, where anti-Catholic penal laws from England were in full force. Catholics were not entirely freed from all the penal laws against them until thirty years after the Declaration of Independence was signed. For example, in New York State’s constitution signed in 1777, it was tolerant of all religions, except Catholics were denied full citizenship.…the same First Amendment that protects our right to follow our chosen faith, also protects the rights of other Americans to follow their chosen faith, or follow no faith at all. We can’t make a law requiring all Americans to attend Mass anymore than the athiests can make a law requiring us all to stop attending Mass.
When I look at the state of life for Catholics and other Christians in other countries, I think about how lucky I am to be able to practice my faith without fear. I’m also happy that so many faiths can co-exist in this country without the kind of sectarian and religous violence that exists in other parts of the world.
