Scary scenario. However, even if Trump declared the election invalid, his term of office would still end at noon on January 20. He would no longer be president. Anyone who assisted him in usurping the power of the legitimate president would be in a very uncomfortable place indeed once the insurrection was put down. I don’t think the Proud Boys could protect him for very long. What he might do is to declare the recent election invalid and allow the right-wing militias to prevent an inauguration. If the Secretary of Defense obeys Trumps order to not send in the Army, then Trump can remain in the Whitehouse. As Mao said, “Political power grows out of the barrel of a gun,”
Amen!I think that we care that our constitutional process will take place with the newly elected President being sworn in without obstruction.
I’m not so sure. I mean yeah, lots of people support Trump. But would they support an insurrection? I doubt it. At least I hope not. If that were to happen, the United States of America as we know it would be history.there are a lot of people out there who really believe Trump’s rhetoric about the election being stolen and they will be more than happy to support such a move.
The Proud Boys couldn’t protect him from my Shih-Tzu.I don’t think the Proud Boys could protect him for very long.
Agreed. I suspect that even the Metropolitan Police are more than a match for the Proud Boys.I just don’t see how any militias could stop the inauguration from happening.
My sister has three. Her two cats terrorize them. The Proud Boys couldn’t protect him from my Shih-Tzu.
True. The ceremony doesn’t have to be a big Trumpian affair. Biden, a judge, and a couple of witnesses in a Capitol storeroom would do the trick. They could disrupt it for a short time possibly but I don’t see how they could prevent the swearing-in from happening.
