What religion or denomination would Martin Luther belong to if he were alive today?

What religion or denomination would Martin Luther belong to if he were alive today?
 
He would probably start his own denomination based on his own interpretation of the Bible. I don’t think it was in his nature to be obedient to any Church or creed, apart from his own.

I think you are right…I also believe that there are many, would-be “Martin Luthers” today…

This is caused in part, by a self-centeredness and large ego, which can be self-destructive if not corrected.

I’m glad you are an authority on Luther’s nature. He never intended to leave the Catholic church from everything I’ve ever read, just to argue his points of reform. Those arguments initially fell on deaf ears until he wouldn’t shut up about them, then the proverbial **** hit the fan. It was later that he turned completely against Rome and especially the office of the pope.

With that said, I don’t know that he would be in any of the “lutheran” churches. I also can’t say he would be Catholic. I think people 100+ years ago would not recognize a Roman mass today, just like Luther probably wouldn’t recognize what he started back then compared to what it looks like now.

I know I will get the “the church has never changed, it would still be recognizable”, but it was in Latin only then, now it is vernacular wherever you are, so no, it would not be the same.

You’re right. Luther didn’t intend to leave the Church…but he did. He thought he was more Catholic than the Pope. Luther had severe problems with obedience, and I am justified in saying that. The man was a heretic. This may not be politically correct or nice, but it is the truth.
 
In my opinion, this whole thread is mere speculation and serves no useful purpose.

I have to agree. Luther was a man of his times. I suspect that if he were somehow transported into the present time, he would be totally lost in a 21st century world. We cannot begin to imagine how he would react to the social, political, and religious changes that have occurred.
 
Considering his hatred for Jews, and complete dislike of reason, I imagine he’d be in one of the more “colourful” churches:D
 
Hmm…Luther, interesting fellow, lets not talk trash about someone who has long been dead shall we?

If Luther were still alive, that it to say, he kept living all the way to today, he would be Catholic. He would see how many protestant denominations came about, 30,000+? (rising exponentially still) and come back.

That’s just my opinion, but it doesn’t really matter, he’s dead. He won’t be coming back on earth again.
