What should be done to stop abortion?

If you ask me, everything short of sin should be done to stop abortion. In other words, do anything but lie, commit violence, etc. 🙂

Prayer itself is the most powerful weapon. The rosary, the Chaplet of divine Mercy, prayer in adoration. prayer at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Constant and ongoing without ceasing.

According to someone or other on the radio today (Jed or Jeb Babbin … never heard him before), as many as FIVE of the Supreme Court justices could be named by the next president.

So, it is even MORE important to vote for a pro-life candidate for president and even MORE important to have an overwhelming majority of pro-life people in the U.S. Senate.
What pro life candidate is available? If one existed, that person would get my vote. As it stands, I don’t like any of the candidates.

The first group we have to convince that it all begins with life is us.

When we as Catholics, consider for a nanosecond a candidate who voted against basic medical care for aborted babies born alive, then we have veered off course. This is the one, inescapable fact that can’t be equivocated by the old “privacy” brouhaha. No longer a “part” of the mother’s body, but a fully formed, living human being, allowed to perish, as “a mother’s right to choose”.

It is barbarism, and we are no more than barbarians for allowing it via the ballot box.

We are not allowed to discuss candidates on Catholic Answers Forums.

But one of the political parties is consistently pro-life and the other political party is consistently pro-abortion.

One party appoints pro-life judges to the Supreme Court. The other party opposes the appointment of pro-life judges to the Supreme Court.

Yes, I know who you are talking about, but like I said, I don’t like any of them, so I am in a quandry as to who to choose. For me, it will depend on who the VP choice is for the pro-life candidate.

Some years ago, some of my friends didn’t like either candidate so they voted for a third party candidate and they ended up with a president that they liked the least.

Sometimes, it’s not a matter of getting who you want; sometimes, it’s a question of not getting who you want the least.

In the current battle, it’s really a battle for the heart of the Supreme Court: the next President will appoint as many as FIVE U.S. Supreme Court justices.

So, that’s what you are voting for. Five, count’em: FIVE (5) U.S. Supreme Court Justices.

The above question was answered for me September 07 on a morning Rosary Run. Since I returned to our faith Easter of 05 after being away 40 years I began adding the Rosary to my morning runs and it has been a blessing beyond belief. One Rosary Run prompted me to write a letter to Pope Benedict in September of 05 to lead all of us on a pilgrimage to Darfur to care for the women and children. I received an answer in October.
I have continued my Rosary Runs and this past September I was given the thought that Catholics should unite to the suffering of single mothers and unborn children by running across the U.S. from the west coast to D.C. and silently pray the Rosary in a pilgrimage that will also raise money on a national scale to assist those in need.
I was given the idea that we should leave the comfort and security of our homes and jobs for a period of time to show people what the depth of our faith means to us just as when Christ to His disciples to go out a spread His Word with only the clothes on their backs. The question for me is, “Do we have the depth of faith and commitment to make such a sacrifice for those unborn children and their mothers?”
Our Holy Mother has told us to repent and pray the Rosary daily. I have sent this to various Catholic radio hosts and have been dismissed with statements like “I will pray about this.”
I truly believe that we must stop with comfortable demonstrations and rhetoric and instead run across the country and pray the Rosary as an action of faith on a daily basis in a massive movement that cannot be ignored.
I am interested in your responses.
God Bless.

My problem is, both of the candidates are two of my most disliked personalities after the two who are in the White House now.

It’s a shame we Catholics who are against abortion and war can’t come together to vote for that third party candidate, Maybe it would scare the members of the other two parties so badly to see votes leaving their party, they might just shape up. I am of the opinion we need a third party to keep an eye on the other two.

Third party candidates have the role of pulling votes away from the most pro-life of the major party candidates.

So, you end up with the most pro-abortion candidate getting elected.

The question is who do you want to NOT win and then vote for the candidate who is most likely to lose if you hold back or sit out or go third-party.

Focus totally on the Supreme Court.

If the “wrong” candidate wins, then the Supreme Court will end up being totally pro-abortion for the next 20+ years. In addition, there are already proposals to further restrict free speech … such as the proposals to restrict radio talk show broadcasts … radio talk shows tend to be pro-life … so it would be very difficult to organize future opposition to abortion in the future.

AND, to get pro-life justices on the Supreme Court, the U.S. Senate needs to be 60% prolife. That means not only a pro-life President, but also an OVERWHELMINGLY pro-life Senate.

Like it or not, the Democrat Party has been consistently pro-abortion and like it or not, the Republican Party (warts and all) has been consistently pro-life.

I’m not making that up.

Hi Al. I know you aren’t making this up. That is why I didn’t vote Dem. the last election, but voted for the Pub. gang and look what we got.::whacky: :whacky:

I drive by a Planned Parenthood and often see people praying the rosary outside. Does that actually work? Do women not get abortions because of that?
What do you think would stop women from getting an abortion? I don’t mean some general idea of what is wrong with society, but what real, concrete tangible actions actually stop women from aborting their babies? Has any organization ever polled women who were initally planning on having an abortion but didn’t?

I’ve been thinking lately that I really would like to get involved with pro-life work, but I wonder if the methods they are using are even making a difference and I would like for what I do to have an impact.

We must address the general idea of what is wrong with society. John Paul II said we should pray daily for families. The first place a woman should feel she has to turn is to her family, Yet many do not have a supportive front within their families. Still yet there are many who would have families that were non judgmental and still they proceed to have abortions . Some due to peer pressure, culture pressure and their own selfishness. To really fight abortion we must fight sin in our enviroment , tv, radio, THis may sound very general but the evil that supports sin is lurking everywhere. It is working on young girls that aren’t even sexually active it is grooming them for the sin they will commit six years down the line.So I suppose my answer, my concrete answer is prayer and penance.

We sure wouldnt have alito and roberts on the USC. A Democart victory in November will enshrine RFoe V wade as the law of the land for at least another generation

Lets just pray that God Blesses America and that we truly become one nation under God. That includes living his commandments.

This sort of outcome is one that Catholics totally overlook.

There is a lot of name calling against President Bush. But he got us Alito and Roberts. MAJOR accomplishments.

If we want to continue to get Pro-Life Justices on the Supreme Court, we will need to elect a Republican President AND an overwhelmingly Pro-Life (Republican) Senate.

The Senate needs to be overwhelmingly Pro-Life to offset the Rino’s.

Yes, and perhaps making ourselves more visible to the press and governement through letters and giving a helping hand to organizations like Birthright.

Self professed Catholics need to stop voting pro-aborts into office, for starters.
