What should Catholics think of Breitbart News Network?

Read both.

You don’t need to memorize them; just read them.

You don’t take an oath of allegiance when you read something.

When reading, understand the leanings. Breitbart is to the right just as cnn, msnbc, nbc, cbs and abc are to the left. Just realize the point of view they are written from, most on both sides extreme.

With full knowledge of their bias, I go there to see news I wouldn’t see elsewhere.

If there’s an article about the Catholic Church, stay away from the comments. It’s disheartening.

I would say that Breitbart is equivalent to their counterparts on the left, like Vox, etc. I would also say that they are becoming equivalent to MSNBC and CNN, as those news agencies are no longer attempting to remain political neutral.

However, I would ignore them (and ignore ALL of the secular media) when it comes to Catholic news. I rarely see any secular news organization (left or right) get Catholic News correct, esp when it deals with the Pope (any Pope).

In my opinion, the National Catholic Register should be the primary source of Catholic News, along with *EWTN News *(ewtnnews.com) and the *Catholic News Agency *(catholicnewsagency.com).

There are a few others that are pretty good too, like catholicworldreport.com/

Yes. National Enquirer would be better than Breitbart.
Weekly World News (is that even still in print?). It was a “great” source for everything truly important going in in the world.
(Sarcascm level: extreme)

Seriously, having studied and worked in journalism, take anything with a grain of salt nowadays. Assume any news source on cable is spinning to some effect.

My philosophy is to look at the core 20% in each political party and seewho they’re complaining about. If both sides are complaining about the same source, then that source is probably doing a halfway decent job.

Read as many different sources as you have the time for…remember, the truth will be somewhere in the middle!

You have to keep your filter on. I read all the time. Books, lots of online sites like The Daily Beast, Der Spiegle, The Catholic Thing, BBC, and other Catholic media. I also take breaks from it all.

You most definitely have to consider the source though, and they are sometimes wrong, you have to remember that as well.

I haven’t read any Breitbart articles about Catholic news, but I’ll accept the advice of others on that.

With regard to secular news, particularly social hot-button issues, I’ve sometimes encountered news in Breitbart which is not in the MSM or which the MSM is mis-reporting, eg. some of the Trump “scandals”. Whenever I’ve checked the source I’ve found Breitbart to be accurate (as far as I can tell).

This sounds positively horrible, but the best Catholic news I’ve found in the MSM (other than NCR or my diocesan paper) is at the Deseret News in Salt Lake City. Seems the LDS are always interested in what the Catholics are up to.

I don’t read Breitbart. I was taught propaganda resistance many years ago in a Social Studies class. I lived through the Vietnam War. I don’t believe lies. 👍

If I want real news, I’ll go to either the Weather Channel or to Wikipedia.

I have found Breitbart news to be factual and not propaganda.
