Hi!

…I think that you’ve just made mom spin in her grave…

…why three?

…why not thirty-three?

…her devotion was not to method but to God–she had special occasion Rosaries; she had Rosaries for group prayer (in case others did not bring their own); she had Rosaries from Rome, from Washington, from Lourdes, from Assisi, from the Holy Land…

…not once did she collect elephants or monkeys or pigs or cows or dogs or lions or gnomes–she did have a dolls collection, once!

…but Rosaries, Novenas, prayers, books… and yes, Bibles!

Maran atha!

Angel
Agreed! My two Rosaries are blessed by the Pope and I want a cheap Rosary I can take in my pocket to school so if I lose it I will only be losing a buck or two.

The most important thing is a Bible so you can really know God’s Word!

The Bible is really the ONLY have-to-have, and even that can be accessed online. All those other things can be beautiful and help you in your journey, but without the Word of God, we are nothing. I have one rosary, but when it is not with me I still have ten fingers.

Our parish gives inexpensive, sturdy rosaries away. I have taken a couple home for my older children and they.hold up well. 👍

I think a copy of the Catechism is nice, but that is available online too. Still, there’s something nice about a book.

I agree with the poster who is saying that the “stuff” you own doesn’t make you a Catholic.

It’s wonderful to own and use those things to build faith, but being Catholic is so much more than accumulating “holy things”.

God bless you. Ask your priest how you can be of service to others and be the hands and feet of Christ.

Peace.

PS: When someone offers you a free Catholic Bible, you should snag it! 😉

In my mind the most important things have already been mentioned, yes most of them you can get really cheap, no you don’t have to have them to be a Catholic.

The only thing I’d suggest that hasn’t been mentioned so far is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. You can get it free online, you can download apps with it I’m sure and you can buy it in a book form, whatever you like. I find it very helpful and informative!!!

Absolutely. You can often find a used copy online, and sometimes the RCIA class will just GIVE you one as part of the class, along with the Catholic Answer Bible.

You can get a paperback New American Bible for less than $10. I really think that should be your next purchase, before a 3rd Rosary. (Why three?)
The two Rosaries I have been blessed by the Pope, I want a pocket rosary that’s cheap and that I can keep with me. I fear losing such a precious thing,

I have two Catholic items at my bedside. The Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The bible is a good one and cost about $50. The Catechism ran me about $10.

With those two items you get the Word of God with proper interpretation and explanation. It gives you answers for our modern day issues.

IMO, those 2 items are an absolute must for any devout Catholic.

Yes, all of the things listed by others above and then USE them!

Especially pray the rosary and read the gospel everyday. They will make you rich! :)😃

Definitely take this poster up on his offer and get a Bible. It’s a must for every Catholic.

Good luck with your collection.

God Bless,

Mary.
+1. I would definitely want my own personal Catholic Bible!

Is there anything I should add to this list?

I have:
-2 Rosaries
-4-inch Crucifix figurine
-1 and a half inch Mary figurine
-Sacred Heart of Jesus candle
  • Miraculous Medal
    -Missal
    -Prayer book
What else should I get? I have $30 and thinking about getting a bible, but they are really expensive. Should I get one bible and one more Rosary or something else (bigger cross, Pectoral cross, etc)?

Anything would be greatly appreciated, Thank you 😃
I got a fabulous second hand Catholic Bible from the book fair for $5.

Wait, why am I the first person to point out he does not have the Christian Prayer (LoTH)???

But I agree. do definitely get a Catholic Bible. Even NAB, despite being heavily derived, is acceptable for personal use, along with Ignatius bible. Be glad you ain’t a Canadian and suffer NRSV-CE, which manage to make KJV and NASB look Catholic.

Well for English speakers, right at the very top of the list would be a nice edition of the Ronald Know translation of the Bible.

I know that favored Bible translations are personal, a matter of taste and temperament, but Knox is absolutely essential as far as I’m concerned.

Personally, I carefully removed all of the gilt lettering on the cover and spine with Q-Tips and a little rubbing alcohol, and then gently and non-messily applied a little bit of Lexol Neatsfoot Leather Dressing. I’m happy with the results, and it will remain a close friend my entire life. It is a tad expensive, but of course it’s worth any sum of money. And like I said, it’s a friend that’s travelled through life with me and will continue to do so until the end.
