What should the Church do next with the Liturgy?

A.Pelliccio:
By the holy fathers directive you do not mix rites. There could never be a femal on the alter as a server, the eucharist will never be administered in the hands, ect. This would be a grave abuse of the liturgy. It was instructed that there will no be a mixing of the rites.
But modern priests are experts at the whole liturgical abuse thing. They practically invent a new one every Sunday. Trust me. They would have liberal overweight nuns doing the tango infront of the altar if the Tridintine Mass was reinstated as the norm.

Dr. Bombay:
Also, I refuse to believe that Christ allowed His Church to worship for all those centuries using an inferior Mass in which the people “weren’t paying attention.”
AMEN! Likewise, I refuse to believe that Christ allowed His Church to worship for the last 30-40 years using an inferior Mass.

Glad we’re on the same page!

Isn’t this along the lines of saying that all the priests prey on children? Not really accurate, is it? They practically invent a new one every Sunday. Trust me. In the 17 years that I have been a Catholic, I’ve seen what I would call 2-3 abusive parishes. That’s living in 3 states, traveling throughout the US and England. So a new one every Sunday is something I think I would have seen. Trust me. They would have liberal overweight nuns doing the tango infront of the altar if the Tridintine Mass was reinstated as the norm.
I’m not fond of liberal nuns either (“pantheistic nuns who wear earrings” is what I refer to them as), but, the tango in front of the altar…yes, that would be new. You’ve got me there.

Always, Kirk. :tiphat:

I’m pretty sure we’re on the same page. But sometimes I fear we might be using different books. 👋

Dr. Bombay has now officially become mine, Topher’s and my other room mates hero.
Thanks, Mosher. You’re the wind beneath my wings too. :bowdown2:

Re What do you guys think should be done with the liturgy?

(other than reintroduce the pre-Vatican 2

I think Pope Benedict intends to introduce Vatican 2. I gather he doesn’t believe that it has ever been tried.

First and foremost, I would like to see the proper reverence
that has been sorely lacking for years now. I agree with moving
the sign of peace to earlier in the Mass. I would love to receive
communion kneeling at the communion rail as I did as a child,
but many churches today remove them, or if it is a new church
they don’t put them in.

People seem to have forgotten to genuflect when they should,
they think it’s okay to carry on conversations in church whether
it is before, during or after a Mass.

I attended two different churches this year on vacation and they
both had the lector telling their names and all the servers names,
readers names etc who were assisting at the Mass. This always
makes me cringe, maybe it’s just me but I feel that it makes
the Mass sound like a stage production. One of them also
did the “say hello to the people around you” thing that I also
dislike. To me the sign of peace alone is sufficent.

I am really looking forward to being at a Mass with Father Corapi this December! 🙂

Let’s bring back Psalm 42 and the prayers at the foot of the altar!

Dr. Bombay, I wanna be just like you when I grow up.
When you and Mosher get the Dr. Bombay fan club started, please private mail me!

Christus Rex:
Well if I become a priest I tell you the first thing I will do is implement all of these thing listed below, and you’re welcome to come and help me netmil(name removed by moderator)! Priests need to start making changes and ruling with an iron fist if need be - its for a greater good. If the architecture isn’t up to standard we’ll be going on a few fundraisers and I might just dig up that bulldozer in my attic… 😃

Michael :yup:
I’m with you Michael!
I run a mean bake sale too. We can finance the new building!

Has it?
When I read the original documents on the liturgy, it looks way different from what I see in the “Catholic Communites”.

Starting from scratch, with no innovations, may well be the way to go.

That sounds good if “scratch” is the Tridentine Latin Mass. I have a copy of the Novus Ordo Latin Mass and I can honestly say that I have not studied the differences in detail. So I cannot rule out the Novus Ordo Latin Mass. I do like an altar better than a table, but that just may be because that is they way I first knew the Mass. I guess having both a tradiitional Mass and one of the modern “guitar” and “dancer” Masses available would be okay. As long as I could go to a Traditional Mass conveniently. I have never held a host and don’t plan to hold one. I do have friends who are charismatics and they love having all sorts of activities during the Mass that would freak me out, but I wouldn’t want to prevent them from having their Mass as long as the Blessed Sacrament is treated respectfully.

By the way, do priests who say the Novus Ordo Mass in English have regular altar missles in English? I only know of the Novus Ordo Latin Missle.

Oh I’m sorry but I had to highlight your quote. I nearly wet myself!
I’m with you, let them have what they like but offer us SOMETHING like the original NO.
I’m really not an expert in the language of the TLM compared to the NO, but I can tell you that if you walked into my church, it is more like a TLM parish than a “Catholic Community”
We actually do have a Wednesday Latin NO and our pastor does the TLM at the indult parish as well.

That would definatelly be nice.
I’m surprised Psalm 42 was removed. Wouldn’t it be nice for the priest and congregation to pray it alternatley?

I know; the modernists would not like it; it makes the mass sound too much like a sacrifice. B-16 will straighten them out though; maybe now the Novous Ordo will finally be implemented, 40 years later.

I think we should not allow as many “options” in the New Mass.

In order of importance.
  1. NO RECIEVING ON THE HAND thats what Aryans did to show they weren’t Catholic, along with the Protestants.
  2. Face East- don’t make the priest turn his back on the tabernacle and crucifix! The Sacrafice of our Lord was to the Father not us!
  3. CORRECT Translations
“Qui pro vobis et pro multis.” For you and for** many **.

“Lord I am not worthy **that thou should come under my roof ** but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.”

“**Behold ** the Lamb of God” not “This is”

“for our good and for the good of all his **HOLY ** Church”
  1. Enforce Silence in the presence of Our Lord.
