Since Pope Benedict XVI is no longer pope… how should we refer to him?? I think his official title now is pope emeritus, so can we still call him Pope Benedict XVI? Or just Benedict XVI? Or should we go back to calling him Ratzinger? …???

Kind of confusing.

He was prayed for and referred to at mass today, as Pope Emeritus Benedict.

He was not prayed for today at mass today, nor was he at the daily mass on Friday. His pontificate is over. During a Sede Vacante, the prayer skips directly to your Bishop.

“Emeritus” is an honorific title… well deserved of course, but that does not mean we continue the prayer in a normal fashion. I wonder if your pastor, after the Conclave, will include Pope Emeritus Benedict in the Eucharistic Prayer?

He was prayed for at the prayers of the faithful, at our mass.

His Holiness Pope Emeritus Benedict is his title now. It is quite awkward. I think most people will still casually call him Pope Benedict.
