What should you do when you want to hear from / experience God?

The problem, frankly (and everyone goes through this) s that we read and hear and expect that God is good. and we stop there. Everything Good comes from God. God wants everyone to be happy. God does not make people sick. God doesn’t relish pain. God doesn’t punish for no reason. Illness is not a punishment. God desires healthy relationships, God will find us a good mate. Anything is possible with God, etc etc etc.

Sounds familiar?
Notice one thing about all those statements They are pretty much all demands on God.
Not one that indicated we can at times be frustrated, downcast, depressed, angry even.’
Just the sublime person named GOD.

So we try to meet Him, Appease Him Appeal to Him, Obey Him, and we expect results.

Results. We have coupons. (prayers)'We have good deeds (charity) We deal with awkward friends and relatives, and we think we are due a reward. Something to show for all of our fidelity.

And God is silent.
So, what to do?

PERSEVERE.
What did Christ do as He hung on that tree, mocked, spat upon, derided and executed?
He asked His Father to make it go away, and when God the Father was silent. He became like a lamb. A lamb to the slaughter. ANd he rose again and LIVES FOREVER.

The only thing I can guarantee you is that you too will live forever if you trust pray, and are a good person, suffering with humility and cheerfulness. Yes, cheerfulness.
Is it hard?
Unbelievably hard. Harder than passing the bar, harder than being a superb mathematician, harder than watching your child marry a horrible person. Harder than losing your best friend or mother to cancer. HARD

But the reward is incredible. And the way to achieve it is through faith, the Sacraments for grace, and true love of God. God needs to know that you love Him. He loves you beyond your wildest imagination although you can’t see it now. But He does.

He does.

He does.
Love Him back.

I’m not saying this to placate you, I am telling you the truth.
I am.
I am praying for you. I will ask for a special blessing for you in this New Year. NO idea what that would be, we leave these things to God.

Love him back. You can call me crazy or ignore me.
but love Him.

That’s all that matters.

Peace,
Clare

I would like to pray two of these novenas, one for each of two health problems doctors have told me have no treatment or cure. However, should I pray your version, or EWTN’s more elaborate version?

I am concerned EWTN’s language may be too strong for me to uphold — e.g. “to always honor you” — but I don’t know whether God would ignore (or refuse to grant) the petition if I use your version instead. Any thoughts on these matters?

Also, did you mean to say “24-24”, i.e. to refer to only one verse?

Either one you use just pray with your heart and trust God. God can say Yes, no, and not right now. Love him regardless of any situation. And the verse I put Mark 11:24 should help in your process. Look it up. I’ll pray for you as well.

I don’t appreciate the sarcasm. I didn’t claim my pain was unique or that I was the smartest. Sorry for trashing someone you seem to really like, but I was offended to spend so much time reading his book, finding so many problems in every chapter, and ultimately learning nothing except that Catholic Answers manipulated me into buying a bad book. I wrote a 14 page rebuttal I still think I ought to self-publish on Amazon for a fraction of his book’s price.

Why do you think I am bitter towards God? I don’t see a rational foundation to be bitter: If God is good and just and wise and permits suffering, then we should praise Him for the good outcome we merely can’t see.

Reduce noise, brain clutter like tv,radio,Facebook, general city noise if you can.Take time out by finding peace in silence and gentle quiet to be able to ponder.Live in the present moment and share all your thoughts with God as your best friend.Absoloutly agree with spending time with Jesus in the tabernacle and whenever and wherever you are praying think of Him there.

I actually experienced a genuine outpouring of the holy spirit from praying the rosary. It definitely wasn’t imagined. I know from that experience that our prayers are heard, though experiences like that are rare.

I think that it does really help to sit quietly before the Lord, either before the Tabernacle in a church or a chapel, or before the Lord in Adoration.

Whenever I’ve done it, there is just a peace that overcomes me that I don’t feel elsewhere. Maybe it comes with being in an environment that is so calm and quiet, that you just happen to really notice it then.

When my husband and I were visiting this beautiful little shrine chapel recently, we were alone there at the time.

It was so quiet. The only thing that you heard was the heater going on and off at times.

We just sat there, adoring Jesus in the Tabernacle. It was a soothing, calm, and peaceful time. So beautiful.

I hang onto those moments the best that I can. ❤️

Also have people pray for you 🙂 Sometimes for no apparent reason I stop what I’m doing and feel an overwhelming feeling of happiness,of being well loved…I put this down to prayer from others.

Hello.

Spiritual reading is good. Posting here is helpful too. You could go to Mass or Adoration. Do a kindness for someone you really, really dislike.

I like to go to the dog park. There has to be a great God to make such a wonderful creature as a dog.

Thank you for your post. You are in my prayers.
