Exactly! Stop worrying about this movie. Its just entertainment- fabulous entertainment! 😃
Of course the Church is going to survive, but we are supposed to be concerned about the souls that could be lost because of this movie, as JohnR pointed out at the beginning of this thread. That’s not something to be taken lightly, and is what we are in the Church for. Read I Cor. 8.

To be completely honest, I could not care less about The DaVinci Code.

Then I believe you’re in a dangerous position, my friend. Didn’t Jesus say something about spewing the lukewarm out of his mouth?

Aren’t we supposed to be aware that the devil is prowling around looking for someone to devour, and to care about the eternal salvation of everyone? Isn’t it our duty to warn everyone about the dangers if this horrid book and movie? Or perhaps you think I misunderstand the Gospel.

People keep saying stop worrying, but who said reasonable protest = worry? This is about Truth. Yes, the movie makers use controversy to their advantage, but so what? I say thank God for our enemies if they get us off our butts and get out there and proclaim the Truth. Also, for the it’s-just-fiction dismissal: Imagine a book of fiction that depicted the Holocaust as a hoax. We would hear all kinds of protest. AS WE SHOULD.

It’s so good to read that someone thinks the truth is worth defending, as the martyrs did. I really like some of the websites that puzzleannie put up. I don’t have time to get to them all, but the first one sure has a good idea for how to get the truth out.

I just finished reading the book. Brown is as anti-Catholic as they come. I will not be seeing the movie. His ideas are as far-fetched as those on the Islam threads. Jesus didn’t die on the cross? Any student of history knows how thorough and ruthless the Roman legions were. And if the grail is the crypt of Mary Magdalene, where is the tomb of Jesus in France? (Conspicously absent from the book is any description of what happened to Jesus). The whole thing is taurine foecal matter and anti-Catholic.

Hehe. Sometimes I get the defender saying that the Catholic Church does not figure into much of the book. Ok, fine. But when that little bit that is in the book basically says the Church has been lying from day one, that is significant. One of the writers at Our Sunday Visitor pointed it out well by saying that the Bible makes it abundantly clear that Peter and the apostles fouled up and fouled up big. If the Church was really perpetuating a conspiracy, wouldn’t they have removed these embarrassing stories?

The more you talk about it, the more power it gets. The more attention given to it, the more people will want to see it. The more controversy it generates, the more money it will make. This is exactly what the devil would want.

I do not want to give this fiction any more thought or attention than it already has. It is not a question of being lukewarm, but rather to not get all hot and bothered over it.

This “the Church will survive” theme is disheartening. The Church will survive if all decide to promote rape and murder, but is that how we should proceed? Tolerance of heresy because of a promise by our Lord? He would be ashamed, and may not be very happy to see us when the time comes.

What are you going to say when you stand before him? “Yeah, I know I tolerated evil and heresy, but what’s the big deal, since nobody can beat you Jesus!”

That is a copout.

The US will survive if it decides for the next 6 months to legalize rape. Eventually, we’ll go on.

Great idea…

I’m not sure what you’re getting at here, but I get the feeling that your name should be anticatholic rather than happycatholic. What’s disheartening to me is this website. I originally signed on thinking I would find discussion about the Church and faith by people who love her. Instead I find a lot of vitriole, and misunderstanding about the Church’s teachings. I know it’s a sign of the times we live in, but it is very sad to see that Catholics are so very deceived by the culture.

The Church WILL survive. We have the promise of Jesus on that, but this nation we live in won’t if it doesn’t change it’s ways. I am concerned about my children and grandchildren. The Church could very well be in for a great persecution – and soon.

Blessings,
Ruth

What is anti-Catholic about what I wrote, I am curious? Either way, I’m not gonna change my screen name 🙂

I read your other posts, and we agree, esp. about the lukewarm part. Perhaps my point wasn’t clear, but THAT was my point. We can’t just lay down!

Of course The Church will survive, that is a guarantee.

Does that imply we are to lay down and let it be attacked because we know this? Why bother doing anything moral? The Church will survive, right? This breeds complacency, and relativism. Bad stuff for Catholics. That’s what Satan wants; to treat heresy as harmless fun.

That is my point, and I don’t think there is anything anti-Catholic about that.

IMO, supporting heresy like the Davinci tripe is anti-Catholic. I don’t see any vitriol is defending the Church; no one called any one else names. Perhaps is some poeple took heresy like the Davinci Code more seriously, “vitriol” wouldn’t be needed.

And to clarify, in case I was confusing, the reason I put disheartening is because it seems to be being used as a cop out by people for their inaction in doing the right thing. The “cop out” is disheartening; not the notion itself. It, in and of itself, is fantastic; our beloved Church isn’t going anywhere.

I apologize for misunderstanding you. I see now what you mean by disheartening. The part about legallizing rape threw me for a loop. I didn’t understand what you meant – I thought you were attacking our priests by referring to the recent scandals, and jumped to a conclusion. I see now what you were getting at, but it did take me a couple of readings. I admit I’ve been worked up over the things I’ve been reading on this board. As you correctly point out, it is wrong to be complacent about the evil in our culture, on the assumption that the Church will survive. What those who make this assertion don’t think about is that they may end up being martyred and our nation may be wiped off the map because of our sins. We truly need to be steeped in the Bible.

Catholics need to read the OT and see what happened to Israel. We are the New Israel. The Church will survive, but the members of the Church could very well suffer severe persecution. We don’t know our own history. The Church has suffered severely all through the 2,000 year history, and Israel before her suffered terribly.

They may not be ready to believe all this could happen because of a book and a movie, but this is feeding anti-Catholicism. The young think that if it isn’t happening tomorrow, then it’s not going to happen, but they need to realize that we’re talking history here, and it could take generations, as it already has, but if not stopped it will continue growing until it devours us.

And if nothing else, then we must realize that our chief fight is for souls, and to read that any Catholic would say that if someone loses his soul that it’s his own fault, and not feel any responsibility, is absolutely heresy. What if Jesus had thought that way? We’d all be headed for hell. We’re not on this earth to have a good time. We have a war to fight. Thank you for taking the time to clarify yourself to me, and again I apologize for my jumping to a wrong conclusion.

May you continue to be a Happy Catholic.

Blessings,
Ruth

No problem, I agree wholeheartedly with what you said.
