I really like that song.My son is hosting a Murder Mystery Party with the theme being the 80’s. I had to offer him some music that was popular at that time…and chuckled reminded of some of the absolutely uninspiring and waggish music of the 80’s. There may have been some quality music but it was few and far between.
I found humor in the TV commercial that revisited the hit from Europe, the apocalyptic, cold war fearing yet space traveling hope of the 80’s. But it certainly was catchy.

.
As a musician who played quite a bit of cover music (in the 80’s and 90’s), I found myself drawing material from the 50’s through 70’s most often. The 1980’s reasonably could be viewed as the hedonistic outcome of the cold war fear parents bequeathed their children. Yet, Eddie Van Halen really did revolutionize the guitar with his finger tapping. But the 80’s, even with the hair bands, plastic drum beat pop music, and anti-punk pop’y new wave band still has some talented musicians and memorable melodies (much of the lyrical content from rock/pop of the decade was dreadful).I really like that song.

I guess that it depends on what you’re looking for…As a musician who played quite a bit of cover music (in the 80’s and 90’s), I found myself drawing material from the 50’s through 70’s most often. Another tune I mentioned was from the Canadian Trio Triumph, Fight the good fight

Any other recommendations?
In retrospect, yes, it was pretty bad. Some of the best music came with some of the worst lyrics. (Motley Crue “Wild Side” and “Live Wire” come to mind. Two of my favorites at the time without giving any thought to the lyrics)My son is hosting a Murder Mystery Party with the theme being the 80’s. Heh Heh The Twisted Sister video that immediately came to my mind →I guess that it depends on what you’re looking for…
I’m trying to think of something that would work for your son’s party.
I personally think that a lot of the hair band music was just kind of “campy,” when you go back and listen to it.
It actually makes me laugh, and I can’t take it too seriously.
I was listening to Twisted Sister-We’re Not Gonna Take It
I like Autograph’s-Turn Up the Radio
I also like Starship’s-We Built This City

I was playing a lot of glam metal and it was very popular. There were good songs, no doubt, particularly some of the ballads that helped propel the genre’s popularity.
Here’s a few of the songs I remember playing from '88-'91
The Scorpions - “Passion Rules The Game” & “Rhythm Of Love”
Europe “Rock The Night” & “On The Loose”
Dokken “Alone Again”, “Burning like a flame”, “Its Not Love”
Great White “Rock Me”
Whitesnake “Gimme all your love”
Autograph “Turn up the radio”
Skid Row “I remember you”
White Lion “Wait”
Warrant “Heaven”
Femme Fatale “Falling in and out of love” & “Waiting for the big one”
Vixen - “Edge of a broken heart”
Janet Jackson “Black Cat”
Dokken - “It’s Not Love”

There are not many tracks (that charted) that I had never heard before during this decade but you found one! I took the time to listen to it. Nice. You are my melody - Change

I like Is This Love by Whitesnake. I like the guitar work in their music.
Ty. Good Feedback. I’ll have to dig out some LP’s for a few of those. Whitesnake had a few I liked since the guitarists were seasoned.
Absolutely. As a guitarist who played the song - the key of E minor is a favorite of many guitarists, the harmonics, the whammy bar expression and the melodic warm solo made the song fun to play.I like Is This Love by Whitesnake. I like the guitar work in their music.
It’s funny I liked the more raw songs (I thought that band sang authentically) Headknocker, Juke Box Hero, War with the world, Spellbinder - I did like the acoustic dreamy song Starrider and the dance rock hit Urgent.Editing to add: There are some nice mellow pieces by Foreigner, like Waiting for a Girl Like You.
Oh yes, I like Star Rider too, by Foreigner. I really like their debut album.Absolutely. As a guitarist who played the song - the key of E minor is a favorite of many guitarists, the harmonics, the whammy bar expression and the melodic warm solo made the song fun to play.

I do have eclectic taste from rock, pop (all decades), jazz, to classical.
I had a feeling you may be a musician.Oh yes, I like Star Rider too, by Foreigner. I really like their debut album.
I also have eclectic tastes in music, too. I like different genres.
I play the piano and my Dad was a musician.
He primarily played the clarinet, but not as a career. So, I grew up in household where the stereo was always being played, and I have a deep appreciation for music.

Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler may be too emotionally musical. Prince songs would work. Doves Cry played ‘at the right time’ could make people dance… to the point they would deny it the next day (if it wasn’t on facebook).I’d be leaning on Dire Straits with a side of Michael Jackson and Prince.
If you have to listen to the party music, setting up the playlist guarantees some enjoyment.
Michelle Shocked put out Short, Sharp, Shocked in the 80s-The album is excellent. Maybe a bit of Springsteen and some Bonnie Raitt?
It’s an 80’s theme (Murder Mystery Party). Yet the crowd tends to relate more to upbeat or power ballad type material. A Journey tune, some Stray Cats or the Clash - *** Rock the Casbah*** would fit the bill!Sorry, I didn’t know it was a dance party. How about some John Cougar Mellencamp with a side of The Pointer Sisters?
You might thow in a little punk with The Dead Kennedys.
Maybe a power ballad or two from Journey? Some Stray Cats? The Clash?
Dont’ forget “We got the Beat” and “Time After Time”.
