Let’s be clear: with someone you just met? And without any other drug?

Really?
Just met? Like, sex as a handshake? No. But a friend of a friend on a float trip or a guy I met at a party? Yeah. Again, this behavior is not exactly strange on college campuses. It’s not as all consuming as some on this thread make it seem, but it is there.

I can also understand that it doesn’t appeal to everyone for a number of reasons. But it’s not strange that it does appeal to some, especially when.they’re young.

Why are you shocked? It’s honestly quite common to see girls behaving like that nowadays. There are women who are, well, horny, and will have one night stands without thinking twice. No alcohol or drugs. It’s not just guys that behave that way

And no regrets with getting naked with someone you just met at a party?

Someone you shared body fluids with but wouldn’t share anything else confidential with?

No regrets about this the day after, the week after? At all? Ever?

True.

Not all women are shy blushing virgins with ultra delicate sensibilities who are sexually virtuous by default. I am definitely not one but I refuse to sleep around due to the risk which is unacceptably high for me.

We should shed this Victorian stereotype.

I think alcohol and drugs are involved in almost all of these hookups.

You do realize that there are countless websites filled with men and women looking for these exact types of encounters, right?

And no, I didn’t regret It because I didn’t really see anything to regret. Even if for some reason the next day I had realized that he wasn’t someone I ever wanted to look at again, I would have shrugged it off and moved on and just not done it again.

Sure do.

Not sure what your point is?

That they are doing something completely legit?

Okey dokey. Fair enough. 👍

"It is no coincidence that the top two prescribed drugs at our state university’s health center are anti-depressants and the birth-control pill. Our young women are showing up to a very different version of “college life” than that of the previous generation. One woman, while in her freshman year, went to her health center because she feared she had bronchitis. In perusing her “health history,” the physician said, “I see here that you are a virgin.” “Um, yes,” she responded, wondering what that fact might have to do with her persistent cough. “Would you like to be referred for counseling about that?” This student came to me to ask if I thought she should, in fact, consider her virginity—at the age of eighteen—a psychological issue. (I said no.)"What the hook-up culture has done to women.
“hook up” in the way it’s being used, destroys and has destroyed huge numbers of both men and women.

I wasn’t on the extreme end of the bell curve, but yes, I fooled around with several people in college. And yes, I enjoyed it. Most people did.

It’s a lot like drinking, it may not be the responsible choice, but it’s usually hard to argue against it being fun. That’s probably why both are so popular and especially among young people.

To say that partying in college is worse than being raped behind a dumpster is insane from every angle.
Interesting that you mention drinking. I grew up that drinking was something that you did with a meal. I was allowed to have a little bit of wine with dinner at a very early age. So I didn’t drink much in college, it wasn’t a new exciting experience and getting sloshed for me wasn’t fun at all. I remember a couple of times where I drank more than I should have. It felt not fun, it was a sleepy, sad, miserable feeling. Not a happy uninhibited feeling.

Even when i was not practicing Catholicism, and I didn’t think that premarital sex was a sin, I always linked sex with love. It was something you did for love. I couldn’t imagine being with someone who didn’t care for me.

And howz it working for them?

Someday that won’t be the case

Uh, no just no.

Self propagating nonsense. A physician would never offer to refer a patient to counselling for being a virgin. And to equate rape with “hook up culture”…I just can’t. This “article” is disgusting.
That isn’t what she did.

Society has steadily devalued sex and women until sex is just a casual routine and women are little more than sexual objects. And yet, society is somehow surprised and horrified when rape occurs. You can’t cheapen something and simultaneously demand that people respect it. You can’t turn people into sexual objects and expect that they be treated like something else.

You are correct that hook-up culture is not rape, in the same way that giving people a fast car and encouraging them to drive flat out towards a cliff (while reminding them not to go too far) is not actually killing them. But why would anyone be shocked when this leads to a whole lot of them driving off the edge? Some will stop in time. Some will think there is no cliff and that they can do what they want. Some will have no idea where the line is that they should not cross before braking. Now imagine that these people are all trying to do this while drunk, and you have an idea how hook-up culture looks when mixed with alcohol abuse, which is also encouraged by society.

Yep. Me too.

It’s a sublime, magnificent, profoundly beautiful act.

Heck, it’s the source of life. Literally.

To believe that it can be nothing more than a source for an orgasm is to, to use a metaphor, eat from a dumpster.

We have this set before us:

…but, sadly, some folks choose to eat like this:

Hi PR, the above pic you posted looks like the dessert portion of an Italian American wedding. 😃
😃

Yep. Pretty much any ethnic wedding looks like this.

Food is such a wonderful part of so many culture’s celebrations.

I love that some cultures welcome someone into their home with the question, “Have you eaten yet?”

Ha! My grandma always did that. So does my mom. On the rare occasion I have someone drop by my shoebox apartment, I open with the same.

Might be a rural thing.🤷
